Star of Love Is Blind Shaina Hurley disclosed that she received a cancer diagnosis
while three months pregnant. The television personality,34, who has
been married to Christos Lardakis for seven months and has a son named
Yiorgos, discovered she had stage 2 cervical cancer when the results of a
routine pap test revealed abnormalities. Against the advice of the doctors, Hurley
declined a treatment that would "probably" result in a miscarriage and
chemotherapy. Additionally, she resisted giving birth to her baby at 32
weeks and continued to wait until 37.5 weeks. 'I had no symptoms,' she declared.
However, a little while later, I received a call from the doctor
informing me that the findings of my pap smear were abnormal and that
I needed to schedule a colposcopy. Hurley remarked, "The problem is, I was pregnant,"
in response to the doctors' recommendation that she have a cold-knife conization, which involves
removing tissue from the cervix. It is the cervix that retains pregnancy. I would
probably lose the baby because I was only three months along. I just
couldn't take the chance at that time. Hurley's physicians suggested chemotherapy
after advising him to have a laparoscopic operation to make sure the cancer
had not spread to the lymph nodes. Hurley claimed that because she was symptomless and the illness had not spread,
she had denied this treatment. Hurley 'pushed it' to 37.5 weeks instead
of the planned 32-week delivery date, which the doctors had requested in
order to check for cancerous growth in the unborn child. Yiorgos was delivered via
cesarean section and he was healthy at birth. The celebrity claimed that because she
refused treatment, there had been "battles" between her and her husband. He would say
things like, "Shaina, I don't want to lose my wife," but he also wanted the baby. I
want you to raise the child here with me." After experiencing a miscarriage prior to her
son, she claimed that her "strong will and faith" took hold and that "nothing was going to stop
me" from carrying out a successful pregnancy. She had a mini-stroke (TIA) in February, two weeks after giving birth, which left
her hands numb and her face drooping. She recovered without any adverse
effects, but the cold knife conization attempt failed four weeks later because
the malignancy was "still in there." They tried again six weeks later, and after two
weeks she was informed that she was cancer-free. Hurley stated that although she will need to
attend for routine check-ups every three months, her current focus is on being a mother. She
intends to carry on with her family in the future. Shaina made an appearance
in the dating series' second season on the streaming platform,
which debuted in February 2022. Hurley's relationship with cast member Kyle
Abrams ended during her time on the show, and she later became engaged to him. Hurley left the show before subsequently
calling it quits on her engagement to Abrams. After dating for over a year, she tied the knot in July 2022 at a courthouse in
Chicago with her now-husband.
