[Music] n [Music] well Lads we are back we are here we know what the 53 man roster is for the Bears and finally we can look ahead to week one finally we're we can basically say the off season's over we can say it's now on week one onto what matters onto the regular season because really all those preseason games meant absolutely nothing anything you saw on Hard Knocks meant nothing we now get to look ahead to actual football the actual season and where this TEAM stands and look the last two days I think we're important just to see kind of what shape this roster is in and it's very interesting when we kind of compare it to what happened last year which we'll get into today before we get into that though and Tony how you guys doing doing good doing good what day is today Wednesday yeah it's just we're getting closer we're getting closer it's now now serious time where people cry and worry about the people ranked 50 at 51st 52nd and 53rd into roster and cry because their favorite guy like Brendan Bates who I was crying about yesterday isn't on the team and like like last year like the year before like the year out before that the likelihood of Brendan Bates being a superstar is quite low so I'm in good form Tony how are you getting on I'm good man I'm good as as you were saying thank [ __ ] the pre-season and the offseason and all that stuff has gone out the way we've got what a week and a bit now two weeks what is it a week on Sunday week on Sunday week on Sunday man um I'm I just wanted to get here like and I know you know you're right everyone's having a meltdown about oh is this guy gonna make it is that going to guy you know know the thing it matters we've got Caleb Williams as a quarterback that's the biggest thing that matters guys okay let's keep that in mind was worried about that coming to cut down there Tony [ __ ] to B had W Austin Reed too it was pure panic going through the listen big Brett riing had a cracking preseason man you never know you never you gotta you gotta feel sorry and on that actually you gotta feel sorry for all the players because it must be pretty stressful for players their families their friends they may have done everything in Camp and I'm not saying Brad riing they may have done everything in Camp No Matter What team they're in and their coaches told them to do something and they went and did it unfortunately it's just that's professional sport they're they're they're not going to get spots but it must be this must be a pretty tough day for for quite a lot because it's what 35 40% of each roster multiplied by the the the teams in the league not all of them are going to get spots and and that's that's quite tough for everybody you know that for kids they're all in there most of them are in there early to M 20 so it's it's not an easy time for Tom all it's the day it's the day where the most amount of players are moving around and I guess all the players that are moving right now just have to see it as kind of there's players currently that are getting on rosters every single year that were in the same position that were udfas or weren't high draft picks where were just on good teams that had their roster pretty settled and you you kind of have to wait and B your time until there's an injury because if there one thing that's a constant factor in the NFL is that injuries will always happen you'll always get a chance so they just have to be able to take it and that's where I think this is going to be very very interesting when we talk about the 53 like I don't want to talk too much about kind of the the Hard Knocks and stuff like that because I think people have kind of done all of that and loads of other podcasts and stuff and most Bears fans have probably seen it and stuff but as it pertains to the 53 man roster I think the one thing that I do feel bad about is I watched it this morning and seeing Ian wheeler on that and it kind of came across that he had a legitimate shot to get it and I don't know you guys may not have seen it yet but if you did it seems to me that he's someone that the coaches really wanted so I wonder if it if it came down to it would got and we'll talk about this where some of our opinions on but would guys like a veis Jones still be on this roster would a Travis Homer still be on this roster and that's where I think this becomes interesting so look let let's talk about the initial 53 because look this can change within the next 24 to 48 hours based on players that are going to come in because there's already 14 practice squad spots there could be somebody that gets hit off the practice squad because there's supposed to be three external signings coming in they've all been said that they're going to be on the practice squad but obviously I think two of those three when it was tweeted out by I think it's like Adam Sher and Tom pisero that the idea was that they would be activated for week one basic because of injuries The Long Snapper and that used to play for the Lions and then the defensive line in the play for the Patriots both of those when it was tweeted out was [Music] saying that obviously I think scales who's currently on the roster is g to go on probably season ending I and then there's going to be another one we heard today from ebra FL that Carrie blasing game who wasn't on the 53 is going to be on the 53 that's somebody else that's going to be gone so there will be a lot of changes but and I want to come to you first when you see that first 53 that came out were there any moves or you can talk about an individual or you can talk about a numbers on the position groups is there anything that kind of you were surprised about when it came out um there wasn't that much and if I am talking I'm talking about the end of the roster that I think when it comes to week one might actually be there so straight away Doug Ker's name popped up to me um I just thought that was strange um especially when it looks like we've got Ryan Bates seems to be fifth so my initial thought was I have crme with there because they're going to put Ryan bat on IR or something and and that would be the reason why they've got him there as kind of like a safety blank but then it seems that flu came out and said that everybody is pretty much fit to go so that kind of surprised me a little bit um and and Jacob Martin um just just purely because I know he's an IR but we haven't seen him at all so they really must like him um if to have him there and it just it just was was that but again what I loved about it was today that we didn't get any waivers which is a sign that the team is pretty happy with where we are going into week one because last year remember showed me right I think we had three or four and the year before we definitely had at least four um and it was just rotating doors who can we get to fill holes so so there's definitely an air of confidence going into this but yeah when I looked at the 53 that that was it that was the one that kind of the big one was Doug Kramer I won't take anybody else anyone else I won't go into five or six names but Doug krer is the one to stand out I just don't think he'll be there we one anyway Tony what about you was there I guess any specific or even I think for me when when I talk about it a little bit it'll be more of the numbers of the different positions where some I expected and some were came as a bit of a surprise yeah I mean firstly the Ian wheeler thing just as you mentioned I think he would have absolutely stuck on the roster H hadn't it been for the injury um maybe they wouldn't have kept uh veis Jones although veis Jones is down as as a wide receiver as opposed to a running back uh in some sort of attempt to to get an extra running back on on the roster but obviously he's going to have multiple uses so it'll be interesting to see how he develops I would say he's quite a surprise anyway though he's had a good preseason that as his standards go generally speaking we don't really see many great performances from him and I'm just amazed that all these years later of doing pretty much next to nothing he's still on the team you know like he's managing to find his self a place in the team and I think it's a testament to him obviously it's a testament to the fact that athleticism that speed that ability to to move is something that's covered really really highly um and that's what's keeping him around so you know fair play it' be great to see him actually develop into someone who really can contribute H at running back but it' be nice to see you know him be that wide receiver that that we that we wanted him to be when he was first taken um you know three years ago or whenever it was um other than that I mean the quarterback situation I kind of thought they might keep three um as opposed to as opposed to two um I know there's a sort of roundabout way that you can have like a third one now anyway but I was kind of surprised to see Brett ripping go um and the only the only reason behind that is just because of that sort of experience you know and having that experienced head in that room along with the coaches is always good for the younger guys you know because Tyson be's only in the second year um and the other two quarterbacks are both rookies so um in terms of the practice squad as well so I thought they would have kept a more experienced head in the room just for that reason can I ask you something Cony as as you are are Caleb Williams number one guy and I don't mean that smartly I'm just asking you does that not show a really good sign to Caleb You' been we You' been W yet no I did I'm actually dead serious I was trying to be nice Jesus Christ and no does that not does that not does that not does that not show a sign though that they're very happy with Kayla's maturity and where he's sitting in preseason that they don't have that comfort blanket of a experienced knowledgeable quarterback sitting in the room to held them that they're cable with either with either Caleb's development which that way or with tyon bent's development maybe that they see in tyon bent that not experienced but that that quarterback that makes that room nice and comfortable would you would you think that's what the ri and not getting brought into the practice s it looks like quite possibly you know quite possibly it might be that Brett rippen's going to have other opportunities somewhere else to go and be a backup as opposed to sitting in a ace Squad as well so that's certainly something to consider um it would be interest I think I think the kayb William things is see so much but really when you are when you are watching them even if it's been preseason even if it's interactions that you've seen on Hard Knocks or wherever else there is that confidence in that he's just sort of went in slaughtered right into being a leader right away and it and it it just seems like a very natural transition for him um so maybe that is a thing I also think though the fact that they've packed their coaches their offensive coaches rooms so much this season this offseason rather with a lot of guys that could be offensive coordinators but they're they're QB coaches instead and and things like that you know so I think they maybe just feel confident about everybody is in the room together as opposed to just the players um I just thought it was odd because usually you always find that a rookie got a really experienced head behind him um but you're right Tyson beon he was thrown in last year in his rookie year for for a few games there um and that that experience um is so valuable um that I think he's going to be able to kind of feed back to to to Caleb what to expect in different situations and I don't think Caleb you know and I'm toting the guy's horn here but I just don't feel like H Caleb Williams a guy that that maybe needs any sort of encouragement or you know oh it's the big stage and the bright lights I me the guys were on the big stage and the bright lights for for a long time you know he's he's already like a millionaire the these guys have got experience and exposure that previous quarterbacks we've had before haven't really had in the same way and combine that with the the far and above much better talent that we've ever had before and you've got a situation where maybe the coaches do feel good about where they are so and I think as well because and just to round off on this one surrounded them with experienced and very very talented wide receivers tight ends running backs all that type of thing you're cushioning the blow for that rookie as well um so maybe that's certainly contributed to the uh to the decision there I also think you you need to throw in the offensive coordinator as well I think Shane Walen so far looks like he's got experience of of managing quarterbacks um who who come through rookie scenarios are need to be kind of handheld a little bit I'm not saying Cale that way but at the end of the day he is a rookie and I think for me and sorry Kieran have jumped across you but for me what's impressed impressed me the most about Caleb was in the last game he he he was playing his first quarter was poor uh his first couple of series was poor now whether that's communication whether that's other players whatever it didn't there was stuff and stuff that was there that looked like little bit rookie rookie issues and then he comes out in the second quarter and he's simply Sensational H and Char was a sensational pass down to S so it didn't seem to get to him that it may have got to other rookie quarterbacks and that's going to happen during the season I think that that is a potential to be there that he's going to have Series where the play call is right the the the players right he just seees something different and he makes a mistake and that's part of it but but what again what really impressed me was that bounce back U and that confidence you talked about Tony I think that's that's really encouraging and that seems to be and I I'll ask you this Ken actually that seems to be right across the team and there seems to be this level of confidence and this level of of belief that I haven't seen in a Chicago Bears team preseason in a long time last year's last year's was more built out of Hope and built out of all this we're going to be good we're going to be good we're going to be good to talk themselves into that um off the field and on the field while this year this year does seem to be something a little bit different would you agree yeah I do think so I think there's a confidence there in terms of there's players that have been brought in that have have won before so you have guys like the Keenan Allen to have have in Brien obviously look Caleb Williams at a different level um but like there's multiple players that have come in that like last year doesn't matter to these guys like you you see it on Hard Knock like these guys they don't care what happened last year like do you really think DeAndre Swift cares about how the Bears lost to the Packers last year no he doesn't he's coming in here because he wants it they all these guys want to change it and that's what's good about it and ultimately that's why it is good when you realize that the quarterback that you had isn't the answer when you do change because it actually does reinvigorate the entire locker room because it it's kind of like a different team and when you bring in guys like go radun you bring in Keenan Allen you bring in like you'll even look at the offensive line like the whole depth on the offensive line is completely different to the players that were here last year like while there is some consistency with the starters like the rest of the roster is completely different so these guys don't care about what happened last year they just see what's in front of them most of the coaching staff is different like realistically like the guys that are pretty much here that were here from before matlu and the defensive back coaches and May and the linebacker coach everybody else is new so it is a it is a completely new roster and I think that's where there is this and I don't think there's going to be as much if if they make a mistake early on the season or Caleb has a bad game in the first month I don't think this team is just gonna get all nervous and complain like they seem like they have a Qui confidence in them they know what the job is to do and they have to go out and prove it and that's what I think it's good it's a refreshing feel for for this team and and that's what I like I guess the piggy back on what you were saying about kind of Brett riing and they didn't why they didn't keep him I think it's a couple things I think Tyson be just basically proved and in an obvious way he was the backup because he was just that much more talented than Brett ripping and then the question becomes does having Brett riing as a third string quarterback give us more than just having an Austin Reed on the practice squad developing that look let's say the best thing happens Kayla Williams is fantastic and Tyson Bean stuck keeps Rising let's say Tyson be maybe has to go in for one game because normally you see that happening and he wins that game the ideal scenario is that you have Austin Reed developing on the practice squad and then suddenly a team is desperate for a quarterback and they give you multiple picks for Tyson be before his contract is over that's probably the ideal scenario we've said this for years and years and years that's what the good teams used to do you'd have your starter but you'd also keep drafting quarterbacks because it's the best commodity you can have in football and that's what you kind of have to hope that the Bears are doing here that maybe and yeah Yan says it here in two to three years or maybe two years the be might be worth a fortune he might get you multiple like second third round picks or if he plays enough to where let's just say kayada Williams this year next year goes down for like three games or something and be it looks great well then there's going to be teams that are going to be trying to trade for him at the end of the year and that's the ideal scenario but like I just think at that position you can't afford not to just take the best guys and unfortunately with the way they changed the rule this year like last year there was that emergency quarterback rule if that was in place this year Brett ribbon's probably still here but the fact that it's not it just means they had a decision to make in terms of what I was surprised about just in in terms of the numbers I was surprised basically all the running backs got got kept including like bis Jones who they can say he's a wide receiver he's not a wide receiver because he played at running back right so that's one that surprised me the fact that they only had five wide receivers really that one that's a bit surprising um and then some of the guys that you lad have mentioned as well um but that's that's pretty much it um and I want to ask you about one thing that you kind of mentioned is the difference between um yeah I know I'm frozen I can I can see the little icon in the in the corner so don't worry about it I'll just stop I'll just stop the camera and it's just it's just my laptop being shitty until I get a new one um but essentially what I think is going to be is going to be interesting here is you mentioned the difference between this year and last year when it came to the waiver claims where the Bears I think they put in four waer claims or three or four waiver claims and then signed a veteran on the first like hour when it when it hit off and this year was none and the interesting thing is if you actually go back and think about it all of those waiver claims from last year got cut from The V so like khib Kareem was one of them there was the kick returner punt returner from San Francisco who didn't even make the roster this year he got released at the end of the year um I can't remember some of the other some of the other guys off hand but I just remember remember from when they were doing the cut a couple of them didn't make it this year again so like it just goes to show that really a lot of these guys that you do claim at this point of the Year unless it's for a specific role on the team they're not really contributing that much so it's a good sign when the Bears don't have to put in a claim like you look at you look at the teams that are putting in most of the claims it's teams that are really trying to improve their roster and if you're try if you need need to improve your roster drastically at this time of the year you're probably not in a good way like if you're a Carolina Panthers and signing [ __ ] five cornerbacks and trying to change an entire room 10 days before the season starts that's a bad sign and that's what I took away from from this mainly is that while there's probably some players that we can mention like the Doug Kramers of the world the Dominique Robinson's I've seen some of the comments have mentioned them obviously people wanted guys like ready Stewart to to make it but he's a rookie he didn't Blackwells being there for a long time cor special teamer they would have been playing the same position in terms of the backup the backup nickel so having ready Stewart there look obviously if a team is interested in him during the season I would like the Bears to activate him and try and not lose him because I do think there's a lot there but to a certain point I think it's kind of what we were talking about I think the numbers were probably right on most of the positions like I had it that the safe we' keep four safeties I had about six corners the linebackers I had five I didn't know who was going to make it between h no and michah Baskerville because Baskerville had been the one performing but no s's the draft pick but again Baskerville comes back and he's on the practice squad anyway so there's things like that I don't think we're going to have 10 defensive l when it comes to when everybody's healthy um I probably think we'll have nine offensive lineman um I think the W the tight ends are probably going to remain a three you might add another wide receiver to make that six you might subtract a running back here or there I don't think you're going to have five active running backs on a week by week basis so it's going to be an interesting one um I think I want to get your guys opinion though kind of that whole waiver period because I think that's a real sign that things are changing for the Bears yeah I think I think as well it goes back to what you said good teams kind of develop quarterbacks underneath quarterbacks good teams also don't need necessarily go and panic at the at the waiver deadline or I think what what's great about it for us is there it goes back to my feeling of calmness that the Bears seem to have and that that understanding of what they're doing it also must be a little bit strange when suddenly out of nowhere there's Four Lads Rock up and you haven't seen them at all and suddenly like you're seven eight days nine days out from the season starts and there's four or five Lads just turned up from different teams and you because you were starting to get a chemistry like I I noticed it even with the Hard Knock thing which I I find really interesting is the likes of Cole K and Austin Reed seem to have a real friendship going on which is great and it's lovely and don't get me wrong it's not like Cole K would been crying if Brett rien was brought back but that does mean something in in a lot of ways it does create that feeling that the guys on the practice squad should already have integrated into the squad and suddenly you've got seven or eight Lads on the practice squad that have have never been around preseason before suddenly having that situation coming in it just not that it changes a lot but it just it doesn't add to the whole dynamic so for me I was delighted to see it's 14 of our original guys in our 92 14 of them are there and then it's what two maybe three or whatever the number is to come from the outside I think that makes sense and even the two guys they're getting from the outside wide receiver and um defensive lineman defensive lineman looks like we needed it because Zach Pickins was probably injured from everyone everyone talking so again it does it does make sense as to what we're looking to do I just feel relaxed going into this I I don't feel like the drama that previously of there for example you had um Jordan love saying all mad stuff in an interview just recently I don't seem to care as much as I did before maybe it's because we're not playing Green Bay week one but there seems to be that level of relaxation and confidence now I will say this and I'll show this to you Tony how important is the Titans game so how important is winning that Titans game based on the fact that we play the Texans the week after away from home and you don't really want to start on a zero to two obviously but what's what's what's your take on how the level of importance for that Titans game is oh huge is is it's the it's well every every game is huge and the the next game is the most important game so but it's it's a must win you need to win it um and that should be the attitude going into every game regardless that is a must win they must go out there they've got the best opportunity apparently according to the statistics they've got the highest percentage chance of winning this game out of all the games in the regular season um so they need to go out there and need to win that game um they need to what what Lee says there in the in the chat they need to set the tone they need to put a marker down they need to carry the momentum they've had from preseason all the hype all the buzz the quarterback coming in who's the generational Talent the wide receivers that we've brought in who are all you know excellent excellent players the prospect there with romad duni being a number one receiver in the future as well the defense are top five and they're you know all these accolades have to be proven when it comes to the actual game so it's must win they have to go out there and say they don't if they do not win if they go out there and [ __ ] the bed then questions will be asked about the coaching the culture all that stuff regardless of all the things that have happened before regardless of Hard Knocks and I I've got a question for you guys about Hard Knocks I'll come back to that in a second um just uh just in the middle of this uh this rant here as well guys we've got about 750 people watching the show right now thanks very much first and foremost get your comments in either on YouTube or well actually come YouTube it's probably easier but if you're on Twitter or X you can do it there too um but yeah it's huge and that that's what has to happen um but I think I think going back to the the thing about the the the practice squad and the guys coming in though I don't think it matters as much this year and Kieran already said it you know we're not bringing in guys to be starters at this point we're bringing in prospects we're bringing in guys that might be something we don't really know we'll check it out and see how it goes you know stick them on the practice Squad um let them develop maybe people come in and try and take them f um you know that that's all this is we're not at this point going right okay what's happening in waivers we need to get X player here or whoever on this side of the the defense or whatever it is we're not having to do that right now and that's a tremendous situation to be in um and something that we haven't really had for a while now I know we'll go back to the Bears maybe still need a pass rusher um maybe they still do you know I I I still think the opposite Montes W there's still questions there but it has looked decent at times in preseason and hopefully that progresses there are still questions over whether the offensive Line's going to stick but to be fair to the starting offensive line when they've been out there they have looked very good as well so it'll be interesting to see how that goes but we're in a great situation where we're not having to rely on picking up a starter today in desperation we're picking up guys for the future in terms of uh Hard Knock I was going to ask you so I did watch it today uh and anybody who doesn't have access to hard knock you can go on YouTube search for it there some guy puts it up every week cracking guy means we don't have to pay for it Legend but anyway uh Hard Knocks now I just wanted to ask you guys a question about Hard Knocks because there's been a bit of like back and forth with people online over what they thought of hard knock this year versus previous editions of Hard Knocks some people found it a bit dull some people found it a boring personally last you know I was watching I was watching the episode from this week today and at times I'm just sitting there going I'm effectively just watching a highlight package of the game where a couple of we bits of odds and ends added into it like I just feel like there has hasn't been as an indepth production as it was before I don't think they're telling stories as well as they could do no I love the fact that it's the bears but see if it was any other team I'd have turned it off before now because I don't think it a hugely interest in hard knocks and I wanted to get your take on it and because I know that you you maybe think the opposite to that yeah I I don't I I'm not a massive Hard Knocks fan full stop like I can't I I didn't sit there and watch every single episode of the if it wasn't the Bears would I have watched Hard Knock maybe not I might have watched the highlights I might have watched that so I'll start with that right that's the first thing I'll say second of all is the fact that there's no stories is because that's a really good sign for the Chicago Bears because it means there isn't stories there or they've blocked the stories out now whatever whichever happens that's that's there like for me I found it interesting and entertaining to see certain situations so you can call him contr if you want I'm not saying you are but some people are around how Ryan Paul's handled the Ian wheeler situation I don't think that was contrived I think that was honest and realistic and I think that was a really nice thing to see I also like stories on players who aren't necessarily your Superstars and their their stories being told as well um I think the likes of of Calbert you're almost allowing those guys to hopefully get some contracts somewhere else using hard knock is almost as a as a way to grow their own brand themselves Tyson be is a good example of that as well so I think that's there have I been entertained by it yeah because it's the Bears and I'm getting to see stuff that Chicago Bears media never send out so that's kind of cool have I been what would I if it came out in a DVD for me to go and buy that's how old I am if it came out for me to go and buy would I would I buy it probably not Wills I I was going to it was in my head um I was gonna say something else completely VY um but the but the the other thing I say is will I care in week two that Hard Knox was boring if the Bears have won both games not in the SL wouldn't give our razzis and and for me people I I the response I I call her out Sarah Spain was the one who had the pop saying it was boring because I want to see their private lives I want to go behind that's the problem with the generation right now they want to see everyone's life they want to if I a player in the Chicago Bears and someone in hard knock said to me can I go and meet your son can I go and meet your wife can I go [ __ ] off no interest in you coming into my house thank you very much right so like I think it's I think it's completely fair for a player a team whatever they want to give out and if people don't like that that's that's fine that's cool that's their that's their choice if they find it born that's fine does it matter for me not exactly I think it's I think it's less about you know like getting into people's lives and when I say stories I just mean like you know they create a story like they follow a player throughout it or they follow a couple of players throughout it and the ups and downs that that player had I just feel like there wasn't any sort of consistency it was just sort of me I don't know um the production wasn't good in my opinion I don't I don't think it was great um and I think I think that kind of made it a bit boring to be honest with you and a bodis an rant absolutely um you need to you don't need to tune in on Wednesday or Thursday next week when he does his next one appar I'll beely H sorry I'll be completely honest I I I rarely watch hard kns I watch the one with the Miami Dolphins years ago and that was it or was it it was either the Miami Dolphins or the cult though it was one of those like one of the first seasons of it and then you kind of get to know that like what you see on hard KNX is not really the story like I think now that we have so many document Sports documentaries on Netflix and stuff like that that are just so much better done yeah that like I don't really care too much and you kind of get to the point of where we've seen all this stuff happen in front of us in terms of everything that happens in the offseason so honestly it doesn't really matter and look I think to a point of is it cool for probably kids and younger football fans that don't get to see much yeah maybe it it might even be good for kind of more casual football fans but I guess for a lot of us that are kind of living this thing where we we kind of we're talking about the team all the time we're engaging with content about the team we already know all this stuff so it doesn't so I don't think you're ever G to learn too much from it I think it's cool you get to see like some of the players personalities we get to see the story about Ian wheeler and you kind of get insights on certain coaches and stuff like that I like that part but other than that you don't learn too much from it I it's just it's just sort of watered down stuff I just feel it was very kind ofal words like can I ask can I ask you what were you looking for and that's again not being smart were you looking for a story I I'll give you an example were you looking at Ian wheeler and following Ian wheeler the whole four episodes and then seeing if he gets caught or not and then he gets cut does his ACL and then like everyone's crying and everyone's upset is that what you were looking for and again I'm not being smart I'm trying to work it out or were you looking for to follow Ryan Poes through the whole process of how he picked Caleb Williams and how he how he then because they weren't in the room and Justin Fields went for how he processed um that whole scenario what was it you were actually looking for that would have made you go yeah that was pretty cool yeah bit a bit of both of those things to be honest I mean you have to have multiple threads in a production that can't be just following one guy the I mean it have to be you know an episode that that concentrates on two particular stories that are ongoing well you know the general thing in the background you know like I I just think I just think I'm mean I don't want to see someone crying cuz they got cut but end of the day end of the day you want you want a more real view of what's going on I mean the fact that they I mean this Mak sound d right but the fact that they they didn't allow swearing like you know it just it just made it very not authentic you know I mean like you know it's just not and what else did they not tell you and what else was was cut out and it was almost like just watching an episode of 1920 whatever it's called you I mean like the YouTube thing that the beers do like it was just like a longer version of that you know like I don't know it was fine you know and reason I'm talking about it is because the Bears are on it usually I wouldn't I wouldn't bother talking about Hard Knocks um it's generally it's generally boring but this year in particular H was was especially dull um so anyway just my opinion on it that's it honestly the 19 sorry the 1920 football Drive is much better like they did like one or two epode they did one or two episodes during the summer that was actually like 20 minutes or 22 minutes and honestly they were more enjoyable than 40 something minutes or 50 minutes of yeah but you you've also got you've also got to remember when that was on so that was on during the draft and that was Onre and Joe the trade that the trade or the the free agency period so that was pretty cool I'd say if if you had Hard Knocks in that scenario it becomes maybe a little bit different but I I I just I yeah I I don't know I I get I get your point Tony I get but kieran's point is right as well around all these other amazing Sports documentaries that are out there and how well put together there is and the untold series on Netflix I'm I'm watching that that's absolutely class and there's loads of these different ways of doing it and telling stories or so everyone's expectation has gone up since drive to survive the Formula 1 one so again all these things have just added to it um and it it's it's got all monster I don't know how long it lasts as well um I think you may be coming to an end of something like that sry yeah too long it's like yeah I was G GNA say another show I'm not going to mention but uh yeah look it's it's going to be it's going to be interesting looking across what we have so are we into the W the waiver period are we into practice squad let's go into practice squad right first things first first things first on practice squad Tio made the practice squad so Tio I know you're listening to this not my Tio Canadian Tio you promised me you'd come on the show if you made the practice squad so Tio everyone on the show needs to send a message to Tio bedet that don't mind that he becomes famous because of Hard Knocks get himself onto the arish Bear show so he can talk to us about what it feels like to be a Canadian brewha do your business my friend get it sorted get your Canadian get your Canadian uh that's the word get them up yours prayer show anyway you can you can get the on and I'll contact I'll contact Scott Dy the chances of are probably related at some point along the way must be we'll get the two Lads on it'll be a great laugh I'll do I'll do k k oh K Kieran amaji I got it so Kieran amaj I'm Ono and Ton's on a daily we that's that is a show every that would be a show to watch that will be the show to watch yeah that'll be fun on on on the prati on the practice squad what's your what's your take on the Karen what's your what's your overall take on on the let's start with the two the three new guys that came in Scott Daly Sam Roberts and Samari T yeah can I say something before you start never heard of any of them okay I I haven't heard I I haven't heard of Long Snapper and I didn't know much about the defensive tackle from uh from the Pitts or not Pittsburgh Steelers from the Patriots but samori Tor I know limited about because I think he was coming out of the draft maybe two years ago and they thought that he wouldd be a good like seventh round pick because I think at that stage the Bears had like three seventh round picks and then he went to the Packers and I think he's had limited snaps with the Packers but again has a would be a decent role player like again he could easily be your six wide receiver and he would be fine he would come in for a player two and be good like when I saw that when I saw the players that they released I saw two of the wide receiver Grant the BOS and samori Tor and straight away I said those two guys are getting picked up by a different team um now samori D or sorry Grant de BOS got picked up I can't remember what team but actually got picked up on waivers um and then obviously samori Toro went to the Bears and on the practice squad I know people are saying online that they're not um it doesn't show from the Bears well yeah because they need to come in and pass a physical before they'll officially announce it I I don't know what they're going to do in terms of um fitting it in because right now they have 14 players they need to they can only take two more there's three guys there it might just be as simple as the Long Snapper gets put into the active roster and scales gets on season ending I and then the other two get onto the practice squad I think that's probably the likeliest scenario here yeah overall I think the practice squad is good I think the Bears got 99% of what they probably wanted I'd imagine that instead of Steven Carlson they were probably going to want to get Brendan Bates back but he got picked up by the Jets on waivers but I would say like if your players at the back end of your roster are getting picked up on waivers that's probably a good thing about what your front office is doing because it means that your players that weren't good enough for your team um another team is basically saying that we need them on here because remember to pick someone up on waivers they need to be on your active roster when they when it comes to week one so that's basically what the Jets are saying and I think it's it's either was it maybe four weeks or six weeks or something like that that they have to be on the active roster so they can't just be like pick them up put him on the active roster for week one and then shove them back on their practice squad doesn't work like that so again I think it's a good sign I think that's unfortunate for the Bears because it seemed like he was a guy they did want to have back but knew that he would have some they knew that he would have some interest I'd say they were hoping that the interest would be more of teams wanting him on their practice squad but look it happens the same thing happened with a couple of their draft picks last year that they kind of got away but it's not to be all end all losing a fourth your fourth tight end it's it's fine and yeah I'm glad that ready Stewart got back obviously Austin Austin um Austin Reed got back which is good seeing some of that um everybody else I think was pretty much expected the guys that you thought that got released that would come back did I like the fact that some of their offensive lineman that they cut are still back like a Jay keran who again just wasn't they didn't think he was going to make the roster but he's there that if somebody goes down you bring him back up he was he played quite a lot of snaps in preseason so I think overall they've done a pretty good job in building out that Ro that practice squad you always it's always a good sign that your practice squad is predominantly the player you had during the off season if it's not and you're signing loads of players from other teams there's a problem because it means that your team's not very good I expected the vast majority of the players I thought that the Bears would sign between three and four players they've signed free um because when you looked at it the dept was obviously good because they were killing teams in the pre-season which really the preseason games are about the depth of your roster it's not about your starters and the depth was clearly better than the teams that they were coming up against so overall I think it was pretty good um happy enough with it and really for me it's roll on to week one yeah I mean they've got they've got their starting Long Snapper in uh anyway out of the Acquisitions today so that's always it's always good to to fill that sort of Gap um but yeah the other two guys um you know they haven't really played a lot in the NFL over the last couple of years I think the wide receiver we we brought in today has has about 13 receptions over two years you I mean so there's there's not a lot there so again you're going on potential and upside and all that kind of stuff so um so yeah it'll be it'll be interesting to see what happens I still think I still think the beers have got a big move in them before the season starts I to that the one thing I was surprised about when I came here I'm kind of surprised they didn't go after a kick returner pun returner because we don't have a p returner on the roster who is it DeAndre Carter is he DeAndre Carter and radun are the two guys that have been doing it so DeAndre DeAndre Carter the last game let's not forget the ball rolled into his foot so that's that's what I'm saying like that's that's a position where look I wouldn't be surprised if they do go after um someone like I don't I know if he's been signed but the guy that used to be the Jags kick returner and punt returner agnu who was very very good probably one of the top guys in in the league was injured last year um towards the back end of the year but has passed all of his physicals and stuff and is healthy again and a free agent so maybe maybe it's someone like that that comes in it's the one area that I would be quite concerned with that there's not really an answer there and I don't trust any of our players to feel the punt or feel the kick right now so that's that's one of those I'm kind of worried about but we're kind of put it to the back bur forget the fact right that the Bears have just traded a pick for a pass rusher and a defensive tackle right where do you guys stand on this debate over are we ready to win now hypothetically speaking right you look at a guy like Micah Parsons right or or someone of that elk where you'd have to you have to do a khil ma type trade from 2018 for it to happen do you have that level of confidence at the moment that you go you know what I'm happy to do that because for me if you if if Ryan PS does that that's him all the chips are pushed in like if he doesn't do it he's got all these other picks to fall back on next year they can go right we're going to strengthen the team in this way that way Etc if he doesn't and he wants to go for it and that's like right this is it this is it this is a two threee window here where you need to win let let's talk about michah Parsons right so michah Parsons what what what would you and I'm dead serious you're looking at what first next year second next year first year after second year after is it that trade yeah two first okay his contract doesn't di that they need to extend them so if he doesn't have years and years left on that deal okay but you still you're not going to get him for a second round pick next year let's be honest it's going to cost the first first next year at least first and second okay let's say first and second second and third year after let's just be BL that and and khil Herbert let's just whatever right so let's let's say that's what you turn around to to Dallas and say right you get that you get him and then you have to pay him all the money so now you've got a two of our massively expensive players on on the edge and they're solidified but that's it and say what you want about the talent of what we've got we've got a su what looks like a superstar wide receiver as a rookie Jo that that's that's still there and it's still there in the back of the head and you've got for me a head coach that's not proven himself yet so we're we're throwing all the chips in based on that and that for me is the reason why I don't do it it's not because I don't think this team is ready to win now not that I don't think Mikael Parson's push us into that situation I just don't I think team is B+ right now and if I'm making that move that move is made for me in the trade deadline when it's like yeah we are what we think we are we're ready to win now we have we the head coach has done his job he's better than an said a has to swallow his words again um the quarterback is who we think he is and he's winning games for us yeah now we push all the chips in on Michel persons I'll give you a scenario where I would do it because I think right now it's not going to make any sense and you you kind of alluded to it there ant is if we get to the trade deadline and let's say Dak Prescott has gone down for the Dallas Cowboys and they can't make the playoffs and they're just way out and with Michael Parson he's a free agent next year which look we kind of all expect you'd probably just end up getting the franchise tag from from Dallas um if it gets to the trade deadline they want to move on and let's say the Bears are in first place in the division and the key area of concern is getting that other pass rusher and everything else looks good the price might not be what people are expecting it might not be like two first round picks two second round picks it might be like a first then a third or a first then a future second or something like that and in that scenario I would probably do it just because the age profile Works he's 25 years old I wouldn't be trading multiple picks for anyone though like if they come back and say oh it has to be two first round picks two second round pick I'm like n you're fine I'll find somebody else we have Mones well I'll find somebody that can play opposite him but if it comes to the trade deadline and you check in and Dallas are have a crappy season like like I said Dak Prescott gets a serious injury so they can't make the playoffs and they don't want to be paying Michel Parsons and they'd rather recoup some draft capital I guess the question would be like lat say got to the Trey deadline and the pricee was just a first round pick would you do it yeah based on the scenario you've just given yeah now I would yes now I would if it's the Bears are in contention if the Bears are in contention and all it's going to cost is next year's first round pick yeah Michael par Michael Parsons is a better player than any first round pick you would get next year right now especially if the pairs are winning now based off of that logic why not just give up the the first round picks now if he's better than then we're gonna get give up multiple thiss like this sounds like a quarterback conversation we had no but this is more than that though man you're you're not okay use your logic if the question is it's a first round if it's a first round next year that's it if it's just a first round next year for mik that's that's what you just said though so if it's it's a first yeah and you said using that logic why aren't we doing that like the first if it's Michael Parsons for a first- round pick next year take it all day long no matter what day it is if it's Michael Parson for a first second first second this year and next year there's too many variables for me right now to make that to make that call we're not that place to get that call yet that's just my opinion as been shown two firsts and a second would you do that so the second from the Panthers first next year and a first year after no i' do I'm more interested I'm more interested if we're if it's that I'm more I'm more interested in if I can get something back from Dallas on top of that I'm gonna just answer that in one in one way of saying it how are you fixing the offensive line next year if you give away all your draft picks there you go an de Ben make come on the show with bre enough here come on yeah yeah how how you going to how you going to fit no absolutely I mean there's there's there's there's concerns there for the for the offensive line absolutely but you know in terms of these types of players they only come along now and again you know you can you can pick up players in other ways to to fix your offensive line and we've already seen the offensive lines looked a lot better than we thought it was going to be we're also we're also we're also going sorry Tom R hopefully going to be picking in the 20s yeah so it's not like we're going to be back in the top 10 in offensive lineman so in that sense I I agree with you the just it's again Bears re recency bias like here's one for you was the M trade positive do you think the M the KH M trade now that it's done and dusted everything's been seen aside do you think it was a success no it set us back five years yeah but that's because the guys made the wrong decision with a quarterback again yeah because trabis sucked if trabis was great and you won a Super Bowl nobody gives a [ __ ] yeah but because he did because he didn't work out are are py hit a kick through the post yeah like like but I think my biggest concern look I think michah Parsons is probably the one of the top five Edge rushers in football the problem is look the draft picks are one thing but he's going to want to be paid like one of the best pass rushers in football and you've just paid bontz sweat in that regard I don't know if you're going to be able to pay two guys at that level like obviously right now you probably could because Caleb Williams is basically making peanuts and the same and the same thing for and the same thing for ramadon this is why I I would prefer if you were going to make this move I don't think you have to do it now because I don't think he's getting traded that if it got to the trade deadline that you can look and see okay well is radun our number two wide receiver and he's that we're probably not going to have to pay Keenan Allen at the end of the year and then what's our cap going to look like if we're able to just keep our main players and just filter in other guys will we be able to do it and can we get most of that guaranteed money off the books by the time we have to pay Caleb Williams that's what you have to be able to do for all these big time players that are currently on your roster that are getting paid their guaranteed money needs to be B most of it needs to be done by the time you have to pay Caleb Williams because you need to treat Caleb Williams as he's going to be a franchise quarterback we're going to have to pay him in four years time I know he has a fiveyear contract but you always pay about if someone's legit you end up giving them a their contract extension before that Fife option kicks in so I think that's going to be an interesting one um to see it because look if the Bears did end up getting Michael Parsons they would have to be one of the favorites in the NFC because the offense of players that are there if they can work together that's cool the defense was already fantastic in terms of the back end of the defense one of the biggest things was there wasn't enough pass rush along with Montes s if you were able to combine a Michel Parsons and a Montes but like there's not a better defense in in probably football and that's where that's where it's it's very very enticing but the problem for me is that we still will have quite a lot of work to do on the offensive line if you get rid of all your capital for next year what's that offensive line going to look like because it probably means you're not paying T Jenkins Nate Davis will probably be gone you don't really have a center you have your left tackle your right tackle if you give away your draft picks and then you pay marel Parsons how are you fixing the offensive line and that's going going to be the biggest question it's all going to be about the allocation of resources but if that's why I said if you can wait till the trade deadline and something might happen you're still gonna have to pay mik Parson's all that money even if you wait to The Dread yeah but you might not have to give you might not have to give away as many draft picks and I think that's where that's where it kind of comes in but look it's a f it's a fun conversation I think it'll be I think the be this is one thing I will say is I think when it comes to midseason of the trade I think the Bears do make a trade probably for an edge rusher if it if nobody else has stepped up at the time and I wouldn't be surprised if they dangle that Carolina Panther second round pick I I think that that's going to be a trade chip if they find a player that they really want like think about it Montes was a second round pick like was Chase clayo he does it p ps loves doing that trade line offers a second round pick he he's done it the last years he do it again I think well I don't think there's the desperation that was there last year or the year before that's unless they're in a contention to win the division yes but I think what's really important for Bears fans to realize is this isn't just about winning this year this is a long-term process now we're not in this situation of oh Jesus we have been so bad for so long and we we this is the year that we have to do it because our window is so short and the Packers will be back and look this is for me what's great about this team the way it's going at the moment and I still have Master question marks on the head coach but the way this is going right now is that it looks like this is something that we're growing into as a longer term Prospect and with the quarterback with the wide receiver with even some of the play pieces that they've got we've now got a left tackle who seems to be potentially could be solidified we'll have our right tackle that will be in year two of his rookie deal looks looked awesome last year one hand you've then got Montes sweat locked down you've Jaylen Johnson locked down you've our line back and core locked down and this team is going to grow together it's not just just about winning next year it's about next year and then not having to panic at that stage and go you know what we can we can get that a free agency we can get that in the draft ourselves it just I'm not saying you said it's not just but I get what you're saying man right but what's what's the point in turning up half CAU you know if if you if you can make a move to be the best that you can be why not do it let me ask you a question right we talk about the KH Max right can I answer that one can I can I answer that one first why would you can wait a second because you've been talking for too long and I want to talk for a second you ask me a question you won't let me answer Lo go on exactly um what was I saying you put me off my Straight like [ __ ] answer the question and I'll come back to you the question the question you asked is why why would you do why would why would you do that because the impact it'll have down the road Ro as clearon said about the offensive line having to get fixed if you spend all that money spend all that draft Capital spend spend any money that we have on a sensational defense means nothing if Kayla Williams is getting running for his life again right okay but let's go back to the 2018 trade for K Mack would you do all that again if kalea Williams was the quarterback instead of Mitch trabis keep it in mind as well that the offensive weapons that K Williams has instead of MIT risky are far above better than that team the offensive line isn't actually that much different and the defense is potentially going to be just as good you I mean like that was a window of opportunity and the and the the idea was right the move was correct to do that based off of you thinking that m triski is the guy the fact that M triski wasn't the guy means that you go back to the original point of that decision to take quarterback was wrong but if you get the quarterback right then that's the right decision to make is to bring in the one of the best if the the best pass rusher in the league um who you give up two first round picks [ __ ] lottery tickets man you can pick up two first rounders and next year and the year after they could be [ __ ] [ __ ] we could be picking in the late 20s as well so I mean what difference does it really make you I mean shoot your shot when you've got the opportunity that's what I see okay cool but but but take out Kevin Jenkins so you're paying you're paying now um two Edge rushers most nearly the most money we have in our our our Squad right now all the money is on the defensive side of the football we won't be able to hold on to Kean Allen okay cool we may not have kept on too many makers of romad D we won't be able to hold on to Kevin Jenkins right we won't be able to hold on to Nate Davis which isn't the L but we won't we most likely we be looking for a new Right Guard a new left guard right and we're in a situation Jenkins because because the money we'd have to pay T Jenkins after giving all that money to the defensive side of the football listen the the the the cap is a is a hoax there are ways to make it fit there are ways to make it work you know that as well as I do every team does it every all all the big successful teams do it they make it work they don't lose their best players you know that as well as I do they're not losing EV Jenkins if they don't want to for bills talk about Nate Davis I mean that's that's an argument to [ __ ] do it you know what I mean come on like the tackles you you're talk you're you know you're you're you're clutching the straws here man but I get I get your argument right to that extent but at the same time what's the point in going or you know what see this year let's just aim to to make the playoffs you know no this year let's aim if [ __ ] win the Super Bowl that's what it's all about there's nothing wrong with that there's nothing wrong with that and that's what team should be doing every single year if you've got the opportunity if you've got the resource and everything else to go along with to make moves and be the best team that you should be then do it because you know what it's a [ __ ] long off season and it's a [ __ ] short window as well that you have to do these things in so for me I would I would I'd make any why is it why is it a short window why does it have to be a short window in the NFL you basically have five years because your best opportunity to win the Super Bowl is before you have to pay your quarterback for $500 million So to that point I understand where Tony's coming from the only thing that kind of makes me kind of Itchy and Scratchy is the fact that like I like to do things opposite of what Ryan Pace used to do because you don't follow what he did to the bears but look I can I can understand that if it comes to it gets to a trade deadline you see a guy that okay it g be Michael parison it could be somebody else that if they were in free agency they would be your number one target like sweat was and you are going to pay a premium to make sure they get you because look if Montes sweat didn't get traded to the Bears or Atlanta he was probably just gonna get a franchise tag and you wouldn't have been able to get him so like if a similar situation comes up would I want the Bears to make that move if it can fit within their C absolutely I would because the whole point here is yes you want to win this year you want to try try and get to the playoffs you want to try and win the Super Bowl every single year that's fine but if you're bringing in a player that is not just for that onee rental like a montz sweat who was what 25 26 years of age you've signed him true as the year 29 season or year 30 season like those are the types of moves I can get behind because you're not just saying oh we're just signing him for two years but we're spending this draft Capital like if you're signing michah Parsons you're going to have to you're going to have to pay him a lot of money if it's a different Edge rusher it may be an offensive lineman that becomes available that you're like Caleb's getting hit too much we need to bring somebody in suddenly I don't know any sort of name like I know this name won it won't be him but like alarmy tunel type becomes available and you're like well we we were gonna upgrade the offensive line this off season this is one way to guarantee it let's give them a second round pick I'm fine with that I think from this point to the end of next year's offseason all the building blocks need to be in the offensive line and defensive line if it means that the Trey deadline trying to bring a pass rusher in or a another nose tackle or a guard or a left tackle that's fine and I don't I I don't really care whatever makes this team better but where I do agree with you Tony is the fact is you do have a short window because if Caleb is good and if he is a legitimate franchise quarterback in four years time you're probably gonna be giving him a $500 million contract and that's where you have to be careful because then you don't get to keep players did I did I miss did I miss something here first of all Tony says the cap doesn't exist so you can keep everybody the the did I miss P Patrick Mahomes didn't get did he get paid I must have missed that part and he went in one Super Bowls after getting paid like the window is there for as long as you create as long as you create as long as you create and if we had that belie in our quarterback and if we have to believe that the quarterback is generational and is that level and that's the that's the belief why are we so sh ourselves though it has to be next year like I'm not saying it doesn't have to be next year hold on I'm not saying it doesn't have to be next year I'm saying yeah brilliant it could be next year that's fantastic but why are we putting all our eggs into next year when we could have a scenario this could be if we do this right this could be a four five six after Caleb signs his new deal kind of situation why why would we do that the Chiefs did both so like when it was on Patrick Mahomes rookie contract they made big moves because they knew they had an opportunity to win because his contract was was cheap and look I think where the Chiefs kind of got lucky was they get obviously they gave him what $300 million which was which was it seemed crazy at the time but then the two or three years after that the cap grew exponentially and now quarterbacks like you're seeing like the AL of Jordan love and all them are making more money than Patrick Mahomes it it it doesn't it doesn't matter like at the end of the day you need to the reason why I say that you do it like Patrick Mahomes the reason why there's players that take a a smaller deal to go to the Chiefs because they know he can help you win a Super Bowl it was the same reason why players went to to New England to play with Brady because they knew he could win Pat mams within his rookie contract I think it was in his rookie contract he had what two Super Bowls throughout his rookie contract and it's had another one or two since so like you I think for the Bears they have to put themselves in a position that if Caleb Williams is a franchise quarterback and is generational look we don't know this yet but if he is you do have to strike while the iron Hut when you do have that rookie deal because it's easier to win when that's the case because if your quarterback is a top 10 quarterback in the league like let's talk like with CJ Stout if he becomes if he continues his the Houston Texans are going to go all in as well because they know that if you have a player that's getting paid as like the 20 to 30th ranked quarterback but they're actually like in the top five in the league it means you can allocate resources out where and it means you could sign a big contract to someone but you could put all the guaranteed money at the beginning to where when it comes to when you have to pay your quarterback you can still keep those players because they still have a contract with you but all their big guaranteed money or your frontload if there's ways to do this so it it's in all all I can say to kind of round off this conversation it's good to be on this side of having this conversation versus the teams that are trying to find said quarterback at least there is a little bit of there's optimism with the Bears future or I guess present and future and that's it's a good place to be in because we've been doing this podcast now four years now and it hasn't seem like we've always been talking about when is it going to happen so hopefully this is the start of something good week one against the Titans is going to be very very interesting we'll be doing our preview for that next week we'll have one of them um one of the Titans um fans on here
