last weekend the Florida Gators absolutely got stunned by the University of Miami in the Hurricanes gr Merz didn't play his best brand of football DJ lague actually came into the game and led the offense to what seemed to be their most successful drive and what I wanted to do in this video because we got some breaking news right DJ lague is most likely going to be their starter for their next game with graham Merz I believe in the concussion protocol I want to show you exactly what we saw from DJ lague but more importantly why I think he could actually lead this offense a lot better than what they looked last week now obviously I think Graham Merz is their starting quarterback when he is fully healthy I think he's a good player and I think he'll continue to build chemistry and rapport with his teammates going forward but DJ lague is the future and we have to know that so let's break down DJ lagway let's look at some plays here that I really liked and before we jump in comment down below a record prediction Flo or for Florida but also should the head coach be fired yes or no let me know and with that being said let's dive into DJ lague ready to save the day all right here we go first play that I liked from DJ lagway we're going to see a little bit of a slant over the middle we're going to see a gold ball down the left side we have a Midfield closed deep safety which tells me that this is most likely a yes no read for DJ lagway he wants to decide who I'm throwing the ball to and it's going to go to this side of the field right we have a stacked box usually see this a ton uh when they want to stop the run game right so the fact that we have one deep safety this ball needs to be out early and it needs to be on target if this safety drops back this way you're probably going to see the slant if the safety drops back this way you could see this go ball down left sideline to the outside receiver so boom right we're going to get a little bit of a snap here we like this this matchup both actually matchups right so boom snaps we notice the safey going to stay a little bit stagnant here so now I like either or this linebacker is rotating to the right lagway one foot or one step drop need to see a little bit cleaner footwork here right this should be out now right get the football out boom beautiful throw great inside leverage by the wide receiver able to you know fight for the first down this is a good read here by the quarterback by DJ lagway yes no Reed he checked yes little bit better of a route there and man we love to see this the these are the things we love to see by a true freshman quarterback man sign me up all day every day it's a good ball it's good placement good read love to see it let's go all right here's another good Ball by DJ lagway we're going to see a little bit of a slant over the middle of the field here again we got a Middlefield close safety we have to be able to read this linebacker looks like he's in a robber but to me this is manto man coverage you see how the the DB is looking right at the wide receiver this tells me this is most likely man-to-man coverage didn't have any pre- motion so couldn't really tell maybe actually had a little bit here U you see that guy rotating over so manto man coverage um so you probably have man um someone manned up there maybe him lined up on the running back you got man there which leaves an open linebacker and an open safety so cover one robbers is probably what you're going to see here six-man scat protection running back's going to stay in the block um right away he's going to look at his main target so I do like the throw I thought he gets this out quick releases very very smooth as well watch this one more time here drops back one one foot one foot drop so again I love that right these are the things that really matter this footwork is amazing we want to get this football out early one step drop it's a little bit of a big step there but boom guess that football out quick good release leads him a little bit up the field so he doesn't get smacked however what I will say about this play you won't be able to make this play in the NFL the reason being is since you have a robber over the middle you also have a deep safety this guy's job is to read the quarterback's eyes once he looks this way in the NFL this guy will go over he'll rotate over and he'll either light up put the wide receiver in the hospital or he'll make a play on the football right so again once you see DJ lagway boom he shows all of his cards right away and again I don't expect the true freshman quarterback to come out here and be able to manipulate a defense but in real life or not in real life but in the NFL this boom this linebacker sees right away he's looking to the right there's only one option to the right I'm going to start rotating over however his linebacker is very very slow to rotate and um boom right could be a hospital ball could be a play on the football either way I thought it was a good ball thrown early good footwork good idea like I like the play overall all right real quickly guys before we jump back into the video do me a big favor this one's a motion by the running back to the outside we're going to see this linebacker kind of follow him kind of tells us that this is manto man coverage we're going to get a couple of interesting routes here um that just don't really make sense to me now I do believe their initial goal here was to just get in the way of these Defenders just in case it's it's Zone but since it's man doesn't really matter because this guy's only focus is to get to the running back so that kind of uh eliminates the left side of the field from being anything and we're going to see these routes just suck I don't know what they are here I don't know if someone messes up I mean if this guy like goes over the middle right if I know in uh College these wide receivers don't have the freedom to make their own decisions like that but in in the NFL this guy just goes reads his Zone goes over the middle and the quarterback will have the connection right here but let's talk about DJ lagway on this play right I don't know what these routes are terrible down at the bottom of your screen clamped up clamped up everything is not open okay so what do we notice that's good about DJ lagway on this play specifically here is the pocket awareness the pocket presence I like this as a true freshman you know a lot of guys don't really have this so boom drops back he's going to look left nothing he likes he's going to scan the field go through a full field progression a full field read basically look at all of his targets he's going to feel the edge pressure um from both sides he's going to step up in the pocket right beautiful keeps his eyes down the field but then once he notices that remember that guy rotate all the way to left the Middlefield is open boom let me use my speed and another thing is look at how look how he continues to look down the field even at this point in time he's like oh is anyone open is anyone open he's still trying to throw the ball I love that out of a freshman uses his legs great speed elusiveness boom makes a man miss Falls at the 5 yard line that is a great third and 12 Play Man again I'm bought in on DJ lagway I love the footwork as well can we watch this footwork guys so it looks like we got a three-step uh plant which or uh yeah no three-step hitch when you're when when you're in the shotgun one two three step back up in the pocket football should be coming out if someone's open right so one two three boom once that plant foot hits the ground step up in the pocket beautiful love it great footwork hey man he he looks polished he does look polished he's going to need to continue to grow as a player great great drive though and then finally they end up capping it off here with an easy little touchdown I will say it looks like a read option he has the chance the ability to keep or hold or uh you know keep or give the ball here in my opinion you see so many these guys coming to the right side of the field and your main read guy is right here right looks like number seven to me um it looks like he's even really close to that line you see how he's overc committing to the handouts of the quarterback if I'm DJ lagu on this play I'm probably keeping this ball but either way ends up really good for Florida breaks the tackle spins into the end zone for a touchdown in the future I think he should be able to keep this ball right we have this pre-ap motion this guy's going across the formation he's taking 19 with him so I don't really think he's too much of a threat as long as you can get boom right up there uh but this this Edge rusher the key read Defender looks to me like he commits the running back so I feel like you know in the future you probably keep this ball right I don't know maybe what do you guys think I think either way right they ended up getting a touchdown so does it really matter not really but I think the right play here would have been a keeper think he would have an easy walking touchdown uh but either way I liked what I saw from DJ lague and I'm excited to see how he does in his debut as a full-time starter I'm expecting him to do some good things I'm I'm expecting him to make some mistakes he's a true freshman right he's not going to be perfect but if we can just see a little bit of a of a splash a hint of what the future holds Florida could be in a really good spot which could help recruiting bringing in some wide receivers here oh DJ lagway just played a game as a true freshman and looked you know this good yeah maybe let me go there right so I think DJ lague has a big big um game to play I think he's going to play well and I I hope he can show some consistency or some flashes I know it's not going to be perfect but can't wait let me know what you guys think subscribe hit the like button and man
