Joe Esposito with the covered 19 situation that occurred a lot of people were afraid to go to the doctor because they had a little coughed I had a little scratchy throat they thought oh my gosh I don't want to test positive what if I test positive I got a quarantine myself so there was a big issue there for a long time where people stopped going to the doctors so what we're gonna talk about today is symptoms you shouldn't ignore so I'll put it right out there but hospital emergency room visits dropped dramatically hospitals are going broke because people use go to the emergency room a lot and of course they had to write a lot of those things off but they got paid for some of them and then people getting elective surgeries were cancelled so hospitals lost a fortune with the whole Cove in nineteen issue but patients were afraid to go anywhere number one they didn't want to go to the hospital because that's where sick people were and so they dealt with a lot of symptoms now in our offices were chiropractic pain management nutrition clinic and so patients would come in and want to have us evaluate them listen dr. Joe I want to know what I could do for my immune system I wonder what I can do to stay healthy I have neck pain back pain shoulder pain so we kept going we didn't close one day at all because we were essential business and we robbed collect clinics for essential businesses so we didn't close one day and the supplements of course were open 24 hours a day we ship every day and the supplement division did real well because people finally took a notice that they had to take care of themselves so I'm trying to look at a silver lining out of this thing and the silver lining is I believe that a lot of people are coming aware that we just can't rely on doctors that whenever I have something I just go to dr. doctors gonna take care of everything what can I do to take care of myself and that's what this whole shows about if you've listened to the show in the past every show is just jam-packed with information for things that you can do to take care of your but there are certain symptoms you shouldn't take care of you should seek professional help either out in some cases us some cases emerging room some people a medical doctor an allergist a cardiologist so we work together with all these different doctors and we have a mazing referral list of doctors that we go back and forth with but I want you to realize certain things you shouldn't ignore because you think you're gonna be tough and I see this a lot with patients usually men and men come in and say what doc Ivan deal with his pain for ten years I just toughed it out pain is a warning signs symptoms warning signs symptoms are telling you that there's something wrong had a patient in the other day and he wanted to found this thing on online and he was supposed to take it as plus the lowers blood pressure and I said first of all why would you run a lower your blood pressure without getting to the cause of the blood pressure high blood pressure is a symptom it's not the problem it's the symptom so if you just lower the blood pressure and a lot of people do with medications and I'm not against medications but if you just lower the blood pressure it doesn't get to why you have the high blood pressure so he was hoping at this magical thing he saw online was gonna solve all his problems then I told that would in fact it was really junk it was really cheap supplements and I would recommended not to take it that could be dangerous so I want you to understand there are certain things you shouldn't ignore and certain things again but let's talk about that today sometimes it's hard to tell when a symptom is benign and when it's something you got him take care of like a call for example is it just a little cough did you swallow wrong I was a doing one of my radio shows the other day a couple of weeks ago actually and I took a sip of tea and I went down the wrong pipe and I was trying not to cough on the air because if you call off all of a sudden oh my gosh you're infecting everyone else it was was I swallowed my tea wrong so when do you know it's really just a simple coffee why don't you spreading diseases when is it bronchitis when is it something more important than that your body is always telling you what's going on minute to minute second a second actually it sends all kind of messages to you with all various situations and sensations if you're hot you're cold and you interpret these things when you're hungry you you eat when you're cold you get a blanket but with other symptoms sometimes it's not that clear some people just ignore every symptom and I like said I get that a lot with pain and especially men they're gonna tough it out my rule and this is pain and as a pain specialist I'm a board-certified in pain management and chiropractic and orthopedics and nutrition and when my rule on pain is this if the pain lasts for more than two or three days you need to come see us now if I'm out in my backyard and I'm working on my garden and I you know hurt myself I'm pull a muscle or something it's probably not that big a deal I just over stretch you might go to a gym maybe you ran too much and you should have you maybe you lifted a kid up pain lasting for one or two days not that big a deal after around 2 or 3 days it's more of a serious issue now you when you have pain and I would recommend put ice not heat because heats gonna increase the circulation which is gonna increase the inflammation which can actually make the problem worse so ice not heat 20 minutes on 20 minutes off that's the best initial treatment now if the pain is excruciating we have patients like this all the time come in our offices many times even brought in by ambulance they're in screaming pain and then you got to get treated right away don't try to wake that out but if it's manageable pain you can give it a day or two and but past that don't because you can have manageable pain for years and every day that goes by the problems getting worse and worse and usually what happens is with pain the bones are out of place pinching and nerves when a bone moves out of place any one of the 206 bones can move out of place you pinched a nerve and it hurts so one of the problems is of course is pain however if bones are out of alignment any bone in the body it's gonna rub up against the bones above and below it and wear out and that's called osteoarthritis osteoarthritis is mechanical it means bones are out of place rubbing up against each other rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease we've done shows on autoimmunity if you go to Joe calm you can listen to shows we've done on autoimmune just type in autoimmunity or immunity into the search bar and hit enter and you could listen to shows on that but if you have a bone out of place whether it's rheumatoid are Co pinching nerves it's always gonna wear out and when it wears out it's gonna start to compress the nerves not a good situation osteoarthritis in many cases is preventable if you get to it earlier enough so that's what I'm saying with pain don't ignore the pain pain is telling you that there's something wrong come see us let us do an analysis on other symptoms people come to us all and what I did is I kind of made a list of things that people come to us with all the time and they've said well I just ignored it they're always cold you know you always cold regardless of temperature outside there could be something seriously wrong from the inside of your body under active thyroid can be blamed for inability to warm up so if you have an underactive thyroid we might start gaining weight we might be cold all the time other causes could be hormonal imbalance also calcium deficiency account calorie deficiency I'm sorry if you're not eating enough food you may not have enough energy when I was going to school is called calories now it's called energy I don't like that term because energy sounds positive people say well I had a high energy food well it's really a high calorie food now so be careful with that terminology you might say high energy food I want to eat more high energy foods well sugar ice cream breads donuts butter those we considered high energy foods just because they're high in calories so if you're not eating enough food that can be an issue now in our office we can do a thyroid test for you if you want to your thyroid test you can call the office and by the way if you want to reach us you go to website dr. Joe calm dr jo e-comm you can call us you can send this questions through the website we're more than happy to answer them for you but one of the many lab tests we do in our office is a thyroid test we can test the thyroid if it's high if it's low and then we give you advice on how to hopefully manage that another big issue I get I've been in practice a long time now everybody seems to have digestive problems nobody talks about it everybody seems to have it though so one of the things patients come in with all day every day dr. Joe I got acid reflux I got heartburn I got bloating so if you have bloating it could be a couple of different things one of them is you ate too much salt and so you feel bloated from water buildup but if it's getting in the gut you start getting pain in the stomach area that's usually a sign that you're not digesting your food properly and if you're not digesting your food properly we got to figure out why so one reason could be you ate too much I've done this before you've done this before you just need too much food and even if it's organically grown vegetables if you eat too much volume the stomach can't process it your stomach is only about the size of your fist and when you put food into your stomach it'll expand but I can only stretch so much so it whether you're shoving steak and potatoes down there you're shoving salad down there your stomach can only explain - so so big and if it's stuffed it can't digest the food properly because the way the stomach digests food is like this your stomach has something called peristalsis and what peristalsis says its way waves of contractions that go through that's how food is pushed through your stomach all the way down through your body is the the stomach starts contracting and then it goes down to the small intestine and these waves of contraction push the food along in your colon if this stomach is to stuff then we've all done this stupid isn't it we get so stuffed that the stomach can't create this peristaltic movement and so the food kind of sits there and rots and when the food rots it can give off gases and these gases are release that can cause a lot of the bloating so many times it's because we just eat too much so here's the secret with eating it takes 20 minutes to get the messages from your stomach to your brain your stomach releases leptin leptin goes into the blood goes into the hypothalamus in the brain and the hypothalamus says I'm full it takes 20 minutes to get the messages from your stomach to your brain if you're eating non-stop for 20 minutes you probably ate too much food and you don't feel fall I'm gonna keep eating gonna keep eating finally you stopped eating oh my gosh now I'm stuffed I get that we've all done it so the secret to eating to not eating too much is this have a little bit of food stop wait 20 minutes see how you feel if you're still hungry eat a little bit more that would be the ideal way to eat your food if you're one of these people I can't stop eating now if you're gonna sit down to a dinner and you're afraid you're gonna eat too much at dinner I want you to ruin your appetite and how do you ruin your appetite have a handful of nuts maybe two handfuls and nuts not more than that half avocado and what's gonna happen is in 20 minutes the leptin is gonna release in the stomach goes into the blood system goes in the hypothalamus hypothalamus says you're full and you're gonna eat a lot less food one of the tricks I teach when I do my weight loss seminars is I want you to ruin your appetite every meal because if you're like me you want to eat meat meat meat and then I can move in Thanksgiving is the perfect example the worst thing you could do is put too much food in her body and then mix the foods like for example if you eat a high-protein food let's say meat of course I don't eat meat buy beans or nuts or seeds those high protein foods take a little longer to break down in your stomach and then pass into your small intestine so a piece of steak might take six hours to get from your stomach into your small intestine cantaloupe might take 20 minutes so if you're gonna eat the traditional buffet meal which is one of the worse things we can do for our bodies and you're gonna eat meat you need potatoes carbohydrates and fats carbohydrates and proteins and then add fats to it then a dessert with sugar on top of it the body has a real tough time digesting any of that and so the food will sit in the stomach for too long and it'll rot and when it rots it gives off the gases and there's your bloating so if you have bloating it's a symptom it's telling you something's wrong couple of tricks you can do of course eat less number two is take dr. Joe's digestive enzymes it's a supplement I take it whenever I eat a cooked meal so I'm vegan I don't need any animal products but if I'm eating artichokes and a vegan lasagna or whatever it is I'll take a digestive enzymes if I'm eating something raw like before the show that I had a big salad no need for that just of enzymes because the raw food has enzymes in it helps digest the food it's really just that simple it's not that hard to figure this out folks and if you continue having to blow - even though you're following the guidelines on what to eat the chances are very good that your stomach might be pushed up into your diaphragm if the stomach pushes up into the diaphragm you have trouble digesting your food the stomach can't do peristalsis properly and so the protein sits in your stomach for too long where putrefies giving off gases again then the protein passes into the small intestine partially digested where further purification occurs and that's more gas and bloating so if you have acid reflux heartburn burping gas bloating that's usually not always but usually an easy fix and you might want to come see us because all my doctors are trained by me to adjust not only the spine and all the joints in the body 206 bones but also to adjust the organs and specifically the stomach because we can take the stomach and pull it down away from the diaphragm people want to name their kids after you and you fix their stomach now I have this problem too and my stomach acts up I have to grab my doctors to fix my stomach and I'm just spoiled now I know what it is I ate too much I was under stress I'm sorry to burp a little bit and so my doctors are pull my stomach down and I'm great one of the symptoms I have my stomach acts up is that I can't digest my food and I'm hungry all the time so if you're like me and you just keep eating and eating knowing you've eaten way too much food but your stomach's your brain is still saying I'm still hungry what else can I eat you may have to get the stomach fixed the danger of the bloating is that the acid in the stomach may be coming up into the esophagus and can irritate the esophagus so you might have hoarse throat coughing a lot acid can go up into the sinuses sinus problems ultimately you can lead to things like esophageal cancer so it's not a game if you have acid reflux or heartburn burping gas bloating and it just it happens more than just because you ate a bad meal you probably want to come see us and get that thing checked cause you want to fix it before spirals out of control and that's what talking about today symptoms that you might have that you need to not ignore and one of them of course is the acid reflux oh and if you want more information folks if you go to our website dr. Jo it's a rhetorical question I don't know why you didn't do it sooner but it's pretty amazing when you start taking at least a super beans the essential source digestive enzymes we're talking about for this symptom to help digest the food it's pretty easy stuff once you start taking control of your own health and we don't know what the future of healthcare is and I've been talking about this for years and every time I talk about it something changes I remember insurance companies used to do this crazy thing they used to pay your bills I know it's insane to think it but they actually paid you go to the doctor and insurance company write a check to the doctor or to you and you would pay your copay and it was done beautiful I had a laugh the other day I got a letter from one of the Medicare companies and they said we're gonna be so wonderful because we care about you in health care crisis time we're gonna waive your deductibles and your co-pays so you can go to the doctor and the insurance company's gonna cover everything you know what they just said that means you the patient is not paying the doctor to copay deductible the insurance company nope no skin off their teeth nothing the doctor is gonna get paid less because you're not gonna pay him your copay but the insurance covers making it look like they're so wonderful if they're gonna waive their deductibles and their co-pays so it's very the health care insurance is very deceptive and many times you don't get what you need and of course you've all probably experienced something with the insurance company said we're not gonna cover it what do you do about it nothing not gonna cover it so then you're kind of stopped because you signed this crazy contract so you need to take control of your own health is where I'm going with this you need to take responsibility for your own health because I don't see it getting better any time soon I just see a continually getting worse and worse and worse I've been doing this for 37 years it's just gotten worse and worse and worse and worse and every time we think it can't get any worse BAM it gets worse in you the page and suffers the most and patients sometimes get mad at the doctors well I have insurance why isn't it covering it you bought the insurance policy we didn't so you need to take control of your own health and that's why we're going over these symptoms that you don't want to ignore but things you can do to make sure the symptom isn't going to blow up out of control so stomach pain bloating very could be a very serious issue but many times easy to fix when you catch it early on if you have blood in your urine I get this question a lot of patients come in dr. I blood in my urine blood me urine if you have back pain especially right above your belt area it could be a kidney stone and if you've ever seen somebody pass a kidney stone it ain't fun my friend Larry I remember came into the office one day and he'd been to his doctor a couple times and he was in severe pain had a little bit of a fever and I said we're gonna do something called the Murphy's punch and he said what's that and all you do is tap the kidney you punch the kidney basically very gently and boy he dropped to his knees I said you've got a kidney stone he went back to another doctor doctor said you do have a kidney stone and he passed the kidney stone and he was okay and it was one of the things that really solidified mine and Larry's friendship was it early on we first got to know each other he said I've been at two other doctors that they didn't see the kidney stone and you just had a punch me with gentle punch and we found it so blood in the urine could be a very serious issue and if you have kidney stones then we have to figure out why do you have kidney stones why is your body producing it some people of genetic predisposition to it are you need a lot of oxalates are you eating too much of an acid diet if you're eating an acid diet meat sugar dairy coffee soda artificial sweetener breads cookies cakes donuts pastas the body needs to neutralize those acids when they're in the body and nobody uses calcium as its primary neutralizing agent so your body will give up calcium to neutralize these acids and then it has to flush this acid calcium combination out of the system and how does it come out kidneys through the urine many times and that could be why you're forming those kidney stones we get patients that form kidney stones whether genetically or just have a bad diet we get them on an alkaline diet things like super greens an essential source which are great for alkalizing the system air dried sea salt Himalayan salt excellent it alkalizing the system has over 70 different minerals in it we get them on more plant-based diet they stop forming kidney stones in most cases so again these are serious issues if you have a kidney stone you don't wanna I don't think you want to do this on your own I've never had a kidney stone but I've seen people passed them and it's it you need medication you need medical attention real quickly because it's really painful um for to understand worse for men than women because men have a longer urethra so women the bladder urethra is very short for men it's a lot longer and so it has the stone has to tear through the urethra and so you think men are sissies well in this case we have a reason to be sissies so if you have a blood new urine it's a good idea to get that check to make sure it's not anything terrible if it could be men a bicycle a lot if you bicycle a lot that can put pressure on your prostate and that's another trigger men you go get your PSA tested and I think you should and the PSA is high if you're a cyclist just riding the bicycle can raise your PSA which is the thing we test in a blood to see if there's an issue with the prostate and so if you do ride you bicycle and your PSA is high tell your doctor a listen I'm a cyclist all right listen doctor will tell you then hopefully let's get you off the bike for a couple of weeks and then let's test the PSA again because you might have a false reading you might not really have high PSA just because you have cycling so just little things that's what this whole show is about is give you little little little tips there another issue that people come to us with is they bruise easily now if you can't remember the last time you got a bruise you're probably fine you don't read you know but if you keep finding contusions on your body you don't remember why we had this come from now every now and then you get one I was doing yard work the other day and I scratched my arm and I look down after I was done in the shower I would oh I scratched myself I didn't realize that no big deal of course I know where I scratched myself from but if you ended up a black and blues everywhere your arms your legs your abdomen it could be a sign that there's something wrong bruising could be a sign of weak blood vessels now it could be a sign of cancer as well I mean I'm not trying to you know there's a certain website on the Internet of course people always make fun of that no matter what you have you type it in that website and your cancer it doesn't matter what it is it's cancer but one issue could be you have weak blood vessels and that's what it usually is actually and one of the things we can do to build up the blood vessels is increase your bioflavonoids what the heck is a bio flavonoid bioflavonoids are found in plants and their nutrients that can act as antioxidants and help strengthen the blood vessel walls supergreens an essential source excellent sources of bioflavonoids but fruits and vegetables excellent sources of bioflavonoids as well so people call me all day every day I get emails and I get texts and texts but emails and messages on the website dr.
