Can Jared Goff Win the Lions a Super Bowl? | NFL Power Rankings 3

QB Jared gof had a really good year this past season as he was tied for ninth out of 35 in expected points added which if you don't know what that status I have a video that breaks it down it's awesome because it defines how well a quarterback offense and defense is playing so it's very versatile in addition to being really good in EPA gof was really solid in quarterback rating as well ranking 11th his Supporting Cast which is based on the PFF grades of his receivers pass blocking was ranked number three so in all he ranked as my 12th best quarterback which I think sounds about right he definitely put up a lot of great stats but he also had a ton of support along the way which we'll explore as we get deeper in the video so I think him at 12 makes sense because there are some Elite quarterbacks that do it with basically no support and G just had a lot of help along the way so it makes sense that he's a little bit lower at backup quarterback henden hooker is a solid option as he was drafted in the third last year to be a backup dude is like 37 years old so he should be ready day one so that is nice to have as a backup option should goof go down which you obviously don't want to see but is always a possibility in the NFL as we move to The Supporting Cast if you're enjoying this video make sure you give it a like and also subscribe as both make massive differences with that out of the way though the offensive line for Detroit OL was among the best in the league despite what ESPN's pass blocking and run blocking Ren rates suggest those stats had them as 13th in both areas which was not at all what I saw when I watched them play so I'm using pff's pass blocking and run blocking grades to rate them according to PFF Detroit was ninth in blocking grade and second and run blocking which is much closer to what I saw because they were dominant in the Run game and I think the bulk of that was just how good of pushes they would get from their offensive line particularly with pan Su and Frank ragau who are just absolute beast and probably the best player at their position I think that compared to last year they should be arguably even better though because Graham Glascow moves to the starting lineup for Jonah Jackson which could actually be an upgrade as glasgal has shown flashes of being an elite guard they also replace VI Tha with Kevin zeitler which is a pretty notable upgrade as zeitler is still one of the best guards in the league and Vai Tai is just about average their depth is good on the interior as well as coyote or well Sak Sika is a very solid run blocking guard and Giovani Manu was drafted in the fourth this year to be tackle Insurance since 2019 the average rookie fourth round tackle averages a 57 PFF grade which would be good for 65th out of 89 tackles so he should be solid as well which is great because obviously again you don't want to see injuries but you're going to have them more than likely throughout the year so it's great to be able to have somebody that can step in not really miss a beat and they have that across the board which is great because they are so so set at the offensive line that it'd be a shame if they would miss having one or two players throughout the year regarding their weapons they're Weapons super talented Aman ra St Brown the Sun God was fifth in yards per game and 42nd in yards per reception which perfectly encapsulates the type of player that he is because he is a true slot he plays I believe just over half of his snaps in the slot position which is generally conducive to being more of a short to intermediate threat than it is to be someone that goes deep down field just because there's not enough space to really get deep down field so he is somebody that's really going to grind out yards which is kind of anti- analytical as it's been shown that chunk plays are what really helps win teams offenses but St Brown is so good as a short area Target that it's more than fine that he is what he is somebody who has the chance to be a deep downfield winner is Jameson Williams who hasn't reached his Sky High potential yet but is a solid wide receiver three and could be a fringe wide receiver too he was 100th in yard per game and 25th and yards per reception so that again speaks to the type of player he is he is super fast so he can get deep downfield in a hurry but he's just not very reliable in his hands so far that he's not being trusted to win in the short T intermediate parts of the field as much for the third receiver khif Raymond he's sort of similar to Jameson Williams in that he's very athletic he was 102nd in yards per game and 31st in yards per reception so he kind of f feels the same void or feels the same role I should say as Jameson Williams and that's fine they can play nicely off each other with st Brown being their short to intermediate guy and Raymond and Williams being their deep downfield threats but they're going to need at least one of Williams or Raymond to step up to really be a potent offense this year another great help they have though is Sam lorta at tight end who had an awesome rookie year he was seventh in yards per game among tight ends and 14th in yards per reception among tight ends he is a massive hassle to bring down he does not like to go down easily whatsoever and he's also a really sharp route Runner which was kind of unexpected for me I didn't see that as much in college and he's a solid run blocker as well so he is just all around very good at running back David Montgomery had an awesome year as he was 12th out of 59 in PFF grade so they have a absolutely loaded weapons room and depthwise jir Gibbs was a really good rookie like lorta Gibbs is a top three backup running back as he was 19th in PFF grade they need their starters to stay healthy though aside from him because they have little option at wide receiver and tight end so if anybody goes down at those positions they're kind of going to be screwed and you would hate to see that moving to DBs their defense now at quarterback the lines are well set or at least they should be Carlton Davis III ranked 68th out of 127 Corners in PFF grade he is super physical and puts his 6'1 B into every wide receiver wearing them down he's also really solid against the run so he's a good allaround player he does lack some speed which is a common thing amongst these defensive backs for Detroit but they have a ton of talent which I think is more important than being athletically imposing another guy like Davis is terion Arnold who was drafted in the first and was my 10 best player in the draft Arnold has very high potential as he's a great athlete and is very physical against the pass and run so he is a little bit different than Davis in that he is a really solid athlete but he's not the absolute Elite tier of athlete I believe he ran like a 4540 which is just about average the average speaking of average the average first round rookie quarterback has a 56 PFF grade which would be good for 99 out of 127 Arnold is better than the average first round quarterback though so he might be better than that grade would suggest and I think he very well could be because he is a really really rather refined player and he's super physical he might have to dial back his physicality because the NFL doesn't allow for as much pushing and shoving as college football does but I think he'll figure that out and he'll be able to be I think a solid player in short time at nickel Ami Robertson is a good Corner in his own right he ranks 65th in PFF grade and would have been more highly ranked if he struggled less against the Run he can struggle against big slots as he's only 5'8 but overall he's a really solid player that can cover very nicely so I'll take him on my team any day at safety they are good and bad for their weakness Kirby Joseph was graded 83rd out of 95 safeties according to PFF he def defends the run very well but is shaky against the pass he played 230 or more snaps at Nickel in the box and at freeze safety so he can move around but he remains a liability against the pass wherever he is so he's sort of a chess piece and sort of not at the same time he's really weird in that sense because generally if you're moving a player around that speaks to them being versatile and good he's just kind of versatile he left out the good portion at strong safety though Brian Branch was ranked 14th out of 127 Corners he was their nickel Corner last year I think it'll be interesting to see what he does as strong safety I would like to see him in the Box a lot because he was so good at nickel and the difference between the box and nickel is a lot smaller than the difference between nickel and deep safety so I would like to see him in a similar role to what he was last year I understand him shifting to safety though because aiek Robertson is good enough to Warrant playing and Robertson is more of a nickel whereas branch is a sort of doit all type of defensive back branch has Proto typical height at 6 foot and he uses that to his Advantage as he's great against the run and makes good breaks on the ball as well so he's a very solid player in every way I think he is underrated at this point because people realized he had a really solid rookie year but he was actually a lead at the position and to be a rookie that's Elite at defensive back anywhere as a defensive back is is incredibly impressive especially at nickel where you're asked to do so much regarding their defensive back depth NS RAR Jr was drafted in the second to be a depth piece which is solid as second round rookie quarterbacks average a decent 60 PFF grade which would rank 86th out of 133 quarterbacks that played 20% or more of snaps additionally Emanuel Mosley can be very good if he's healthy too furthermore eetu meanu should certainly contest for a starting spot especially with Kirby Joseph who I think doesn't really deserve to be a starter as melon Wu ranked nine out of 95 safeties in PFF grade he's awesome athlete at 6'3 which would be nice to break up the sort of consistent not great athlete defensive back for Detroit additionally he covers supremely well and is exceptional against the run so I don't see why he isn't starting or isn't the clear-cut starter he played roughly as much as deep safety and in the Box showing his versatility even further so he's like Joseph but I think just a better version of him shifting to the front DL seven on the defensive line Detroit is very topheavy Aiden Hutchinson finished second out of 122 in Edge pressures he's also a really solid run Defender so he is truly Elite I think he was the clear-cut number one pick in his draft no offense to Trayvon Walker who is an athletic specimen but Hutchinson was a really solid athlete and a fantastic player as well so I would like to see Hutchinson get more respect than he currently is because he didn't really get respect as a prospect in the sense that he wasn't the number one pick I guess he did get respect he went number two so that's still really being thought of Highly but I think he should have been easily the number one pick and I don't think people regard him yet as being one of the top five Edge rushers when I think he very much so is somebody who's not top five but is also really good is Mark Davenport who ranked 27th out of 129 for Edge pressures two years ago when he was last healthy so he's super good also like Hutchinson he's a big Edge that is very good against the run so they have two edges that are capable of sliding to defensive tackle on pass rushing situations which is terrifying if they can be Unleashed like that Detroit strength though isn't just on the edge as Ali mcneel was 35th out of 142 in defensive interior pressures despite missing four games so he would have been even much higher than that if he didn't miss those games so that's tremendous to see he is a really underrated player as well because when we talk about Premier defensive tackles McNeil's name never gets brought up but he very much so is that he's a great pass rusher and as he becoming a theme he's very good against the Run also similarly DJ reader is also a great defensive tackle he was 35th in defensive interior pressures while also missing three games he's also great against the run as you could probably imagine so they have no issue at stopping the run and they should be menaces against the pass also as for their depth on the defensive line John Kaminsky is a really solid third defensive tackle get this he's a good run Defender too and he was 43rd in defensive interior pressures that's about all they have for dep though so they need to stay healthy if they want to be good at defensive line for our final positional group linebacker the LBs linebacker core for the Lions is solid Alex anzelone ranked 33rd out of 82 linebackers in PFF grade he he is above average as run Defender and pass rusher and also as a cover guy so he's very solid he has no deficiencies in his game but I wouldn't say he's great in any one aspect of the game so he's not necessarily going to wow you but overall he is a very solid player their other linebacker Derek Barnes was 59th in PFF grade he is solid as a run Defender but struggles with everything else so hopefully they have another linebacker in their ranks that can step up for Barnes and Jack Campbell who has tremendously High upside he was a first round pick which I didn't think was a great selection on their part but he is a good run Defender that struggled mightily in coverage so he could be something he just needs to refine his game some more they don't really have any depth Beyond him though so they're going to need to stay healthy because if they need to go with three linebackers on the field they're going to struggle to do that in general because two guys can't cover there or at least going into the season it appears two guys can't cover and in addition to that if anybody gets hurt that's not going to be ideal whatsoever in all Detroit is one of the absolute best teams in the league G is good enough to win a Super Bowl with a good team around him him and he definitely has the team his offensive line might be the best in the League this year it would be who I bet on and the receivers are no joke either as St Brown is an elite wide receiver one and lorta is a really good tight end on the rise as well I don't generally mention running backs because they just generally don't make that big of an impact but they have two different smers at the position defensively their quarterback should be good as they poured resources into the position and have gotten good talents there their safeties are up and down but you can live with that their defensive line is Elite among the top five in the league and their linebackers are solid is too so there's nothing to really poke holes in those are my thoughts be sure to let me know what yours are in the comment section and also be sure to like And subscribe for more content
