Hello. My name is Dr. Amit Khithani, I'm a surgical oncologist. and a Hepatobiliary pancreatic surgeon. I practice at HCA Florida Miami Dade
Surgical Specialists. I specialize in solid tumor surgery. My focus is GI surgery,
specifically Hepatobiliary surgery, which is surgery of the pancreas,
bile duct and the liver. We're able to now do them with minimal invasive techniques,
with using robotic surgery. We happen to be
one of the niche centers in Miami who are able to do hepatobiliary surgery
with minimally invasive techniques that significantly shortens the length
of stay, enhances their recovery. And if they need chemotherapy, we're able
to get them to chemotherapy faster. we're fortunate enough to to be able to serve the length
and breadth of of Dade County. We have offices at Mercy Hospital
and at Aventura Hospital. I also operate at Kendall
Kendall Hospital. were able to navigate
and see the patients and offer our services at all
the three sites. I love the patients.
Miami is difficult to navigate. So patients, if patients can’t come to me,
we go to the patients. So the key to the approach is empathy. First, we listen. We're all ears. Patients have a lot to tell us about their
their lives, about their cancers, how they got this,
how they did not expect to get this. once we empathize with the patient
and not just the patient with the family,
we know that we have the family as a unit. The fight to cancer
cannot be won by the patient itself. It's won by the whole team and the patient's family and friends
are as much of as important as a team A lot of times we'll reschedule
the patients for a second visit to involve the entire family and the discussion
is brought on very early to as to what the expectations
and the goals of treatment would be.
