hi my name is gia pergolini i'm a paralympic gold medalist and a world record holder in swimming i have stargardt's disease which prevents me from seeing in my central vision i have an amazing family that supported me all my life but when i was younger i did get bullied by the other kids most of them didn't want to be my friends and i remember one incident where a girl bumped into me and said ew and all her friends started laughing at me teachers tried to help and understand me but i didn't ask for a lot of help because i was also scared that the kids would bully me and make fun of me again it's not until i started paralympics i finally found my purpose in life i went to canada mexico city and berlin within a year at 13 years old and seeing all these other athletes overcoming adversity and challenges were super empowering for me i want everyone to know that everyone is fighting a battle within themselves whether it's big or small they are fighting a battle and a single word of encouragement hi or how are you can change a person's life and what i have learned in my 17 years is whether you're disabled abled black or white tall or short you can overcome anything and achieve your goals if someone pushes you down get right back up and prove them wrong let me be your living proof there's already so much negativity in the world your voice can make a difference go out there be kind and make a world a better place thank you [Music] you
