Mark let's just go ahead and start with one of the biggest plays in G your interception the toe tap from number two in the celebration they were all fantastic what happened on that play and what did you see that allowed you to make that play So look I'm this y'all not going to believe this but Wesley Johnson our coach coach West came to me before anything today before a special teams for defensive meeting he said he had a dream that I picked it on that exact play will with the post sure enough it happened I give all the credit to him at this point but what I saw in a moment was just you know post I carried it to my safety I knew that wheel was right there so I kind of stayed still and then went to go pick it knew I had to make a play in the fourth so big deal Wesley needs to share more dreams with you does he not every time I honestly at first I told him if that happens I can't talk to you no more like that's what I told him but uh I think I'm going to get to I'm we going to get together you know make sure he's dreaming the right thing so I can I can have a great game again it was one of a number of massive stops by the defense and some turnovers forced what allowed the defense to find such great success in keeping SMU out of the end zone I think we just found that Groove like we noticed they didn't score a touchdown they had plenty of opportunities too and I think we just hung our hat on that like it was hard for them to score the ball um you know our offense struggled a little bit but we'll we'll have their back every time you know and I know they will have ours we're not going to have a great game every time and we still could have played better today so um I think uh we just found our groove and we kind of stayed in that Rhythm Rhythm and that was what that was I know your defensive coordinator J Hill takes great pride in the talent that He had at Weber State and now that you're with them at BYU what is it about the Weber State guys transitioning to BYU that is allowing for such great uh success on the field I don't I I think it's just coach Hill you know he he got an eye for talent um you know he's a genius in the defensive scheme and uh it's a complex scheme so I think whoever can get it you know they usually succeed in it because it's a great defense so whoever can get it and uh know the plays and everything is is it becomes you play you become a playmaker pretty fast so that's it's a it's a big deal for coach Hill too being here I I can't thank them enough coach colani coach Hill it's a it's a big deal for me how would you explain your first road game as a BYU cougar against Power four competition I was just telling somebody seeing the F how many fans we had out here I I couldn't believe it but uh that's every home that's a home game for me you know at Weber State you know we didn't really have a lot of fans traveling uh I love Weber but it's just a different game different ball game up here so I treated this as a home game get the crowd jumping on third down and they did it so um that was good that was good to see what was discussed in the timeouts before your defense took the field for the Last Stand uh we just knew we had to make a play and that was our that was every time before we went on the field that's was our mentality we got to make a play you know our offense started off slow um actually started off hot but you know was kind of stagnant throughout the rest of the game we knew we had to make a play whether that was interceptions fumble recoveries which we had a you know we had both of those so um yeah we just had to pick each other up and that's I think we did a great job with that tonight for sure complimentary football is always something you seek and that's what Jake retof told me he said it didn't happen tonight but he said the defense didn't spiral what's what's the key to staying emotionally engaged when it is so easy to get discouraged and maybe start casting some blame and pointing some fingers at the other side it's easier said than done but we just got to stay together that's all that is um and I think we found oursel kind of getting distant from each other but um after halftime uh after the third quarter we knew the fourth quarter is going to be the biggest quarter we have to win this quarter and we cannot do that divided so I think we did a great job of coming together um at the end of the game and you know we got the job done okay I want to go back to your interception the celebration I thought was really smooth after you had the toe tap walk me through the mentality there honestly I couldn't think of nothing so I just stayed there cover the ball kind of you know kind of try to just keep it cool uh I didn't want no penalties in that moment either you know it it was a big it was a big moment in the game so honestly I just didn't have a celebration for you so I guess it ended up working out what's the celebration like in the locker room that you just walked out of it's it's fun in there right now coach Kanani just told us we have to dance and if we're not dancing we're not doing it right so after this interview I'm going to go in there and see what moves I got for him uh we'll see what's going on in there mark congratulations on a great win and a great defensive performance safe travels back to proo we'll see you soon thank you guys thank you guys go CP
