to begin the drive it's a first down I'd like to see them do a better job here the rest of the game Mike just disguising the coverage from the pre- snap look to the post Snap look and what I mean is when you have a quarterback at this level and what they see before the ball's in their hands is the exact same thing they see once they do get the ball everything is just so much easier for them to process change the look change the coverages move your safeties make the quarterback have to process with the ball in his hand here's a second and three fourth [Applause] [Music] coming throwing from tight end position really starts coming into play Not only do they have to line up with their hand on the ground in line but they can occasionally split out in the slot and man they're too fast for linebackers and a lot of times they're too big for defensive backs and that is incomplete he's on Robinson the intended receiver out of the back field and it's going to bring up fourth down remember what they told us Mike leading up to this game they said it is so critical for us to find success especially on third down we want to maintain possession extend these drives well the first trck comes up and they fail through the air and we're going to have to regroup and be able to have better success throughout the remainder of this game and no return forthcoming it's a Touchback and will come the ability of this tight end to not only find the open space in the defense but then after the catch to turn into a runner that is very rare at the tight end position we're seeing it more and more often though over the last he puts it up and it's caught Sky Mo touchdown KC oh the teamwork was just ideal there Greg we don't see practice all week but we see it pay off in the game and when you have a wide receiver mic that can operate near the sideline it just increases the amount of space that quarterback has to work with he knows that he can put that ball maybe a little bit further away from the defender knowing he's got the guy on the other end to not only secure the catch but to keep his feet in bounds for a [Applause] touchdown so now it's bucker following the touchdown to send this one away on the return it's Williams and he'll be brought down right around the 25 yd line the Falcons offense ready to take over for their second possession they're staring at a two touchdown deficit 14 nothing the score as the offense tries to regroup and get going with first and 10 pits is the man in motion on first down cousins short throw taken by Pitts defense does a nice job here initially using Zone coverage to take away the middle of the field that's the most valuable real estate in football quarterback gets off his first read sees some openings to the sideline and him and his receiver are able to connect second down pu and that's going to be incomplete coverage was good that time the contact jarring the ball loose and forcing third down they've been a little up and down in this first half I mean they have less than 80 yards of total offense and halim Loom so miss throws like that those are missed opportunities they've got to hit the plays when they have them they want to have a chance to leave here with win working out of the gun it's cousins and on third down that ball incomplete Creek London was the intended receiver there and that's going to lead to a fourth down so the hope is your one third down conversion from really jump starting the possession that ultimately leads in points but after that third down incompletion kind of throws wrench into those plans and he'll get a few yards on this return up past the 15 yd line the Chiefs offense ready to see what they can do their lead sits at 14 nothing here in this second quarter looking to run away with this one before halftime they'll come up here first and 10 out of the gun here's moms to the left side into the hands of Mo and he'll be taken down just shy of the 30 that's his third catch of this first half and good enough for a first down throwing with anticipation it not only requires the confidence in both your accuracy and the timing but it also forces the receiver to be on time and where the quarterback expects you to be and this is one of those examples man when those two things on point the results in first down and they'll be set up now up past the 40 with that one that's stick that foot in the ground you break in balls on time results in a nice first down pickup a rare Miss for a quarterback that we've seen really come out on fire throughout this entire contest I mean his completion percentage Mike is well above League average and frankly it's really the biggest reason why they find themselves out in front to the air once more it's moms a throw left side but it's out so they'll take over at the 30 yd line the Falcons offense ready to get back at it they find themselves down three touchdowns here needing to flip the script in a hurry and they'll start it here on first down from the shotgun it's [Applause] cousins he's got this to Bean Robinson and they will bring him down on the other side of Midfield the Falcons offense ready to get back to work they'll begin with great field position a short field in fact as they start with a first down play action now it's cousins and he got rid of that one quickly before the receiver even knew what was going on that's incomplete trying to get it to Kyle Pitts and that will lead to a second down timing and trust critical elements of this quick passing game if your Target and the quarterback are not on the same page it winds up being an incompletion and a wasted down a throw there on second down going to be incomplete he you just rushed that decision just a little bit down field I mean it's one thing to trust your guy to make a play in tight coverage we see quarterbacks do that all the time but I think if he was a little bit more patient in his progression there was an easier throw out there that wouldn't make him have to throw such a tight window ball and put his receiver in a tight spot open man is money he's got it and they're going to take this into the Red Zone to the 15 yd line a huge play just before the half 32 yds if you want to score points at a high level in the NFL you have to generate explosive plays and after that big chunk pass play they find themselves now down there in the red zone and this is where you have to finish drives he's got his man it's Mooney and they'll get about half of what they needed it's a pick up of five and sets up second and five [Applause] hins momentum for these guys and that's important before halftime absolutely and I think the biggest thing this coach is trying to get across right now the sideline Mike is let's just cut into this lead and let's make it a onore game at half so they still got some work to do but if they can go into halftime regroup catch their breath just keep it close give yourself a fighting chance here out of the break they didn't leave much time on the clock to put together a drive here at the end of the first half and the kickoffs coming their way the dangerous niik Hardman on the return and this will work out quite well he'll get it all the way out to the 30 yd line so here comes the KC offense set to take over once more the lead is a couple of touchdowns as this drive kicks off first and 10 [Applause] Bo they will start it on the ground to run that clock and that'll be good for about a half dozen it'll set up second down so we're at halftime here in KC with the defending champs the Chiefs on top as we'll get you down to Orlando now that's where the coach is Jonathan Coachman and our EA Sports halftime report Williams now to return and they'll bring him down just shy of the 30 yd line the Falcons offense looking to get back to work as we begin this third quarter they Trail by two touchdowns so the time is now got to get that rally going it starts with first and 10 now the second year man out of Tex PN Robinson and tough running there he's up to the 32 with Justin Reed up from the safety spot to make the stop they go play at oh they're on him in a Flash and he's lost the football and the defense has it set to go now on First and 10 throwing is Ms that's to the end zone but it's incomplete there's a saying on defense Mike tips and overthrows you've got to get those those guys to turn into interception so if you're the offense here after you saw that ball batted in the air man I can promise you it felt like a lifetime waiting to see if it just falls harmlessly to the ground now Ms gives it to Pacheko he's Twisted down and a late flag comes in we're going to get a face mask added on here [Applause] now another try at first and goal albeit from a little further back gray is the motion man [Applause] here throwing now Mah that's going to be caught by gray and he's going to be stopped at about the four [Applause] inside the five it is second and [Applause] goal throwing from the gun here's Patrick he's got his big tight end Travis Kelsey touchdown Kansas City so the turnover turns into a quick touchdown and break that's exactly how you want your offense to take care of business any time your defense can create those Sudden Change situations Mike absolutely you have to take advantage of it one second you're sitting on the bench going over your next drive all of a sudden after that turnover you've got to be able to get out on the field and go take advantage of the short field and results in a nice touchdown [Applause] [Applause] so now it's bucker following the touchdown to send this one away this will be returned from the six nice job by the return team as he takes it across the 30yd line here comes the Atlanta offense now they get set to take over once more they are in need of points in a big way as they set out on First and [Applause] 10 the drive will begin here with a run by Robinson and he'll get about six there setting up second down [Applause] to throw his cousin that's complete to McLoud and it'll be a short pickup that's not enough for the first down so they have these rules for the receivers mik they call them green grass rules and the idea is if you're running across the field and you're looking at the quarterback you're going to stay on the run if you're not looking at the quarterback that tells him I'm going to sit in this soft zone I'm going to what they call punch and pivot and stop and that to oh in trouble down he goes here in the second half you find yourself trailing late every single possession is critical you can't waste any of them but now after that third down sack got to imagine a punt is coming the likelihood of a comeback just continues to go down the Falcons send their punting unit out as he'll come on to punt this one [Applause] away the Chiefs offense ready to take over once again they've definitely outplayed their opponents to this point in the third quarter they might be looking to grind out some first downs and chew up some valuable time on the clock [Applause] on the ground Edwards aair and they're going to Mark him down right at the 30 yd line it's a nice start to the drive a gain of 10 and a quick first down so as we take a look at the box score Mike you realize here they got the lead we're in the second half but they don't have a lot of rush yards it's because they use the passing game to score points and EST establish the lead now how we judge their run game is from here to the end of the game can they pile up yards now in the second half and close this game out and he's going to get this one out to the 43 yd line 12 yds on that hook up first down KC Mike think back to our conversation during the break we've kind of both asked ourselves are they content with this double digit lead do they come out and play conservative here in the second half well it took exactly One play to get our answer they continue to get chunk plays like this this thing could get out of reach fast and it'll be brought down as we tick towards the end of this third [Applause] quarter they'll come to the line now on second and [Applause] two momes quickly out to right and the tackle is going to be made down at the 40 yd line moms finding rice for the Kansas City first down receiver just finds himself in a really nice Groove and there's these weird times in the game Mike where it just seems like every ball comes your way every play they call your wide open and you just find yourself in one of those grooves that athletes talk about so they got to continue to ride the hot hand cuz right now on nowhere this is what every defense in the league is shooting for Mike negative plays that's how you kill drives Force teams to play from behind the sticks great job here taking them down for a loss good job by the defense with a negative play how often do we see linebackers be so fast trying to track down the ball carrier that they end up actually overrunning the play and allowing the running back to cut back but not this guy does a great job staying in Phase stretching this ball out sideways and he brings him down for a loss so this one in the wind colum for the Chiefs and it was their
