The Citadel has plans for its football stadium to double as a concert venue but Charleston zoning officials say it isn't allowed. The military college will appealed the decision next week. Claire Weber joins us with why the project may be stopped and what neighbors think. >> The Citadel requested a zoning opinion from officials in February. Officials say due to its residential zoning the school can't go through with it. >> We expect college activity. That's part of Citadel life. That's not what they're proposing. >> School officials have been told they cannot become a concert venue. The city says this request is different. >> What's being proposed is a concert series that's not like the college is putting on a concert. They would be working with the promoter to bring in different activities. >> The Citadel outlined a proposal to host six to 10 outdoor concerts early this year. The number of events is a major part of the city's decision. >> A one off may have a little noise and generate traffic. It's a one off in a facility designed to have some capacity. But when you do a series, that changes the residential character of the adjacent neighborhood. >> With concerns of noise, parking and traffic, this is what neighbors say they fear. Kevin has lived on the street for nearly 30 years and says the proximity to homes must be considered. >> It's not designed for this sort of thing. If it had been designed that way like the Joe Riley stadium or was built far off by itself. That might have been a different situation but it was never intended to be a concert venue. >> He thinks neighbors would be open to a compromise that says The Citadel hasn't shown any signs of offering one.
