WVU Football Recruiting: Another Defensive Score

Intro well seems I can't step away from the computer these days without getting a commitment coming up thought I had time to take a shower and I come back and hey we've got another commitment uh one who was not expected to commit for another couple of days but I guess he knew I'm doing a live video tonight about the recruiting and he wanted to be in it I'm sure that was the that was the decision maker right yeah sure ah Dream On Dream On yeah anyway things looking good for WVU football and this is WVU football going deep I'm Forest poon I actually have a little bit of energy this morning so I am uh additionally silly all right uh please share subscribe click the thumbs up hold on here a moment while I make some room for rockus and for those of you who are new to the channel rockus is uh one of our older cats and he's got some issues so he is isolated in this room and he gets special privileges when he wants to uh come to the desk or just about anything else like turning on the computer screen all right yeah hey kid okay meanwhile uh West Virginia has picked up Evan Powell a commitment from Evan Powell uh listed in some cases as defensive end or as an edge rusher uh he's coming out of Maryland which I think makes our fourth uh commitment from Maryland uh we are hitting things big there uh and in this case big means 6'4 about 245 to 250 lb uh now at 250 lb he'd be an edge rusher they put about 25 lbs on him and he becomes the uh uh field side defensive end or defensive tackle I forget which uh they have changed the nomenclature a bit so we no longer have one defensive end and one defensive tackle we have a boundary side and a field side pal has the speed to play the field side and the uh Highlights agility uh looking at his highlights uh he does get to the quarterback pretty darn quickly and if he let's say the quarterback does manage to step aside pow is able to change direction get back and take the quarterback down anyway that's not something you find a lot uh in a defensive lineman and that is looking to be one of his uh particular abilities now poell is not a guy who's gotten a Powell lot of attention uh seems to be somebody who has come one late as a number of players do and I've said before uh Neil Brown and his staff have a way of spotting these guys uh not for what they are but for what they are becoming and what they will be and if you check out Powell's announcement video on X uh he does sound like he understands Brown's approach so I think he will fit well uh that means hard work that means understanding the need to get better every day no matter how good you are today and that is why he will become a standout player not his first year maybe not his second year probably a guy who will uh he know start getting about 10 plays a game his second year and work his way up from there but he is going to uh worry Other Notes offenses in the future now let's see uh other notes now the one negative I did notice in his highlights he has a habit of standing up and then going forward on some plays instead of getting that initial drive off the ball now most of the time he got the drive but he did just kind of go up first then forward enough to notice and that is something the coaches and the offensive linemen will cure him of pretty quickly uh cuz in high school he can get away with it Big 12 it isn't going to fly so uh but he has multiple moves uh it's got a swim move a spin and a bull rush uh doesn't always do them as well as he needs to but the fact that he already has at least three moves is good you've got a lot of guys uh who get by either with strength or quickness develop one move and think they're good and then Live Video Announcement they start running into guys who take that move and just eat it up and you either develop more moves or you transfer to a lower conference um so he's he's ahead of the game in that respect uh um okay I do want to note I'll be doing a live video tonight starting at 7:30 meantime I'm going to try and get my head together uh kind of got thrown off schedule here but in a good way this makes I think 20 recruits for this class doesn't finish the class uh expectations are will get a commitment from at least one more defensive lineman one more receiver possibly somebody in the defensive back field uh there's a couple of G we hope but not likely to happen and it would be good we've got I think two offensive linemen that we are hoping one of the two will commit that would pretty much finish out the offensive line otherwise we wait until later and pick somebody up nothing to worry about oh and still uh would like to pick up one more linebacker and we do have again a couple of guys who will be making announcements we might get one of them we might not okay
