[Music] welcome to Dodger Stadium inter league baseball on MLB The Show it's the Los Angeles Angels taking on the Los Angeles Dodgers first pitch coming at you right after the break right just about ready for baseball and on the mound now Anthony Bund and singy we were talking earlier about how he's doing a great job navigating through tough spots I've just been so impressed it seems like there's more pressure he's more calm and settles in he's done an incredible job with runners in scoring position most guys they get a little tight they start to aim the baseball but for some reason he gets looser the ball comes out of his hand with more life and he's able to off the hook of you know tough situations and get his team back in the Dugout oh there he doesn't look comfortable taking ground balls from that position on the infield they always say soft feet soft hands well he had brick hands on that one Luis Rango in the box now no balls in a [Applause] strike D here's a guy at the paint I'm expecting to have a good game he always seem to play better in Road games kicks and Fire swing and a miss struck him out couldn't hit the fast ball at the knees and next for the Angels Taylor Ward Outfield playing very deep not wanting anything over their heads that's off the mark and it's one and0 just missed last two pitches have been down in the zone pitch are clearly trying to get that ground ball double play but in this count you're going to have to get Elevate his pitches and get back into this at bat and that drops in for a strike looks like he's just sizing him up there really good pitch to hit but he took it all the way sometimes guys just want to set their timing later on in the game that may be a Pitch that he turns on on the ground right side and it goes just foul and a foul ball he stays alive the pitch bounc to the left side Hernandez oh the throw is over his [Applause] head here's Kevin polar well all eyes on the double play ball in this spot no better way to get out of this inning first pitch misses going to lay off that pitch [Applause] down next offering is in for a strike two on one out swings through down one ball two St and a pitch got him swinging good late cut for the strike out there that thing really got in on him and you know the cutter isn't really a huge swing and Miss pitch most of the time because he's not really meant to move a whole lot you're just trying to miss the big part of the barrel and maybe get some weak contact but that one right there did a whole lot more than that that was a really good piit now here is Logan ohappy side nabs it run attacks from third throw is down and he scores and they take a two-run lead so many times that one gets out of here and into the seats but he'll take the sack fly RBI good job to get scoring runs this is where you're looking for that shut down inning get that hot team back in there to swing the bats right through there for a strike oh you can throw that big curve on the inside part of the plate very difficult P for the hitter to get on plain with you could have a lot of success if you could pitch in that location to the right side payward to First and a quick out number one and next for the Angels Zack net Netto playing up the middle at Short hitting seventh in today's lineup a former first round pick in 2022 and that is cut on and missed it's [Applause] one out to short and he saved at first [Applause] and now the center fielder Mickey monc and there's a ball the Dodgers up by two here at the top of the second next offering in there for a strike strike one didn't recognize off speed thought it was fast ball a little bit out in front foul back ourway and that's out of play swings and misses it's a strike out P the string of the change up he's really good hitting the baseball the other way so credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch clearly he had him here's Luis goret got a a throwback no batting [Applause] gloves first pitch back here at Dodger Stadium bottom half of inning number two and here's the rookie center fielder Andy PES just missed ripped On A Line to Center and there's one down man that's one of those ADV bats where you have to remind yourself it's about the process he did everything right right there nothing to show for it but in your mind you have to convince yourself that it was a very good at bat B stock center field so they get a man aboard with a one out single didn't take long to get a result for that at bat pitch was on the outside didn't go the other way with it but still a nice job using the big part of the field to find a hole no way he hits it that well if he hooks around the baseball there Enrique Hernandez stands in here takes ball one low this one in the air center field and it drops in they fired in quickly so it's first and second with only one away here comes Chris Taylor that pitch would have been called a strike but he did such a nice job of pulling his hands tight drive base Hill coming home he scores and they lead by three safely into second he's got a double well no waiting around right there he was ready to swing it on the first pitch anytime you rip a line drive the other way you feel really good about what you did at the plate you trusted your hands you let the ball travel and you took the ball straight to it that's great work right there oh Tony the batter now as he swings and misses for strike one who doesn't love to watch Shi play baseball I mean voters certainly did when they made him the unanimous choice for MVP in the light drive pulls it down and they're two away it's never fun going back to the Dugout after hitting the line drive that finds a glove but you will get some high fives you know when you make great contact you feel like you've done everything right but in this game of baseball not everything is in your control Zips it to First that ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand Dodgers with a run scoring double it's now three nothing back after this on the show on to the third inning now it's the Angels leadoff man Nolan shanell Bond back to work and a foul ball [Music] and the 01 on the line base hit and the lead off man aboard off the bat it was headed for the Gap all the way and as a hitter you love seeing those as you take your first couple of steps out of the box you know you got some real estate to run on and such a good feeling nice liner into the Gap right there makes the grab one away and next for the Angels Taylor Ward he's over for one and that's off the Inside Edge ball one the Dodgers leading by three we're here in the top half of inning number three two and0 next offering is in for a strike in today's game not that many fast ball counts but hitters still in the back of their minds they're looking for Two Change Up Call right there excellent pitch selection to go with hit on the ground might be two there's one not in time at first it's a fielder's Choice well when you got a guy playing out of position you'll see plays like this that should have been a double play but the feed to Second took way too long to blame the guy since he didn't ask to be penciled in at that spot par stands in with two away as he takes a ball swing and a highfly ball down the left field line but hooking foul ward off of first with two away [Applause] and they'll do it again and the pitch that's a little bit low two ball two [Applause] [Applause] strik bounced up the middle oh great grab on the dive but no chance that's an infield single so two on with two away and now the designated hitter for the Angels Logan ohappy on the ground to third into the Outfield base hit the throw in and he's out a down and that ends the inning well it's pretty difficult to throw a base runner out at the plate with two outs on a base hit to The Outfield but an excellent job of coming up with it getting rid of it quickly and throwing on the money that is great technique from start to finish nice job to end the inning and we're back ready to go for the last half of the inning Freddy Freeman up to the [Applause] dish and a pitch to to the right side goret gets it to first one gone bottom of the third inning and now teoscar Hernandez deceptive slider right there stayed in the tunnel a long time got that hitter out front rolled over it put it on the ground and that one hammered and it's off the foul pole for a home run a gigantic blast and they add a run it's 4 nothing and that shot makes their grip on the the lead even [Applause] tighter well he really crushed that thing down the line and everyone had to hold their breath until it clanked off the pole and every time that happens it just kind of feels like a trick shot or something but really it's just a stroke of luck that it stays Fair long enough and now Jason Hayward that one's in there going one one out Bas is empty here comes a pitch right side and that chance handled in plenty of time to first got him good late bite on that slider got the hitter out in front rolled over on it exactly what it was supposed to do there's a swing and a dve that's back there BS off the wall and he's got a double waste no time there just a cookie down the middle I mean those are the ones you dream about ones in the cage you're just hoping you get in the ball game right down the middle not a whole lot of velocity right on top of it Miguel roas at the pl lined and that's a base hit Here Comes pz Around third he'll score easily and the lead is up to five there does a great job of staying in the big part of the field man there are a lot of hits there runner at first with two away here's ke Hernandez swing and a miss nice change up oh one the [Applause] count two runs AC cross in the inning here in the last half of the third up the middle they get the force and that'll do it they put two on the board on three hits back for more of the freeway series here's the catcher Matt th the pitch on the ground of first Freeman and he handles it himself for the out well he's doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball good execution and first off ring is fouled off here's a fun fact Dodgers Stadium was also the home of the Los Angeles Angels for four years in the 1960s while they waited for Anaheim Stadium to be built when the Angels were playing games at home instead of Dodger Stadium they called it Chavez Ravine Stadium whips it to first two up two down and next for the Angels Mickey monc struck out swinging his first time this to third Hernandez fires over to First Angels retired 1 two three and welcome back to the ballpark now it's the right fielder Chris Taylor on the ground to the left Finds Its way through base [Applause] hit nobody out well that started and ended pretty quickly no messing around right joce gets the call from the pen he's pitching on two days rest and up to the plate is Will Smith Line Drive face H they won't test it here Bas is loaded no outs that's three singles in a row showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way didn't get jumpy didn't try to pull the ball B hits and a re one runs in a second scores his well and they p the way up by seven now teoscar Hernandez steps to the plate for the Dodgers fouled off he was late Smith on second Freeman at first with no outs here's a swing and a drive left field and he knew it a massive home run his second home run of the game and they throw three on the board it's 10 nothing well that one won't stay below the radar that made a lot of [Applause] [Applause] noise that one was a hanger and pitchers typically don't get away with making a mistake like that and right there he made him pay and at the plate for the Dodgers Jason Hayward he swings and misses and it's nothing in W and one [Applause] left hand batter Waits down the line and that's a foul ball well pretty clear to me he was trying to go deep right there but you got to get a pitch that you can handle and that one is lifted in the air par brings it in one away maybe caught that one off the end just a little bit couldn't quite Barrel it up enough to really drive it Andy pus steps to the plate for the Dodgers right side hard hit goret to first two away so up next Miguel Roos up the middle Netto over to First that'll end the inning after a lot of scoring Big Three three run shot for the Dodgers it's now 10 zip you're dialed into the show all set for the start of the inning now it's the second baseman Luis goret the pitch well every pitcher wants a run support and having a lead is nice but it can be challenging for some pitchers I think keeping the mindset to attack instead of trying to be too fine and have too much finesse go after hitters and get quick outs Feld two oh one well that's kind of what you expect in an 02 count excellent job of the hitter to have the plate disciplined to lay off of that pitch swings and misses one away Nolan shanell the next to hit for the Angels swing in a Miss as he was out front sometimes as lefted hitter you know you're going to see at least one or two breaking balls in the atat so why not go up there ready to hit has some trouble with it safe at first as they can't make the play Runner on at first with one gone now it's going to be Luis Rango a switch hitter batting right that one finds the zone and it's and one GRE heo measures 5' 10 in 195 lb and he was born in Venezuela the angels with a lot of ground to make up and we the top of the fif so a foul ball makes it one and two fights it off he'll see [Applause] another and a pitch and a base hit right there quick throw back in lead Runner holds it second with one gone two consecutive base hits for these guys guys here nice line drive to the P side met it out front but just stayed through it nice enough and ripped it into the Outfield Ward stands in now looks at that one inside swing and a miss nice change up Shell at second rang heo at first one gone [Applause] two on one out that one 95 to finish him off and next will be the cleanup hitter Kevin [Applause] po smoked on the ground a second sends it to First and the inning is over strand a couple they're down 10 nothing back now to start the bottom of the fifth and taking over on the mound number 59 well they need someone to stop the bleeding and keep the score right where it is seems like a tough task today with the way this lineup is swinging it you know these Dodgers digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they're taking they have five extra base hits on the stat sheet so far and that tells me they're seeing the ball out of the pitcher hand really well and here it comes swing in a Miss with all those extra base hits it's easy to think we're going to see that Trend continue the rest of the game they seem to be really locked in at the plate at the belt and fires ground ball right side it's through for a hill and aboard on the leadoff single well he wasn't afraid to hit with two strikes I think he choked up a little bit maybe spread out but he got the job done right there Here Comes Chris Taylor that one gets down for a hit throw back in quickly first and second now with nobody out having himself a really nice game at the plate to me it's just a really control balance swing he wasn't trying to do too much with it just stayed disciplined got the barrel to the ball and put it in Play here's Jo Otani and a foul ball no outs Runners at first and [Applause] second swinging a foul over the screen and back out of play [Applause] rander kick steals that one is absolutely beled that's B out of here his second Homer this series and they add to their lead it's 13 nothing that's their third home run of the game they're having a lot of fun at the plate in this one they've got the long ball working for them on autopilot a good hitter gets pitch recognition early he saw exactly where that was going to be the challenge not get over anxious and come out of your swing he stayed on it and got all of it pitching change here Carson Fulmer and with the big deficit on the scoreboard he almost has to just put that out of his mind every outing matters for relievers in their numbers but swing and this one's blasted it's got a chance pulls it in on the warning track one unusual feature of Dodger Stadium grve those low in the Outfield Corners as they towards home plate lots of homers and automatic doubles because of them just a weak Fly ball this time and it falls BS so a man aboard now with one away you touched on this singy but Dodger stadium has become much more hitter friendly than it used to be a few decades back it was probably the most pitcher friendly ballpark in the lead Hernandez now at the plate as he swings through strike one he swings and fouls one off and the right hter deals center field and a base hit to Third and the throws off line safe at third just a very nice approach in swing right there to use the big part of the field everything was on time he stayed balanced through the entire swing and just launched that one into [Applause] Center oh one down foul ball [Applause] there gets a piece and stays alive first and third one [Applause] down keeps the back going with a foul ball left hand hitter Waits foul off the plate they'll do it again five foul balls in a row I have no idea what that feels like but you got to love this battle just wondering who's going to Blink [Applause] first only and two now gets a piece there we'll do it again eighth pitch of the back coming up foul ball it stays nothing in [Music] two and the righty deals spoils the two strike pitch and he'll see another I'll tell you with pitch counts being such a big consideration in today's game an amazing fight at the pl like this ends up being incredibly valuable running that pitch count up no matter what the result ends up being he's going to get a lot of high fives in The Dugout and he dial gets a piece and it stays 0 and [Applause] two line drive and that should be extra bases one run across grounds third headed for the plate he'll score two runs are in and and they extend their lead a little more back spin on that know Bullpen guys can struggle sometimes called upon with big leads because it just doesn't have the same Di and he can't hang on no play that's an infield single now he'll take over at second base it's just such a tough play for a third base field it on your [Music] your back can and then trying to get off such a long throw across the diamond with a quick enough release to get it there in time really only the best at the position can pull that off and I think that extra step to set his feet cost him a little bit right there and he moves up 90 ft Runners at the corners now one away two on with one out Mickey monad getting ready to hit that's in there and that is strike one well in this situation with Runners on you've got to get ahead in the count that you can dictate the rest of the at second and he's in safely at third with one out next up the Dodgers catcher Will Smith first round pick out of Louisville in 2016 that one ripped that's a base hit run scores comes through with the vicia compared to some days this is a pretty low leverage appearance for him so he should be fairly free and easy out there still have to keep yourself sharp and attack the strike zone Thea known as a guy with Pretty Lights Out type stuff racks up the strikeouts but the command at times can eluded one two bals it back with two strikes the pitch foul ball still a one and two [Applause] count and now the Lefty that's ball [Applause] swings through that one it's a strike out well that's the money maker right there two strikes slider down and away from the same side thrower as the hitter I mean that's just tough you're looking to protect with two strikes and very difficult to lay [Applause] off one down base is empty swi in a Miss struck him out chance to strike out the side now you talk about the benefits the advantages of believers who can come in and get the swing and Miss whether it's inherited runners or maybe a little Jam that they get into themselves knowing that they can miss the bat tell you what that's huge and can change the ball game and there's a hit and that keeps the inning going just a total nightmare for lefties I'd be very surprised to see that match up again you'll often hear the short to it long through it and that's a great example of it right there got the Barrel in The Hitting Zone early squared it up with the well time swing and came away with a beautiful Line Drive in the center [Applause] field swings through it and that's a strike out this one pretty well set for the last half of the seven and at the plate for the Dodgers Gavin Lux fouls went off out of play back to our left [Music] the pitch out towards right center field he Dives but can't hang on that's a base hit to second but way too late safe there didn't try to do too much with it just a really controlled simple swing we don't see a whole lot of that these days with hitters trying to launch light drive base hit Lux around third he'll score and the lead continues to grow well done drives in the run that pretty much split the Zone down the middle and those are the ones where you got to make them pay and now Miguel Roos puts it in the air out towards left Center that won't gets down for a hit throw back in quickly first and second now with nobody out clearly seeing the ball very well in this one that ball right there landed in what they call a No Man's Land meaning it's not really a spot on the field where you can expect anyone to get to it ler base hit pus headed for the plate he scores and they extend their lead four hits in a row and they're really swinging it here I could watch base hits like that one all day long and so could every hitting coach in the league just a nice Line Drive in center field next to hit Chris Taylor first and second no outs here the bottom of the [Applause] seven that smash toward Center Dives but it kicks off is glow and they're having to Play Station to Station right here Bas is loaded nobody out so turns over now it's the doer lead off here show Otani swing and a miss looked off balance that time Roos the runner at third Hernandez over at second Taylor on at first with nobody out and now maybe extra bases and he gets by Runner around third he's safe and they clear the bases and the lead continues to grow play the plate and he's out he tried for the inside the Parker and he couldn't make it now the number two hitter Will Smith lifted in the air now the left side and it stays [Applause] Fair the thirdly he was ready to hit right there just a blue pit behind third right there and that's a really tough play for a third baseman or short stop to get to and the same for the left fielder so he just found a perfect place to drop that one in right there that's out number two man at first to Oscar Hernandez steps to the plate for the Dodgers he's been a great free agent side swing and a ball ripped out towards right center field that'll TouchDown for a hit around third he will score and they extend their lead picks himself up in RBI I'll tell you man it's such a good feeling when you smoke a line drive into the Gap like that I mean sure home runs are King but I feel like nothing makes you feel like a true professional hitter in the left Center for a base hit coming home the throw in safe sa couple of hits in a row form here just a really nice approach to shoot that line drive to the opposite field there's a lot of hard work and discipline that goes into getting a result like that at the plate doesn't come naturally for most hitters [Applause] in the air left field sizing this one up makes the grab and that is that but they scor back here at Dodger Stadium we're at the top of the eight now it's the DH for the Angels Logan Oh Hoy that's a strike and it's own and one the pitch that one close rule the ball and the count is one and one swing and a miss and he was full two St and a pitch runs it up to 96 to record the punch out Matt F comes up to hit here one for three down the middle for a strike going one looks like he sacrificed to pitch right down the middle for tracking and timing some good hitters will do that he goes down looking and next for the Angels Zach Netto the short stop takes the ball well as good as things can be it can be a tough day at the office even for the Skippers seeing the offense just sputter not able to get anything going here's a 1-1 that one to First and Freeman the gold Glover makes the play he takes it on his own and it's a one back here at Chavez Ravine out of the bottom of the eth and the batter will be the short stop Miguel Roos line drive base hit right center field went up there looking to be aggressive and got something he could handle pretty much a model swing on that one as he ripped it into the opposite field Gap and I'm sure he's going to be watching that one back on video because that's the kind of Swing you want to B with so many positives that led to that KN that's a hit throw back in quickly first and second now with nobody out put a pretty good jolt into that one great swing nice balance and weight transfer and he got it to drop in out there in the Deep part of the field on the ground to short could be two n to Second back to First and that is a double play got what he was looking for on the mound right there and his infielders took care of business pretty textbook execution between short and second to turn that into two outs back to the top of the lineup now a chance for sh Otani foul [Applause] ball hard grounder into the outfield for a knock the Run scores from third and the lead continues to grow and his the new pitcher in the game Luis Garcia and we all know about a slider it's just filthy man one of the better ones in the game I'd say spin rate's very high and it just breaks a ton at the play Will Smith in the air pretty deep out to center field moniac makes the play and that ends the inning so it's one run three hits no errors here's the center we're back it's the top of the n and there's a new pitcher on the mound Lake Tran and he's had three days off since he pitched last so expect him to be totally rested I'm sure he's itching for this opportunity right now hard hit left side roas with to throw to first and the lead off man retired here in the ninth he's two outs away and next for the Angels Luis gor counts one and0 and that's in for a [Applause] strike and another ball we got two balls the Dodgers up big in this one here at the top of the night ground ball right side and that's just [Music] foul and a swing and a miss and now too gone well Bo I'll tell you when he goes to look at the video of that pitch he's going to want to punch himself that slider had hit me ridden all over it and clearly he just got a little too excited and was out in front tell you what when you get a pitch like that you cannot miss it those have a chance to go a long way [Music] one strike away and a ball in two strikes the other way they squeeze it for the final out and the Dodgers slug their way to a win in this one well at this point of the Year first day of the summer teams are really starting to figure out who they are are no more excuses about cold weather or any inclement
