hey everyone it's Alex Newman rgc news here with an important and heartbreaking news update today we're covering a truly shocking and terrifying incident out of Saskatoon that has left an entire community in shock yesterday at Evan Hardy Collegiate a 15-year-old girl was seriously injured after being dowed in a flammable substance and set on fire during an assault Yes you heard that right this happened inside a school imagine a place where students should feel safe A place meant for learning and growing became the sight of this horrifying event the attack happened around 12:30 in the afternoon right during school hours police say that emergency calls flooded in and the school had to be immediately evacuated students understandably were shocked and Confused one student described how the fire alarm went off and everyone just rushed out not knowing the full gravity of what had happened now here's the part that sends shivers down my spine the suspect a 14-year-old girl another student at the same school she was arrested within 60 seconds of the incident thanks to the quick actions of a school resource officer who was already on the premises for an unrelated event if it weren't for that officer being in the right place at the right time this situation could have been so much worse a teacher was also injured while trying to intervene think about that a teacher risking their life to protect their students the fire was thankfully extinguished quickly by staff and the police are now investigating this through their serious assault unit classes at Evan Hardy Collegiate have been canceled for today but the school remains open for students seeking counseling and support and trust me after something like this the entire Community needs support my thoughts go out to the victim and her family to the brave teacher who stepped in and to everyone affected by this horrific attack we'll be following this story as it develops but for now it's a chilling reminder that we need to be there for each other especially in our schools stay safe out there everyone please hug your loved ones check in on your friends and don't be afraid to speak up when something doesn't feel right as always if you found this video helpful or if you want to stay informed hit that like button share this with others and make sure to subscribe for more updates on this and other important stories
