back teoscar Hernandez we're going to talk about that but first the leadoff the hottest story in Dodger [Music] Dodgers win nail-biter over Cubs baseball so what a game it was for your Los Angeles Dodgers yesterday high scoring it looked like there was a chance they were going to blow another lead you had show hotani going deep having another stolen base the Dodgers they did beat the Cubs to salvage the series was a high scoring game 18 runs total I mean it was a football score at one point but the Dodgers win by a final score of 10 to8 they improved to 87 and 59 on the season now five games up of the ding back since they do own the tiebreaker it's essentially six games up they're 5 and a half games up on the Padre's and they Trail the Philadelphia Phil play for the best record in baseball just a game behind so this Dodgers team continues to be right at the top of Major League Baseball but yesterday it was a wild game it was a wild game and we're going to read your comments by you bleed blue twerking for you I don't know about that man I maybe I'll hit a gritty for you maybe I'll hit a gritty for you and do a couple shoes but uh twerk that's a it's wow man I get my kikk Hernandez on I'll put on a bad banana soon twerk for you guys I don't know about that we're talking about some more comments before we get into the first we got uh dude U yeah absolutely we got uh let's go Dodgers 50/50 here we go sorry about Bobby Miller but it's just not his season goani so that was the big story last night I mean the the offense they showed up sh Otani had another home run you had Will Smith he leaves the yard Max mty homers on his bobblehead night Tommy Edmond for the second night in a row hits multiple home runs and Stat of the show this is from opta stats they tweet out home run feeds for the Dodgers tonight leadoff home run check sh backto back to back home runs Edmund Smith and Muny four home run inning in the first player with home run from both sides and Edmond and they're the first team in MLB history to do all four of those things in the same game so how let's go Dodgers for the Dodgers making history in this one so good thing the offense did show up because Bobby Miller he struggled once again on the mound and it's been a very difficult season for Bobby Miller coming off that rookie year where he was third in Major League Baseball as far as the rookies and how well they pitched but it just hasn't the same he's been dealing with injuries the shoulder inflammation the abductor injury he just has not had the same level of effectivess he's dealt with a knee injury as well and last night I mean you look at it I mean you feel okay it's it's not the worst start in the world just because you were able to salvage some Innings you don't get chased and you were able to go deep and take advantage of a Dodgers offense that's able to put up a ton of runs but you just don't get the quality from Bobby Miller that you're expecting in those situations you definitely need a better version of Miller if you wanted any consideration of pitching in the postseason but if you look at his line last night it's just not going to get it done it's not going to get it done he gives up six runs in four and a thirds Innings had two strikeouts four walks gave up two home runs 90 pitches to get through four and thirds and that ra balloon up to 8.17 so an 817 El now for Bobby Miller on the season and you could see it on his face after the game that there was a level of frustration because he knows how good his stuff is it's not the stuff it's not a massive drop in velocity it's not like he doesn't have plus secondary pitches with the change up with a curveball anything like that it's just the command is not there and you guys know what I say if you want to be the man you have to have the command and right now Bobby Miller just does not have it four walks both the home runs coming off fast balls that just weren't well located and that fast ball is straight in zero it's a a very straight flat version of a 99 m per hour fastball does not have very much movement doesn't have very much run and last night he threw that fast ball to hitters in certain counts like the Cody Bellinger one where it's just not the right sequencing there in my estimation I think in that situation you have to go with what's working best for you right now and certainly that isn't the fast ball but it's not not because of velocity in fact last night he averaged 98.1 mph on the heater that was up5 milph for his yearly average he topped out at 99.4 milph he threw 27 fast balls 23 change UPS 22 curveballs 17 sinkers and one slider I think for him you probably want to ditch the four steam fastball a little bit and go with more Sinker and and establish the bottom of the Zone more because he gets into trouble with that four seam fast ball but Bob Miller was definitely frustrated here was him talking to reporters after the game yeah I mean the bad obviously um the homers it's been the story every outing right now um but yeah like I said a previous outing like what happens before the Homer there's uh couple walks you know um if it wasn't for that it would have been like one run inning in the first inning I believe um and other than that I mean just falling behind a couple hitters but they also just put together some good swings on really good pitches as well like uh couple really good swings on change UPS couple curveballs um fast ball at the end I felt like I got it to the spot I wanted to and Cody just put a great swing on it how do you have yeah it's hard you know I'm going through it right now to say the least um but you know there there's no doubt in my mind that I'm giving it my all every single time I'm out there you know try showing up early every single day I'm putting most amount of working I possibly can you know I'm just trying to give him a good game every time I'm out there you know I'm I'm not it's not like I'm not working hard or anything I'm working as hard as I can you know I'm I'm doing everything I can to have success out there and and I'm giving it my all every single time I'm out there so you can see the frustration on his face and look I remember a couple starts ago I asked him is this the best you felt all season and that was after he had nine strikeouts against the Rays and WI six Innings and he said yes and he said the biggest key to his success is throwing strikes and that is the problem area for Bobby Miller and you saw it there in that top of the first inning he got half to line out he got Swanson to ground out but then falls behind Suzuki and he walks him imagine if you just get Suzuki out and you go one two three in the first but then what happens is falling behind hitters you start off with the Curve twice in that at bat fouls off the fouram fast ball he miss with the change of Miss with the for fast ball and then another walk falls behind Cody Bellinger walks him on five pitches so backto back walks there and then falls behind parades and he's starting off hitters with the curveball early in counts but if you're not Landing it in the zone it's going to be very very difficult so that's where the problem is he needs the command on that fast ball to get that curveball to work off of it follows behind parades and parades ultimately singles to right that scored Suzuki to put the Cubs up early one- nothing and the next batter he does get ahead of Michael Bush but on the sixth pitch of the bat he hangs a curveball he leaves It Up In the Zone and Bush doubles to right that scored another run B crosses home plate the Cubs go up two nothing and then later in the game the third inning to Suzuki he goes with a sinker second Pitch the at bat middle middle I mean that's a batting practice level fast ball right there and Suzuki hits at 382 feet he crushes it for a bomb that gave the Cubs three runs and this is after after the Dodgers put up a Five Spot there with knowon home run and Edmond Home Run the Smith home run a mount Muny home run there in the bottom of the first so they get right back in at five runs on 56 and then Bobby Miller later in the third gives of that home run and then in the fifth inning he has a seven to3 lead he has a seven to3 lead at that point and first batter falls behind hap goes with a curveball up in the zone so you got to find something to land in the zone for strike one if you're starting out 1 and0 1 and0 1 and0 and they're sitting on your fast ball and you're feeling pressured to land that curveball you're going to hang some and they're going to bang it and they're going to hit it and they're going to extra base hits so after that half single he walked Swanson on four pitches got Suzuki to flow for the first out they went Cody Bell at the plate falls behind misses with the change up off the plate away gets it to 22 belly fouls off a couple seventh pitch of theat he throws a sinker they just did not hit his spot on the out outside and belly hits a three-run shot and that was it for Bobby Miller so the command early in counts is just not there and the big number one issue the number one thing you need to know about Bobby Miller right now is he just has an inability to keep the ball in the yard Suzuki hit a home run in the third R inning Cody Bellinger hit a bomb there with one out in the fifth inning and you got six runs charged you at that point he's allowed 17 deep flies this season 17 that's the second most on the team but he's only made 12 starts 17 bombs in 12 starts just to give you a little context there he's just one home run behind Gavin Stone as far as home runs allowed and Gavin stones made 25 starts biller Miller made 12 and last season he did a pretty decent job of keeping the ball in the yard he allowed 12 home runs and 22 starts and that's facing 505 batters this year 244 batters faced he's given up 17 home runs so I mean that's a very high home run rate 6.96% to 2.38% so that definitely is the issue and then you couple that with the fact that he's just not Landing as secondary pitches for strikes and you see why he has a era north of eight he threw 23 change UPS like I said 22 curveballs like I said one slider and 23 of those 23 of those 46 were balls the two home runs allowed were come via that heater so it's difficult I mean an 817 ER in 12 starts this season he's dealt the shoulder inflamation he had the best start of his career to start things off it looked like he was going to build on that the strikeout the 11 strikeout game against the Cardinals back in late March but after that it's been a big time struggle a big time struggle for Bobby Miller now what's going to be the future for Miller well Bobby Miller's place within the Dodgers rotation Dave Roberts said after the game he told us that he's going to make his next start and the truth of the matter is that Bobby Miller is in the rotation right now because there's injured starters when Tyler Glassell gets healthy Bobby Miller isn't going to pitch anymore and roesy he can't come back up unless it's to fill in for an injured player would you rather see Ben casus at this point I think that you could have a conf ation about that Landon Knack is someone who's been very dependable in his role all season long but unfortunately this is just not Bobby Miller's year and I still believe in Bobby Miller I'm not selling any of my Bobby Miller stock it's just he has things he needs to figure out he has to figure out what kind of pitcher does he want to be he has to find out what his identity is I almost feel like for Bobby Miller he has this he's like a superhero that has this superhero strength and it's almost working against him because it forces him to not focus on what works for him the fact that he can't throw 99 I think that okay if you have a 99 m per hour fastball you should throw it more right well yeah in theory probably but not when you can you can't locate it you got to be able to locate it for it to be effective for you so I think he has to decide what he wants to be I think that he gets a couple more wax of the p as far as a starting pitcher goes but look the reason why I would never sell my Bobby Miller stock is look first of all his rookie season a 376 ra 119 strikeouts and 124 in the thirds Innings and he started the postseason that did not go well but this season he was injured I want to see what Bobby Miller looks like as a starter when he's fully healthy and they have the entire offseason to go over his sequencing go over his mechanics and his attack plan and if that doesn't work out I still think you could get value from him as a bullpen piece imagine him going out there and emptying the tank and then trying to throw 100 101 I mean maybe it could be a Michael copc type of pitcher at some point in his career if you just go with that change up or that curveball he told me before the season the slider was a big point of emphasis as far as taking his game to the next level but look it's tough for Bobby Miller and you hate to see guys struggle but the truth of the matter is is that he'll probably make one more start and barring injury that's the last you're going to see of Bobby Miller for this season but uh it'll be Miller time it'll be Bobby's World next season but for the remainder of this year he's had his opportunities and he just has not made the most of them Lorenzo G us a 999 Super Chat appreciate you my guy I'm going to give you a little comment of the show action right there Bobby is stubborn he shook off the speed pitch from will for a fast ball to ball on belly yes change up is next to touchable but he wants the fast ball to be the swing and miss and it's just not yeah absolutely I mean you look at the whiff on that pitch it just is not there you're absolutely correct on that to the first inning there was he was was not missing bats at all whatsoever was not missing bats and it's he's just kind of an enigma in that sense I mean he's in the 95th percentile 95th percentile in fastball velocity averaging 97.5 mph on his heater but but he's below average when it comes to whiff rate 24.2% below average when it comes to strikeout rate 20.5% in the 33rd percentile isn't missing barrels isn't limiting hard contact at a high level the expected y the expected batting average isn't pretty either so look the good thing is he has the stuff he has the ingredients it just he needs to know how to put them together and as you mentioned the fast ball just has gotten beaten up bad this season opponents hitting 323 off his fast ball slugging 674 with an expected slug of 664 you also were right on the money the change up is his best pitch opponent hitting 111 off that change up slugging 200 only problem is for that change up to be more effective and to be in situations where he can use it more regularly he's got to locate that fast ball so he knows he has to work on and the good thing about it is still young still is in a great organization that can teach him but uh sneaky Panda $5 Super Chat Bobby needs flarity inside him so he can have his DNA and Pitch like him yeah look I mean I said this on the show a couple weeks ago I'll give you a fire take for that one sneaky panda is that these young going from watching some of these young players trying to figure it out to Jack flarity it's definitely you see how much you can grow as a pitcher in four or five seasons Jack flarity knows what he is he know knows what he does he knows how important fastball command is and he also has the Poise to pitch with Runners on base that's one of the big issues for Bobby Miller is just not being comfortable with Runners on base and if you look at the numbers throughout his my league career that's always been an issue for Bobby Miller once a runner reaches base whether it be thr a walk hit batter a hit the elay the expected numbers they all go through the roof he has to learn how to pck pitch with Runners on basee this season and moving forward that's going to be the biggest key for Bobby Miller because you look at someone like Jack flare as you pointed out he's got that dog he's got that slow heartbeat he has that ability just to take a deep breath and execute pitches right his opponents are hitting less than 200 with Runners on and runners in scoring position this year Bobby Miller with Runners on 87 at bats opponents have a 1,73 Ops runners in scoring position they have a 1,39 Ops so you see it right there I look Bobby Miller he's got to come on the show I'm telling you the Dodgers dug at live karma is real dalan rushing Miguel Rojas Landon a Tyler glass now I mean Andrew Freeman it's the the Dodgers dug out karma is real definitely mooki before the season um but yeah let's let's switch gears though I definitely want to talk about Tommy Edmond because Tommy Edmund is absolutely in his bag right now and I saw people freaking out a couple weeks ago hey dmac you said Tommy edman was going to be good you said he was going to be the ultimate Dodgers utility player he's a below average bat what I say he's still in spring training mode he's been dealing with an injury last season he played through inflammation to his wrist had the surgery missed most of the season and he's starting to ramp it up and right now he's basically getting out of spring training mode and before yesterday's game he was a below average bat now after hitting four home runs in two games he's hitting 300 with a 126 weighted runs created plus has two multi-home Run games give a let go Tommy Edman slams 4 homers in 24 hours Dodgers Tommy Edmond so the big key for Tommy Edmond is the fact that he has the versatility where he can hit home runs from both sides of the plate he told us yesterday after the game that was the first time he had done that hit a home run from the right side hit a home run from the left side and power really isn't a part of his game Power isn't something that he's hung his hat on as far as his hitting ability he's always been a a consistent hitter that is above average when he's healthy but the most home runs he's ever hit in a season was 13 he did that twice 2022 and 2023 here to tell I was crunch the numbers if he hits two home runs a game for the rest of the year he'll end up with 36 home runs wouldn't that be awesome and if he hits two home runs again that would be the Dodgers record for most multi home runs a game consecutively so wouldn't that be cool but the big takeaway for me yesterday is Tommy Edmond is going to be such a GameChanger for this lineup because I like see him in the cleanup spot I really did it's nice to see a contact oriented hitter amongst all those Sluggers but the funny thing about it is he was slugging and I love to have him at the bottom of the lineup he's got speed he's one of the best base runners in the game he can act as that second leadoff hitter and get on base to give sh Otani and Muki bets and Freddy Freeman runs scoring opportunities so he's going to be absolutely big and this just goes back to show the Dodgers at this point the Los Angeles Dodgers and Andrew fredman they crushed the trade deadline we have a large enough sample size to Why the Dodgers won the trade deadline know the Dodgers won the deadline look at the Players they added Tommy Edmund hitting 300 26% above League average back-to-back two Home Run games he solved their center field issue they were having a center they did not have a center fielder that was that could hit and stay in the lineup and be an above average bat every single night offensively and defensively now they have a plus center fielder they address that then you trade for Jack flarity Jack flarity has been the best starting pitcher that was traded at the deadline he's the Jack of all trades he's posted a 261 erra that's the 15th lowest in baseball after the deadline but it's the lowest ER for any starting pitcher that was traded you ask hey what's Tariq scoel ER what's Garrett crochet erra two of the top targets that the Dodgers didn't get that everyone wanted including myself well scoble a 307 erra higher than Jack fl's 261 and Garrett crochet the big Marquee trade Target since the deadline he's posted a 732 erra in seven starts in 19 and two thirs innings so Jack flar has been the best starting pitcher that was traded he's given the Dodgers stability he's pitched at least five innings in all seven of his starts his last start he went his deepest seven in the thirds Innings against the Guardians he's locked in and he's proven to be a number two or three starter and with glass now Yoto and flare you have three Frontline starting pitchers that can win you a World Series they're that good and he's that good oh but they're not done yet Michael copek has been the best reliever that was traded at the deadline as well Michael Copeg has been an elite reliever since he put on Dodger blue he's posted a one R A 1 n FIP in 18 games 18 Innings of work yesterday he had the walk issues but you see the stuff pumping gas 102.6 m per hour fast ball the fastest fast ball by any Dodger in 15 years since Jonathan Brockton threw over 103 back in 2009 so you got flarity you got Edmund you got Copeg a starting pitcher that's going to help you in the postseason a reliever that's Elite that's going to get High leverage opportunities in the postseason that has that plus stuff that plays up in October and then Tommy Edmund a versatile Gold Glove winning utility man that took over your center field spot that can also play a premium position in shorts out and be an above average bat oh wait there's more you got Kevin kerm for Ryan yarro and Kevin km looks like he's going to make this postseason roster he has Elite glove ability he's an elite defender in my opinion he's the best center fielder I've ever seen put on a Dodger uniform and he's going to help this team in late game substitutions imagine if the Dodgers are up 3-2 imagine if the Dodgers up three to2 once the ninth inning and you've got Miguel roas head short you got Tommy Edmond you got Michael copek on the mound you got Kevin kerm in Center Mookie Betts in right field I think you could do something where you could even move Edmund to left and Kier Meyer to center field right could move Edmund to Third and Max M's off the diamond imagine that defense that the Dodgers have late in games after you have a lead so credit to Andrew fredman he's got the white robe on he's sipping the water bottle I always say about Andrew fredman he only speaks when it's time to say Checkmate and he certainly said checkmate at the deadline the Dodgers have won the deadline but let me know Down Below in the comments section at this point what grade you give the Dodgers at the deadline I look at the players that were dealt and how they're helping their teams the Dodgers A+ A+ at this point I certainly believe that because also who'd you give up I know my Miguel my boy Miguel Vargas he needs a hug he needs a hug in in Chicago but I mean you really did not give up anything that's going to hurt you long term we got a Super Chat 199 from Cody seital Miller should be a ct3 BP pitcher to ct3 can be clutch we got Baseline band 199 dang It Bobby I tell you what I got it I like look King of the Hill reference Bobby hey Bobby some BR pain and propane accessories uh we got uh man used to love that show back in the day Fox was killing it used to watch that Malcolm the middle uh tyo Sano $5 Super Chat Otani bets Freeman Teo Edmond Smith Mony Roos equals ring yeah Teo I look fire going to give you a little let's go Dodgers for that 100% And that's the death lineup that's the death lineup 100% right there Martin Enrique RS a $20 Super Chat appreciate you Martin Will Smith Dodger Dog of the game yesterday yeah Will Smith was fantastic and it's great to see that version of Will Smith and I talked to him after the game and I didn't ask him about the Home Run I asked him about throwing the bad throwing the runner out and how that's such a big part of his game it was such a points of emphasis in the off season and that was the I mean the ninth inning there you had copc on the mountain who I just was uh singing his Praises I know I get criticized about the quote word glazing I guess I was glazing over copc right but didn't have his best appearance yesterday he walked wson he walked Suzuki he walked Bellinger to load the bases but the key moment of the game it's a 10 to S game at that point it's a 10 to S game at that point and the Cubs the way they've been hitting the baseball and scoring runs you could have seen them coming back in this one well that's when Will Smith caught Suzuki stealing at third he caught him stealing at third and that was a big out that was a key out in the game he leads the league with 31 caught steings in baseball and I was talking to Will Smith about this after the game and he told me that he takes a lot of pride in that and that that was one of the point of emphasis for him one of the points of emphasis for him in the offseason was trying to get better at every single part of being a catcher behind the dish and yes the offense is going to come and go yes he has had a down couple of months there is no doubt about that but he's improved a lot as a Game caller he's improved a lot with his throwing and his pop time I think blocking balls he's always trying to improve on that but that's the Will Smith we want to see that's the 140 million doll man right there a guy that is additive and plus defensively but also can swing the big stick goes two for five and hits a home run and that's uh that's huge that's huge for its confidence because it's been a process and look we're going to look back at Will Smith and say he's had 20 plus home runs he had 18 home runs on the year in a down year so I love this from Max Montes says America's catcher Miller the type of guy to say yikes when he gives up a homer Jeremy H come on now come on now I love me some Bobby Miller telling you Bobby Miller comes on the show and he probably pitch a perfect game next start it's the Dodgers Dugout Karma we got uh dmac only problem with the deadline is not getting Bellinger this team needs belly or stto to be a dynasty Team JM look respectfully you know I'm a belly ever don't stop belly evening right always love me from Cody Bellinger but I disagree with you because that would have put you in a tough spot with his contract status well one he didn't get dealt but Bellinger contract he signed a threeyear $80 million deal he's he can opt out after every year but if he opts in that uh kind of ties the Dodgers hand they want to do that I be stroken what up dmac what up Dodgers fam happy thirsty Thursday when will we see Edgardo henriquez Joseph hey we'll see we'll see I'm actually going to try to get him on the show I was talking to him as well so that'd be cool to have him on the show that 10 mile per hour heater it feels like obviously what up dmac what up Will belly had a 162 batting average look the thing about Cody Bellinger is look sometimes like I always say if you go to McDonald's and you get the french fries and you're in the Drive-Thru and you're kind of eating them they taste delicious they taste amazing but you take those home like an hour later they don't taste as great and then if you microwave them the next day they taste terrible you don't want to microwave the McDonald's french fries you don't want to do that you don't want to go back there right sometimes you just have to let it go right it's not going to be the same everyone thinks it's going to be the same Bellinger of 2019 that Bellinger hasn't walked through the door since where he's hitting 47 home runs by the way Switching gears here sh Otani doing sh Otani things once again Shohei Ohtani inching closer to 50-50 season and he starts the day for the Dodgers with a home run Elite off shot for Otani his 47th of the Season torches one to right center field he's carrying the back and it's a bullet out of here and it's home run number 47 for the Big Show oh he lights up this crowd it is a two to one score now Otani is at 47 home runs show hey Otani we are not worthy it's just night after night at bat after at bat you can't miss it at bat you can't miss him when he's on base he's on Pace for 52 home runs and 52 Steals on the season right now there's a 61.3% chance that he becomes the first 5050 player in Major League Baseball history and by hitting a home run and stealing a base he's just one game shy to tying Ricky Henderson for the most games in the season with a home run and a stolen base in the same game Ricky Henderson with 13 sh Otani with 12 so we could see that this weekend by the way that 1986 season for Ricky Henderson was pretty crazy 28 home runs and 87 stolen bases so Ricky Henderson was different he was different but sh Otani has been fantastic on the base pass he's hitting deep balls and I asked Dave Roberts after the game is this going to be the version of shotani we're going to see because I don't think it is I think this is enjoy this enjoy this for just this year I think this is going to be the only year we're going to see this version of sh Otani I'm not talking about the home runs which by the way yesterday was a new career high for shotani 47 home runs a new career high that TI Cody Bellinger for the third most in Dodgers history but as far as the stolen bases go let's not forget he is an ace level pitcher he's going to go back to that next season and you're not going to see him be as aggressive on the base pass so I asked Dave Roberts about that are we going to see this version of Show he Otani in the future and here's what Dave had to say he's now pay for 52 Stone bases which would be double his previous career high is this who you expect him to be just like moving forward now that he knows he can do this uh I don't know he's not year so I think that he's emptying the tank in the sense of offensively and um I do think that with the the power the on the on base the average I think he can do that as a pitcher he's done something like that um with his Ops pretty similar um but as far as the stolen bases I'm not sure about that one the way he's going right now probably not I think uh those fans in Miami uh might be in for treat so but we'll see I mean obviously I hope he does it regardless of where but it would be nice to be at home do tickets thanks so yeah it would be great to see him do it at home is that going to happen hopefully it doesn't because I want joy ton to get this record out of the way but I hear people out there that are trying to discredit this they're trying to discredit this because of the bigger bases because of the dis engagement rules the truth of the matter is is he's a great base dealer he's a great base dealer and we've seen that this season and every time he hits a home run every time he steals a base it's the first time that's ever happened think about this the most home runs in a season and stolen bases combined when you look at what's the most stolen bases you've ever had in a 50 home run season think about this in the history of the game the most stolen bases in a 50 home run season sh oton is on the precipice of going 50/50 what's the most stolen bases before that in a 50 home run season it was 24 24 think about that Willie Mays had 51 home runs and 24 stolen bases in 1955 and then outside of that you also have Alex Rodriguez Alex Rodriguez the most ever home runs to stolen bases combination A-Rod had 54 home runs and 24 stolen bases in 2007 Otani is going to have more than double as many stolen bases as any player to hit 50 home runs to these Mets fans to these Otani haters that are trying to spark some debate about the MVP I'm here to tell you it's a 100% lock sh Otani is going to I think unanimously win League MVP and it won't be the first time that he's done that and here's the first ready for this show sh Otani is going to be the first player in big league history to win the MVP as a DH he's going to be the first player in baseball history to win an MVP it since Frank Robinson in both leagues the national league and the American League and the beauty of all this is I think Shi Otani the player is more concerned about the World Series more concerned about the World Series and find a way to play in the postseason let's not forget it's the first time that he's played meaningful baseball this late into the season so yeah I just don't see it now as far as the pitching next season he's been doing bullpens and everything's going right from that standpoint and look the Dodgers could need another Ace because you can never have enough starting pitching but as far as kind of going back I see people asking about the postseason roster season the postseason roster okay go blow IE go Blue IE dmac give yourself a hot tag hit that fire button what up go Blue give me a little fire take that's right back at you note every baseball record show is coming for you I like that that's a fire take where's my BR no one say out of pocket here but we got not to every B not oh yeah we got uh some super chats Dylan McKay 499 Steven Nelson needs to be option to radio and call Char Charlie Steiner Charlie Steiner has been doing the back injury I love Steven Nelson I like Steven Nelson he does his thing we got Rebecca Michelle David Tommy Edmond is hot now but will he be hot in the playoffs I mean that's the million dollar question for all of these guys I mean you look at Freddy Freeman and mookie bets combined to go for 23 and they both put up MVP Seasons last year until you get there until you see it you have to hope that you can catch Lighting in a bottle for That season but yeah I mean would it be would it be kind of a downer if he got the record in Miami let me ask you uh Tony taters would it be a little bit of down that' be kind of cool it' be it'd be great for Miami to have a sellout crowd for once it'd be cool I mean they got traded to the World Baseball classicc couple couple year two years ago now so why not Miami's cool and I know and the Gang would probably have a nice little after party after on the Strip right yeah absolutely how about you uh Serena I mean any any bit of a buzz kill to see him not get the 5050 at Dodger Stadium I mean I'd love to see it here at home but I just want to see him get it exactly and Miami is a place to have a party so might party over there no 100% hit up South Beach after you know bring decoy I mean it' be a great night no matter what they do just you had to see him get I just want to see him get it sooner than later so he's not pressing late in the season so get it on this road trip you know get it in Atlanta get it in Miami so I totally agree with both of you guys that definitely has to be the plan Miami be cool because like I said Miami their fans come painted as seats if you know what I'm saying right so to give them uh some fans in the stand would be pretty cool in of itself The current state of LA's postseason rotation people asking me about the postseason rotation look in just a snippet of that Dave was talking about it yesterday I mean I mean the postseason rotation game four is such a important start because if you're at that stage of the series there's a good chance that you don't have every single reliever available a lot of your relievers have pitched meaningful stressful Innings at that point there's a pretty decent chance that that's the case so you definitely need some length out of your number four starter and we know the top three of locks the Dodgers postseason rotation today when Tyler glass now gets healthy Tyler glass now is the Ace he's getting the ball in game one Yoshi no buyo is getting the ball in game two Jack flarity for game three then game four it's a mixture of Gavin Stone if he's healthy I think has the best chance to take the ball can Clayton Kershaw get back with enough time to get some starts to be in consideration for that but the guy right now who's actually healthy is Walker ber and I know this has been an up and down year for Walker beer but when you compare him to Bobby Miller the stuff's better the trend for him is definitely more in the right direction as far as how the stuff is playing the knuckle curve is nasty when he has the feel for it the fastball command is still better even though the velocity isn't as high as Bobby Miller and also there's the postseason experience there's the postseason experience there is something to be said about experience and having been in those situations before in 2021 Walker beer pitched on short rest twice okay maybe owe him something for that so for him to get that opportunity it's it's there and then let's not forget Landon a if we're looking at just the way the ball's coming out I mean if Landon KN pitches well in his opportunities and Walker beer doesn't clay Kershaw's not at 100% you don't get Gavin Stone Back Bobby Miller is not going to factor in at this point I don't see why not I don't see why not with landed neck I think ultimately it comes down to Gavin Stone and Walker bu but may the best pitcher win and this is a performance-based business it's a meritocracy right we're not worried about what you did for us in the past it's what can you do for us in the future like Vince skull used to say baseball is the what have you done for me lately Sport and whoever's pitching the best lately should get the ball in game four now some more news Joe Kelly Joe Kelly everyone loves Joe Kelly man Joe Kelly iconic Dodger really I know people give him a hard time the pouty face you know is still what I remember and sure he did hit Handley and that definitely probably cost the Dodgers the World Series that year IM if Hanley was you know Hanley didn't want to take injections right that was the big thing he didn't want to get shot up for the pain cuz he was scared of needles imagine if Hanley Ramirez got shot up and people forget how good that Hanley Ramirez was that whole team was good H I'm I'm I'm fighting fighting the urge to uh go on a tangent about that uh that year but Joseph William Kelly Jr is set to start his rehab assignment with triple A Oklahoma City on Thursday so last we saw Joe Kelly was on August 30th he went one and two3 innings and it was a relief situation where he wasn't expected to be in the game this early it was the game where Klay and Kershaw left with the bone spur in his toe and Joe Kelly pitched 46 pitches that was the most pitches he had thrown since 2016 when he was still a starting pitcher but Dave Roberts told us yesterday that Joe Kelly is going to pitch for Oklahoma City on Thursday and then again on Sunday before rejoining the Dodgers on their road trip so a couple of rehab starts and Dave Roberts also said he's going to be activated off the iil when the Dodgers are in Miami so Joe Kelly in Miami by the way I heard that Joe Kelly and Otani are like really good friends like they're like that Joe Kelly is one of his best friends on the team so that's pretty cool that's a reason alone to have them up there keep Otani happy but yeah look I know people are down Joe Kelly I know it understandably so the expected stuff isn't as good as it was like last season when the El rate was high with the white socks but the expected stuff was really good with the white socks he was striking out a ton of batters more than he ever had in his career this year the strikeout number is down his K per nine last season with the White Sox and the Dodgers it was 13.73 that K per nine is down to 9.76 but I will say the bad pip is really high opponent in 351 that's the batting average on balls in play the Home Run balls also cost him as well last year he had a 69 home runs per nine nice and then a 13 home runs per nine this season and the ra this year has gone from 412 to 520 and the expected E is at 496 but the reason why I still believe in Joe Kelly is one like there's not a lot of pitchers coming out of the bullpen when they're on that are as just talented as him I mean I think clay Kershaw called him a freak with the fact that I mean he's not a big guy I mean around 6 feet tall doesn't weigh a ton 174 PBS but he just continues to throw harder he's still in the 90th percentile in fastball velocity at 98.3 miles hour and the stuff the spin is still above average and the horizontal break is still well above average he has a 6 in more than average he has a 9.9 inches of horizontal break on his slider that's Elite horizontal break on his slider and the rest of the stuff moves like a military family too so I'm not out on Joe Kelly I still think that you got nine relievers potentially in the postseason depending on what you do with the additional starting pitch you want to add and do you do you have a ber and Gavin Stone both on the roster and one guy you kind of using short burst situations and multi- innings relief you could possibly go that route but Joe Kelly is still a weapon BC says five plus ER reliever he's a five plus ra relever now but game one of the postseason his ra is 0.0 so I mean that's kind of The Upside play and I'm you know I always say when it comes to Dodgers don't listen to what they say watch what they do and what they do is favor High upside stuff in the postseason that's why hey give me Edgardo henriquez let me see as many 103 fast balls as we can BR bruar graterol I mean bruar graterol is back and he's looks healthy so that's definitely another plus another guy that you can add of this Bullpen that's a weapon Ryan brazer has pitched well since he's been off the I Blake Tran looks good lately Evan Phillips has gotten it together Michael copc has been Elite since he's been a Dodger so the bullpen in a good place Alex vesia Anthony Bond unfortunately broke his hand in a moment of frustration so there's that now before we end the show definitely want to talk about this so Jorge Castillo of ESPN used to cover the Dodgers for the LA Times he's linked Juan sto to the Dodgers he's linked Juan stto to the Dodgers and for months now we've heard that it's going to be a New York verse New York bidding war for Juan stto Mets or the Yankees who going to pay more that's who was going to get his Services I've heard to not necessarily count out the the Dodgers the Phillies other teams possibly the truth of the matter is though is there's only a couple of teams a handful of teams that can that can afford Wan sto only a couple of sharks swimming in those Waters that can afford a Wan stto level contract are the Dodgers one of them certainly are the Phillies one of them sure do the Yankees and the Mets have the best chance I still think they do and look a lot of people are going to link him to the Dodgers a lot of people are just because it's the Dodgers people click on it when it's La people read it Dodgers linked to Juan Soto free agency rumors when they're attached to Sho Otani I will say though Juan sto did say at the All-Star Game that there was one player he wanted to play with it'd be sh Otani well I got news for you sh Otani is not going to be playing for any other team for the rest of his career he's found his home in Los Angeles with the Dodgers so if you want to play with SH Otani you better sign with the Dodgers and Jorge Castillo also threw out some other teams as well he threw out the Cubs as a potential team the Boston Sox and the Philadelphia Phillies so is that realistic is that agent Scott Boris trying to maximize his clients's value I think there's that the question is though would wotto take any deferred money I don't think he would I think that he wants between he wants he wants sh Otani money as far as aav goes I don't think he is I don't think show I don't think Juan sto is going to get $46 million a year aav I just don't think that because sh Otani could pitch and outside of Aaron judge he's the most dangerous hitter in baseball now Juan stto he's at the table he's certainly at the table with Aaron judge and Shi Otani but to get Shi money you got to do be extra special as far as what you do at the gate what you do at jerseys Sals right wot is incredibly popular don't get me wrong and he's going to sell jerseys and people are going to come see him he's this generation's Ted Williams as far as bat to ball as far as his on base and how he sees pitches coming out of pitcher hands he's absolutely Elite from that standpoint but I think that ultimately he's going to sign between 450 and 500 million he's not going to maybe 525 maybe 525 depending on how much you stretch it but the reason why I think that you're going to see so many teams I the reason why the Mets make a lot of sense to me is because he's 25 years old he turns 26 in October turns 26 in October believe it or not he's a baby man he feels like he's been in the league for like 20 years right Tony taters feels like he's been in the league for for for 20 years but it's not the case but maybe you could see I could see 525 for 13 years I'm just going to call my shot right now I think he gets 525 for 13 years and that would put his a maybe even 526 maybe five or let yeah maybe like 526 for 13 years that puts his aav at $40 million per season so I mean if he wants a $41 million aav something from that I mean you had to sign for 533 so you know what how about this I'm going to do my guess again ultimately maybe 13 years 533 million you have the additional years to get the overall money and he's got his bag and I think the reason why it makes sense for the Mets is you don't necessarily need him to contend this season right I mean if you bring in Juan soda when he's 26 you've got six possibly seven prime years of him left to extend your Championship window and I think he ultimately probably favors the East Coast I think you look at the Nationals are a wild card team Mark fand of mlb.com he threw out the Nationals as a possible team with their young core and he did turn down a deal with the Nationals before they traded him to the San Diego Padres but if he's on the East Coast he's closer to the Dominican Republic if he's in New York he's closer to the Dr but if the Dodgers said you know what we want to pay the luxury tax for the next decade plus we're fine with that because of how much money we're making with SH Otani well maybe they do that cuz sh Donnie he deferred 97% of his contract to surround himself with the best Stars if you would sign Juan stto this would be the best baseball team on paper in the history of the sport there's no doubt about it I mean Otani Betts Freeman stto they'd be bigger than the Beatles they'd be the Beatles of baseball if you brought in Juan sto now I think there's other factors like you definitely need another outfielder you definitely need another Outfield I think mooki stays in right field I think mooki stays in right field unless he goes to Second and you try Lux again at short and Tommy Edmund is back for next season so he'll be in center field and then in left field you have your top prospect in Dalton rushing who should get an opportunity and then Andy pz and you still have Chris Taylor for one more year so you could have them in left but if you really wanted to just blow up baseball and you wanted to just go super let's collect every single Walk-off shots Superstar infinity stone that we can right remember they didn't be they beat Thanos because they had to go back in time to do it right let's be honest about that right if they wanted to really get the last big infinity stone and go get Juan stto they have the financial means to do it there is no salary cap it's just a matter of paying the luxury tax and we'll do a deep dive into where the Dodgers stand financially probably next show if you guys want but the truth is if they wanted to spend big they could me personally I think you need to address shortstop and you have Willie adamus out there he could probably get him for $150 million and we'll see think about this though think about this if you were to get a Roki Sasaki right a who I've been calling I've been dubbing the Dodgers Paul skin right if you were able to get a Roki Sasaki then I think you you could basically look at that as we're saving two $300 million we're saving $2 to $300 million so you can almost view that as getting Juan stto for $2 200 plus million dollar I mean just a way of framing it just a way of framing it so you could always add more starting pitching I think Jack Flair is a guy that you could could consider bringing back I think that you got to address shortstop at some point but uh yeah I mean it's fun to think about and that's why I kind of saved it for the end of the show because I'm not saying this is happening I'm not giving this five Dodger Dogs in a melada right it's just the truth is a very credible Insider in Jorge Castillo has linked him to the Dodgers and we're GNA get Bob n on the show next week and we'll talk about this but last comment here we got Oscar Torres 199 for the torto fund appreciate that I'm going to have one for lunch I like that Johnny says delusional not a Marvel comic I like that myself a bro for that hey let me dream come on now let me dream a little bit at the I'm not even saying I would want that to be honest you I think the fact that I I would spread that money elsewhere I just uh give it out there Willie Damas is second base I wouldn't give him a contract longer than five years I think that could be a discussion about all Short Stops for sure Tao just needs to work on play discipline can bring back ta2 for sure I serf says l i I'll stuff myself with three Toros if we get SoDo the Bro hungry guy man starving starving uh sign Teo adamus Roki and flarity I like that from David who would you rather the Dodgers resign flarity or taao really good question maybe I'll see it for next show did let show ask me at the end of the season right now it depends because I do love me some Tao and he mashes lefties better than just about anyone in baseball he's a great fit on this team but starting pitching is starting pitching I I think that they can find flarity like production from someone else but still that's going to do it though guys
