for you the fans everyone a part of clipper Nation could you speak about the importance of having your own home outside of purple and gold shadow um so when I I acquired the the team I I was very delighted that I wouldn't have to build an arena no seriously it's like a it was like Wow cuz every other team I had looked at at any time whether it was Seattle for a while and sac maybe moving to Seattle which of course the league said we couldn't do whether it was Milwaukee they all needed Arenas because that is a time at which teams might sell and I said this is great I I got a team it's an LA and I don't need to build an arena all good 6 months later we got to build an arena we got to build a place that's our house we got to put the energy in our house we we don't want to play too many Monday nights against Monday Night Football we don't want to play as many Saturday games we don't we don't want to have to cover up banners of other guys in order for it to at least feel marginally like our house it's got to be our house took me six months and I went from oh we don't have to build one to oh we're going to build one and luckily my partner who guy I went to college with he he's in the real estate business he said we can do this we can and he was pushing me to build an arena so we started the process looking around for land and at first you know it was should we be downtown there advantages to being downtown I mean there were some spots not immediately adjacent to Staples but uh sorry to crypto but down in that area and we looked and we couldn't quite make it make sense and then we started looking on the west side and it's kind of like knock knock who is home of course the best place is to be right across from Sofi the infrastructure the energy the excitement will all get built out in one place and once that became clear because you can't even really think about building an arena unless you can find a piece of land where you can put one so we we had a we had an notion we wanted to build a house we found a place to build the house and then we just had to build a house that had our our sort of personal impr premature as the Clippers and um some of you aren't old enough that there used to be a classic TV commercial that ran about Avis renar and the commercial is we're Avis we're number two but we try harder and you know just given we we have no championships we don't and we are going to try harder we're going to work harder we're going to put do what we can in every way shape and form uh for our fans and for our team you we see all this part but our players come to work every day in that part of the building so we also wanted to make sure that was Superior it was our house it's also for our fans it's our house and for our players guess what it is it's their office it's not just Gillian's offices that are here you know the offices may look like a weight room and set of basketball courts and a locker room and a players's dining area a Players Lounge and uh sauna W cold blah you get the you get the idea but it had to be a a great home for everything we needed to get done [Music]
