hello I'm Anne cleaves the author of the dark wives the new Vera novel as well as the Shetland and the Matthew ven books here I am in my home county of North umberland and I'd like to talk a bit about how Place feeds very much into my stories my daughter's an academic a human geographer her research is all about the individual within their community and within landscape and I think that's what I do a bit too I'm very interested in how the individual fits into the place where they grow grew up I think we are all a product of the views that we saw from our windows and the children that we played with I can't imagine Vera having been born anywhere else but the North umberland Hills with those long views ver has a Long View metaphorically but also in reality North umberland is very easy place to write crime fiction about because there's such a wide pallet of settings there are the beautiful beaches and Hills that we've all seen on our screens during the filming of of the TV show but there are also very interesting Market towns and an even more interesting po industrial landscape small communities where they used to be mines and they're not anymore and where we used to build ships and we don't do that anymore either and I love having that breadth of background to look into this is my home and I love it and I wouldn't want to write about anywhere that I did love or know very well I hope you found this extra information interesting and I hope you read the book and enjoy it
