it's about time the Boston Red Sox did [Applause] something what is going on everybody welcome back to red seat radio my name is Corbin and when trisen Casas went down last week and after we learned that he's going to be out for a pretty long period of time here there was a massive hole left on the infield for the Boston Red Sox now Bobby dobeck did his best to cover up that hole defensively and he did do a pretty good job but offensively Bobby dobeck might have Honestly made that hole a little bit bigger with the way that he was hitting for a couple of days now we've been begging the boss and Red Sox to go outside the organization take advantage of an opportunity and help this team get to a better place and that's exactly what they did it sounds like they finally listened to us so what we are going to do in today's vide is we're going to break this trade down a little bit we are going to talk about who got acquired how they got Acquired and what their impact on the 2024 Red Sox is going to look like but before we get into that do me a favor if you haven't already make sure you guys have hit that subscribe button we talk Red Soxs content almost every single day also make sure app and look up red seat radio thank you all very much for clicking on this one let's get into it okay so for those of you who have not seen the news yet just a couple of hours ago it was announced that the Boston Red Sox had traded for former Cub first baseman Garrick Cooper now in my opinion there are a lot of really cool things about this trade the first one being in order to get gar Cooper to the Boston Red Sox all they had to give up was cash and in any deal that's absolutely fantastic but for a player who is going to have the impact he's going to have on what this team needs right now it feels almost impossible that they were able to get him for just cash it feels like absolute highway robbery now obviously the Cubs didn't really need Cooper obviously they were probably going to let him go on waivers anyway so this is saving them a ton of money so they're benefiting from this as well with how far the Red Sox backs were up against the wall it's pretty impressive they were able to get this deal done for just cash so that's the first really cool thing about this the second really cool thing about trade is that it was done in person that usually doesn't happen too much anymore in Major League Baseball a lot of it's done over the phone or over Zoom or whatever this one took place at Fenway Park during a game Jed Hoyer came to Fenway with the Cubs and he sat down with Craig brlo and Company and got this deal done I don't know why in my head I have this like dramatic movie scene of two friends who had who had been in the same organization for so la together death staring each other across a table now opponents it probably wasn't as cool as that was and it probably wasn't exactly a cinematic moment but it is still a cool little tidbit about this trade that I just wanted to include here because it doesn't really happen anymore and it adds to the uniqueness of this garri Cooper deal the third reason this is really cool and honestly the most important reason this trade is really cool is because of what garri Cooper can do for the Boston Red Sox we made a video earlier this week talking about how garri Cooper can help solve the Red Sox biggest problem and it's in a couple of different ways the first way he can really help this team improve going forward is with his Bat he's an above average bat from the right hand side and throughout his career he has a 268 average a 337 on base percentage and a 435 slug which is good for a 109 Ops plus this really helps lengthen this lineup up a bit that really feels like it just dies after getting through it six-man in this lineup right now right because you look at yesterday's lineup and the top six guys in it had positive averages were being prod Ive at the plate but the bottom three guys of this lineup had below a 200 average and some of them really Bobby dobeck had a below 100 average right there was just no production coming from the bottom half of this order and with Garrick Cooper in the mix now you're going to be able to bump guys down or even put him towards the bottom of this lineup and get some production from that piece we talked about it in yesterday's video as well the Red Sox weren't clutch in the guardian series and a lot of that had to do with the fact the top guys of this order we getting on base and the bottom guys just weren't able to drive them in gar Cooper might not completely transform this offense but it's going to help lengthen It And Get These Guys across the plate just a little bit more and that's going to be really important the other thing too is that GAR Cooper can go yard a bit he's not exactly a super Slugger or anything but he did have 17 Jacks last year and righties at Fenway do tend to get a bit of a power boost just because of that monster that'll immediately take some weight off of Tyler O'Neal's and right now Connor Wong who's on fire shoulder and give the Red Sox a bit more power overall which is absolutely fantastic considering already so far this season they've lost two of their biggest power threats one of them is going to be out for a pretty long period of time the other one is going to be out for the entire season so getting a little bit of that power production back is going to be really important he's also a pretty solid Defender I don't think it's really going to be Gold Glove defense or anything but it is above average in his career he has three defensive runs saved at first base so not only does this give the Red Sox a bit more consistency at the plate you also weren't losing anything defensively on the field as well which we all know is extremely vital for this team like I said Bobby dobeck has been a big reason why the defense for the Red Sox and as I'm talking right now Emanuel Valdez just made what should have been an error but was ruled as a single but over the past road trip they were looking a lot better at least before last night and today and Bobby doic was a big part of that so being able to replace him with someone who's going to be more more productive at the plate and about the same amount of productive at first base is going to be really really crucial there is one more thing that I find really awesome about what the Red Sox did did in this trade right here and it's that it's showing that the Red Sox front office specifically Craig breslo isn't afraid to go out there take advantage of an opportunity that was knocking on their doorstep and improve a part of this team that desperately needed it Midway through the season it felt like for a little bit especially at the beginning of the year where we were watching injury after injury and we were saying oh man I wonder if there's anything this front office can do to supplement these losses for a while it felt like this front office was just saying oh man that really sucks well good luck we'll see you in 2025 right it felt like they were complacent watching this team go down and try to force some of this depth to be an everyday player and there's still a lot of that going on on the Red Sox don't get me wrong but this is a little bit of glimmer of hope this is a breath of fresh air as well what it is and what it most importantly does in my opinion is it shows that this front office specifically is at least a little bit more committed to this team being successful than we've been originally thinking for a long time now really after the offseason ended we just sort of assumed the Red Sox were done with 2024 they're not even looking at 2024 they are strictly looking at 2025 and Beyond and while they are still probably mostly focused on 2025 and Beyond seeing them go out there and fix a problem on the 2024 Red Sox does give us a little bit of hope that they do care about this team and if this team is successful coming into the deadline maybe they'll get even more reinforcements by then this really kind of gives us again a little bit of a fresh air not only for us as fans who I can't even remember the last time there was an injury during a season like this for the Boston Red Sox and the front office went out and solved it not fully solved it right you're never going to replace trist and casus but did something to shrink that hole was it the 2021 deadline maybe where they got a guy like Kyle schwarber to supplement some of the power loss you had in your lineup maybe right even then that's still a little questionable I can't really remember 2022 probably not 23 all you got was Luis uras so no not there either it's been a little bit since the Red Sox did something like this and it's really it's again it's a breath of fresh air for us but as players too it's got to be a bre breath of fresh air for them as well all they've seen this season is guys continuously go down go down go down they've had to have this sort of next man up mentality and then they're sitting there and they're saying okay yeah great but what about your part in all of this you can help this team and you haven't now they've helped the team hopefully gives them a little jolt of Life hopefully it allows them to say yeah okay my employer cares about what we're doing right now right here it could give him a little bit of spark and I absolutely love that about this deal as well there are a lot of things to really like here again this deal to me is sort of the perfect match for the Red Sox we knew it was a perfect match before they made this trade and after they made this trade especially for cash considerations is a really really awesome deal I absolutely think the Boston Red Sox won this trade now I don't know what we'll see from Garett Cooper once he gets here I'm not expecting him to totally change the course of the Red Sox 2024 season what I'm expecting him to do is allow Alex K and the rest of the players on this team to take that massive hole that had been sitting there at first base since Tristan cus went down and really in the lineup as well and Shrink that down to a more manageable size get them back to close to what they were before trist and casus went down and that could be a really really effective thing the other part in this is that he's not on the 40 man roster which means we are going to have to see a supplemental move which will probably come in the next couple of hours or so if it does I will make sure to pin it in the comment section down below if it comes tomorrow I'll probably just put it in our series recap at on Monday depending on who it is and what the severity of it and how the impact looks we'll get we'll talk about that at another point but that's an entirely separate video so until that happens let me know in the comment section down below what do you think about this what do you think about the Red Sox trading for Garrick Cooper do you like the package do you like the player do you think it's a positive are you agreeing with me about all sort of the cool unique parts of this trade and does this give you hope for who the Red Sox could be let me know all your thoughts on the latest Red Sox trade in the comment section down below as always if you made it to the end of this video do me a favor make sure you guys if hit that subscribe button if you haven't already if you're new here we talk Red Sox content almost every single day also make sure you guys to hit the like button on this video as well just helps these videos out of ton and it would mean a lot to me thank you all very much for clicking on this one and I will see you in the red seats [Music]
