Robert Borsak MLC: Budget Estimates August '24: The Premier - Compensation for Kathleen Folbigg

[Music] thank you Premier we now turn to questions from the crossbench beginning with Mr borac Mr borac thank you uh chair thanks Premier just on a completely different night in dealing with New South Wales um in June 20123 your government quickly recommended the to the governor that Kathleen fig be released from prison and give an unconditional pardon uh on the 24th of July this year she submitted a claim for compensation can you tell me where is the government up to in consideration of Miss Fig's entitlement to payment for her 20 years of wrongful imprisonment is it okay Mr borac if I ask uh uh M Boyd to answer that give some information hi Mr BAC um we understand the claim is being considered by the department of communities and Justice and that the attorne will be the minister responsible for considering that excr claim for compensation and that that is underway so the government's actively considering it at the moment yes uh have you yourself seen the claim Mr Premier I haven't you haven't okay well would you consider having a look at it if requested yes I I think this is very important because I caught up with her yesterday and she literally has no means of support she does need to get some compensation and I think it's they've asked twice to to the uh the DCS as late as the 24th of July uh for progress and and they're getting no response whatsoever well it seems eminently reasonable and of course I'll do that um find out where it's up to and and understand uh what the circumstances are that have resulted in a delay thank you thank you [Music]
