every single year there's a there's a professional Hunter who is gored by an injured Kate Buffalo knowing the situation and just knowing how important this animal was I knew that I had to do whatever means were necessary when it came to really returning home to our kids so we knew that we were going on this trip in January and then we didn't leave until the end of May and pretty much every single day I in some way had the reminder that we would be away from them for 35 days what's this going to do to them in the long run like are they going to absolutely hate us when we come back it it really was difficult to focus on getting ready for the trip just having that looming feeling in my head of having to leave my kids for you know 5 weeks okay we got the laundry away hi what are you doing what are you doing so every morning around here there's a lot to do between the kids and work my personal self-care morning routine all the animals that we've got here and then as soon as Dean wakes up he's always first to wake up it's Hands-On 100% mom mode [Music] [Applause] hi buddy what was that could something happen while we were gone yes of course could something happen to us while we were over there yes of course we are hunting big dangerous game and we knew the risks that we were assuming leaving and going and hunting these big animals and potentially not returning home to our kids the training leading up to this trip was insane it was the hardest I've ever pushed myself in terms of you know my workouts my recovery just overall diet because like I said we are hunting big game Josh wanted me up to 70 pounds for this trip so I did have a 70 lb bow and I had a 75lb bow So Not only was I preparing you know my cardio for these long these long hikes you put yourself in these scenarios because we like I said we have been blessed to be there before and so we kind of knew what to expect and how to train for it so my training completely changed you know we're working more on those stability muscles we're working on the tiny muscles working on the cardiovascular health we're working on the strengths there was a lot of different things that were going into play outside of you know the typical aesthetic bodybuilding workouts that I do and on top of going to Africa 3 days prior I was also prepping for a photo shoot with the company that I work with because we were we were filming and getting content for a billboard that was going up in Time Square so we left on a Tuesday I had my photo shoot in Tampa on a Saturday so I was a mess when my mom took the kids your life is walking away from you it was definitely very difficult to say goodbye to them just knowing how long we were going to be apart h [Music] we went to this Outfitter in South Africa for the green hunt on our Rhino there were a lot of Planes game that were on the list however k Buffalo just wasn't because we had a few tags in Tanzania that we were going to use for cap buffalo hunting when we SP this cap Buffalo one I'm freaking out two I think I was freaking out more because Donnie was freaking out so much over the size of this k Buffalo yes Josh and I are very competitive people and when Donnie told me that it was bigger than any k Buffalo he ever shot it was kind of like okay maybe we talk about this because it like I said it wasn't originally on my list for the Kalahari but as soon as we saw how big this k Buffalo was it was like it was kind of a no-brainer on on going after it so wide yeah he's a he's a beast can you drive forward to the mountain go you see that small Mountain that yeah we want to come from the side like this okay we don't want to walk in there but we want to come from front Okay because in they going to stop there in theing always okay so want to drive like this and then we come from the because now the window is so once Josh and I decided that this was a bulll that we were going to ultimately hunt it was game on so we put on a stock it was a great stock we had him in a perfect position and unfortunately I think they got spooked by a kudu we looked for hours and hours there was so much driving time and so for me you know we had all these failed stocks we had all this time on the truck just trying to find the herd trying to get a game plan when you're hunting something such as a k Buffalo or you know any of these dangerous animals specifically in Africa just trying to locate this herd all day we finally had an opportunity right at last Light and we were able to stock they were kind of in this like Bowl essentially we were able to get a almost right up on top of them there was a hill and this was a smallish Hill that we were able to keep ourselves hidden from them until we crested that hill and I was able to draw my bow in the CH in the CH as you can see right as I shot he turned and my Beast broad hit him Square in the shoulder but if we zoom in even with only shooting 70 lb and a 450 Green Arrow it appears I got deep enough to get through the shoulder and into the cavity which is exactly where his heart sits so we rush back to the the truck to try and cut off the herd just in case I miss the heart but we only drove about 200 Y and one of The Trackers spotted my Buffalo bed down it was obvious the Beast must have nicked his heart so we hopped off the truck and cautiously snuck into 40 yards where I was able to get two more arrows into this Buffalo okay despite being a seasoned Hunter this moment was very emotional for me witnessing an animal take its final breath has always and will always we heavy on my [Music] heart so as soon as we knew he was down for good we radioed Josh and their vehicle and they were able to come over extremely fast which was great luckily our Outfitter had an amazing team of people that came to help us but as soon as Josh got there I mean he was it's bigger than any Kate Buffalo he's ever shot which he's my biggest fan but he's also we're also very competitive people we were able to get our photos and really just capture how special of a moment it was to be able to harvest arguably the biggest cap Buffalo I will ever shoot in my entire life it was a once in a-lifetime animal when we got back to Camp I was able to FaceTime the kids and share the story with them show them a few photos and just really be able to you know have that experience together as a family it also solidified the fact that we have four more weeks here in Africa these situations are going to get more dangerous they're going to get more intense and ultimately we have to get home to our kids we have to be safe about this while also trying to accomplish our goals while we are here in Africa [Music] [Music]
