Chargers vs Seahawks Highlights and Takeaways the Chargers played their first preseason game 2 days ago and I'm going to be honest it was extremely disappointing it absolutely sucked but I'm still extremely excited about this coaching staff and and listen even though they sucked out there this is just one preseason game okay and it is not indicative of how this team is going to play in the regular season there's a couple reasons for that but for starters literally for starters a lot of the starters weren't playing but Justin Herbert he's going to be the quarterback for this team so trying to put a drive together it's not going to be as difficult as like dragging your feet through cement like we saw with eastn stick and the other quarterbacks out there but we're going to get to those quarterbacks trust me and also the play calling out there on offense it was extremely Bland and vanilla while on defense like Jesse M he did dial up some blitzes that was good to see a lot of nickel blitzes with like jir Taylor Thomas Harper he got a sack on a a nickel Blitz but it was nowhere near the level that it is going to be at in terms of like the amount of confusion that he causes and and the stunt moves and the disguises that he puts out there on defense in the regular season we're going to see a lot more of those blitzes but at a much higher level they're going to be way more complex let's just let's go over the main takeaways that I had Easton Stick bro from this game and the first one here I know we got to talk about offense it's it's obvious Easton stick okay buddy I I just I don't think he should be on this team just straight up man I like last year I broke down some of his tape towards the end of the year year in the regular season and then also in the preseason and like I was saying the same thing but this game he actually looked I don't know a little bit worse than I even I remember he was way too hesitant inaccurate like yes he's mobile that's probably the best thing to his game but he just is not he doesn't have great pocket presence right in his awareness when he's in the pocket he just kind of the pocket breaks down around him he doesn't know where to go he when he does commit to the run he does it too early he's so quick to tuck it and run rather than keep his eyes downfield and try to see what's going on with the receivers it's been a few years now of these same issues he just doesn't look comfortable out there and honestly I have seen enough from him and that's why Jim Harbaugh brought in Luis Perez because I think Jim Harbaugh he's seen enough too and he's gone through just like not even a full training camp yet the other Max Duggan was a lil better quarterback Max Dugen I thought he had better pocket presence and was more decisive but but he wasn't given much of an opportunity to just like Let It Rip but to be fair when he did like Let It Rip uh downfield like that he was pretty inaccurate as well so and it also it seemed like the farther downfield he threw the ball the more inaccurate that it would be but also like the play design on some of these throws when it was third and medium or third and long it it was so bad like there were times where nobody ran a route to the sticks or pass the sticks on a third down like Greg Roman he did that same kind of thing as the offensive coordinator in Baltimore I'm hoping that we are not going to be seeing that in the regular season and he's just being very Bland in the preseason but that was not a a good thing to see and also it could be like the receivers they're not running routes like say they're they're supposed to run a 5 yard dig or something and and they only run like a three- yard dig they need to be getting that route depth now let's talk about everybody's favorite Luis Perez was the best quarterback Luis Perez he was easily the most confident quarterback out there he had the best control of the offense and he's not even been with this team for an entire week yet so that's crazy to say but he had that one great deep pass down the right sideline he had the best pocket Presence by far he had the best command of the offense like I said and with that performance that we saw not even a week after being signed I just I don't know I don't think that Easton stick is going to make this roster after that because I believe Jim Harbaugh when he says that he wants competition and the best man is going to win the job I would also expect to see another quarterback signing before the season begins just to get Luis Perez more competition at that backup quarterback spot and then you know another thing that surprised me was that Simi foko was Quentin Johnston and Jaret Patterson out there playing before Quinton Johnston was like I I don't know if that means anything or not but you know also Jared Patterson he played over Elijah doson and Isaiah Spiller we've been seeing that in practice as well and I thought that Jared Patterson probably was the best running back back out there but I really just wasn't too impressed with any of them I thought he had he lacked some good Vision at times Jared Patterson did and that first team offensive line I thought they were fine they were good overall solid I also thought Joe Al played pretty well and he only allowed one pressure so that's pretty good I thought Zion Johnson looked pretty good as well but overall this offense like they just kind of sucked and you guys know that so let's talk about this defense because I'm Chargers Defensive Highlights going to have to go back and break down the defense in the all 22 footage but some guys that stood out to me from the broadcast View and I watched the game two times at this point but Morgan Fox he did a nice job penetrating in the Run game looked pretty good early on Christian fol he only played six snaps but he came downfield tackled well on that one play only allowed three yards on one catch he was the second highest graded Defender for the Chargers by PFF and then Michael Mason bro like what he was actually the highest graded charger by far and he had an 88.5 grade so I'm going to have to go back and go into depth on him specifically undrafted free agent from Coastal Carolina but um Thomas Harper he made that play on the blitz he came home and got the sack he was the only nickel who was able to actually get the quarterback on those nickel blitzes and we saw a couple of those uh during the day but he was also a guy that I liked a lot as an undrafted free agent he needs to build momentum off of that sack because this DB room it's got a clump of guys that are all going to be competing for the same few spots and he could separate himself now Nick Neeman the linebacker he was very active he had uh 10 tackles seven run stops so I thought that was pretty good but he also missed two tackles 15% Miss tackle rate and was not great in zone coverage either so some give and take there Troy Dy same kind of thing but uh otita abonia bro he Otito Ogbonnia is a dog looked healthy and like a stud out there like straight up up he looked good he was moving quickly he was looking strong he had a great motor as well like that really shined to me is his motor and I think he could really make a difference Defensive Rookies that look good on this defensive line this year if he keeps playing like that now another guy trayon Morris Brash a guy I highlighted before this game he flashed some good stuff in the pass rush although I thought he could have been better in run defense he had two QB hurries but I liked what I saw overall from him he's an undrafted free agent so pretty good tarhe still bro he batted two balls away only allowed a passer rating of 54.9 win targeted plus he had a quarterback hurry on a blitz which gave him a 90.4 pass rush grade he was an Elite pass rusher against the Seahawks he also missed a tackle though so again give and take here seems like jir Taylor is probably going to be the starting nickel quarterback or cornerback but we'll see what happens because we still got time until the regular season uh just a rough game overall for this entire team to be honest man but I'm glad that we got got a game like this out of the way so now they can just bounce back and like really it's only up from here now lastly Chargers Special Teams lookin GREAT is special teams everybody loves special teams Cameron Dicker hit a 58 yd field goal for our only score of the day which was it was bittersweet I'm going to be honest I love that he hit that but bro can we score more than a single field goal in like an hour Jaylen Gil he also flashed on two different returns so I don't know that might be something to keep an eye on I I don't know although it'll be tough to keep him on this roster so maybe he'll be like a practice squad candidate because you know the one part of this team that I can say with full confidence like they are ready they are top tier we just need Justin Herbert back to actually get some chains moving on this offense and then unleash this defense once Jesse M has full creative freedom in the regular season and I I think they can be competitive so it was a rough game overall it it it sucked let's just be honest but I am still really confident in this coaching staff and the direction of this team in one preseason game it's not going to make me feel any different I'm going to be honest with you I'm going to be breaking down the offense and the defense later on this week but if you did not see my last video then you can click right here
