City of Grand Prairie: Meet Local Artist Joaquin Soto

being an immigrant coming to this country at 7 years old and the very first thing I remember seeing is this building having my own exhibit here at the Uptown is a full circle is breathtaking just to have this opportunity hi my name is Walkin stto I'm a local Grand Prairie artist when people see my art I want them to wonder why I did that piece why I chose those materials I like working with scrap metal in particular because just like we like as an individual we all have a past we all have a present we all have a future and uh we all get discarded at one point just like the pieces in my in my work I hope people come see my exhibit because it's a long time in the making um I grew up in this city and I've been honing my craft for so many years and I want to share it with the community I came to this country um with no English skills whatsoever and um I want to show people that you can make it you can do something uh as long as you put your mind to it and this is Testament to that I would like to invite the community to my closing reception August 29th 6 6: to 9:00 p.m. uh that day will be very special because I will actually be telling my story on the theater stage um I will have a good friend of mine Mark Hernandez he will be interviewing me and asking me tough questions about my life what inspired me what got me here and that would be a good good time for people to know my full story and get to know me in a very personal level [Music]
