why is Jared Le and his drummer talking into a mic but nothing is coming out [Applause] uh I said before we played who is he talking to why can't we hear him in the music industry this is called a talk mic next time you go to a geek see if any band members have an extra mic to their side that they either talking to and you can't hear it or perhaps they don't use it at all so why would you have a mic that you don't use at all well talk mics are used to talk to your crew that are working somewhere off stage or your other band members the crew and your band members are wearing in ear so they can hear what's being said through the talk mic but the audience can't talk mics are often used in case something goes wrong or changes and you need to stly communicate this change to other band members or crew members such as your sound Engineers so here Jared might be saying I'm not getting any click in my ears someone fix it cuz then we can hear him say into his other mic that he's using for singing yes yes yes let me hear that click so I know I got it so that's why the talk mic might never get used at a show at all it's often there just in case you need it but if a gig runs smoothly you won't use it although you might catch musicians using the talk mic to share a joke between songs if they look concerned and serious when they're talking to the mic they're probably trying to fix an issue if you see them smiling when they're talking to their mic they're probably just telling a joke however church or worship bands use talk mics more frequently the music directors of these bands tend to rely on talk Ms to direct the band through most songs because their gigs require a lot more improvisation for example the whole band will improvise music to play Under the pastor's prayer and who knows how long the pastor will talk for or where the mood of their sermon is going so the music director will vibe of the pastor and instruct the band accordingly they might tell the band Loop the verse let's bring up the energy more symbol swells okay let's go to the chorus in one 2 3 4 and that's talk Max
