WVU Football: Mountaineer Receivers Catching On, Plus Roster Update

all right enough silliness well I don't know if there is enough silliness we'll see anyway various news we do have a roster update coming in just a minute uh going to be talking about the wide receivers I've done that a couple of times lately but this time it is in the Reasonable Doubt series and it seems a lot of people uh want to doubt the wide receivers ah poor guys we'll get to all of that in just a minute as soon as I say all of those things like this is WVU football going deep I am Forest Poston some think that's a good thing some think other things but that is the way it is and uh please share subscribe tell your friends click the thumbs up button and the notification Bell now roster update first I guess uh as expected uh Wickstrom is you know out uh I thought it was going to be graduation and retire but it's listed as a medical retirement don't know exactly what the problem is but it would explain why why he not only uh you know never really showed anything in games but was not even really getting mentioned by the coaches nor asked about by the media really uh or we might have known more but we'll go from there still I have one maybe two spots that need to be resolved we'll get that information coming along the line fairly soon I would think uh also the media guide for media days has been released and it does include a depth chart I'll do a video talking about that probably shortly after I finish recording this one and uh some surprises but does it mean anything probably not we haven't had fall Camp some of the guys you know either have just started working out with the team or haven't yet started working out with the team uh we'll see how that all plays out but it's still something fun to talk about talking about the same team same players but a different perspective so it changes things meanwhile wide receivers uh the reason people give for questioning the wide receivers is that they have not put up big numbers well I suppose that's true now on the other hand uh as I covered in a different video well West Virginia didn't throw very much for the first half of the season and that makes it a little tougher for wide receivers to put up big numbers they did significantly better second half of the season and uh partway through the season Brown just decided to go young with the receivers the way he had done with offensive and defensive line and build from there now by late in the season the receivers were doing pretty well I mean you don't get you know the kind of passing yardage that green was putting up unless you're getting at least a little bit of cooperation from the wide receivers now at the same time something I think we tend to forget Reay and Gallagher should have red shirted last year in a normal season with a normal roster they would have red shirted and we wouldn't be talking about whether they did well or not Gallagher would have had that year to learn the position Ray would have had the year to put on muscle and adapt to power uh Power four level uh Clement would just be earning significant playing time that's the way these things usually progress but they got thrown in kind of over their heads and learned how to swim the hard way I do not recommend that way but we got through it now we've brought in Bray and Justin Robinson two older guys brace has two years Robinson W and they should win what you more or less call the starting spot uh guys are going to rotate a lot there will probably be five guys maybe six who all play almost the same um a little bit of variation from week to week who plays and who gets hot that sort of thing um but you want the older guys there so the younger guys and come we're still talking about a third-year player and two first year or second year players they still need development they're not done uh you know a lot of them put on 10 pounds of muscle and still you'll need another five or something you know um spring camp people were talking about how Bray looked like a man among boys well that's what he was you know it should have been a reminder to people that these other wide receivers are very young they have not had time to develop the body or the mind to the extent they really need to play uh at their best at this level so in some respects we're ahead of the game ahead of the curve with the young guys and we just need the older guys to fulfill the promise they haven't quite shown with other teams and will be very good now that's sort of the summary uh Bray did not show a lot in the spring game but he hadn't been here very long Robinson had I don't know if he has even started working out with the team yet so they've got things to prove we need them to come through you I mean if they are 500 600 yard receivers uh that will be good some degree it'll depend on what kind of catches they're making we'll see uh but Clement and Reay will play a lot Gallagher will play a lot he may start uh and they will build on last year if you look at the trajectory they were going upward pretty well and that gives you an indication that they probably will cons continue an upward trajectory uh is an established you know path um we've had consistency with wide receiver coach now uh which has not been the norm in the past um so I think wide receiver room looks pretty darn good uh we also have Williams hasn't hasn't developed as quickly as hoped but he may be one who shines this year uh TJ Johnson switched from tight end to wide receiver 6' three so he does give us another tall option we've got to see how he develops this is his second year and we have uh farmer and Rayman coming in Farmer is already penciled in on the uh depth chart by behind Gallagher uh I think it was behind Gallagher uh Raymond if we needed could do just as well or maybe better as a freshman compared to say Ray uh he is a welldeveloped receiver so the people who doubt the wide receiver room like to doubt and what they don't understand is that questions are the world's greatest toys but you got to play with them if you have a question about the wide receivers you don't just say well I question the wide receivers so that doesn't get us anywhere it doesn't get you anywhere that's no fun but if you question the wide receivers and start to play around with the possibilities now that is fun you may have noticed that's what I do I like to play with ideas ah okay I'm not going to get off on a too much of a tangent today or at least not right now whyde receiver room looks good younger guys were too young last year but did well coming on we've got some older guys who should help out this year as the younger guys continue to develop the talent is there all right uh I got to sort myself out I got to spend a little time with rockus
