we flipped field position a couple times with with our punt Max I thought really kicked the ball off well I think he was four out of five uh putting it in the end zone that we got to be able to finish it there at the end and and get a better kick than giving them that opportunity to return it but I thought that our kicking game was solid it was solid offensively if we don't turn the ball over and we can run the football and and executing the Red Zone we've got to make some improvements on third downs but it's great first first win it's great for this town great for this University uh great for these kids and now we've got to continue to build on it3 in your first a lot of expect team it to comei first it was it was very very sweet you know these players have bought in to turnning this program around and these players have have worked extremely hard to fight daily to bring this to turn this program around um I'm very proud of them I'm proud of our coaches I thought our coaching staff did a great job um made some really good halftime adjustments saw where they were consistently bringing uh double-edged pressure from the field and we made some good halftime adjustments and felt like we attacked the boundary really well um in the second half about perance you know couldn't be more proud of of ah mod knew when we signed him in December he had a chance to be an elite player and what we do offensively um his maturity is different than true freshman he you know he he runs extremely hard he's violent he he's he comes up to the facility all the time on his own to study extra film that you just don't see from true freshman a lot and in his performance throughout fall Camp he earned everything he got tonight and he earned the start and I think if if he'll just continue Contin to grow and develop continue to grow and develop um you know we've been able to put some really good backs out in this offense the last several years so I think he's another one I thought that James Jones ran the ball hard I think Tav Curry when you go to that third and four that fourth and three play and he took their defense for about a five yard ride really showed our toughness and our mentality to to really get that first down so I I was really proud of our running backs how they ran how they protected the ball and um we've got one protection issue that we need to clean up from the sack absolutely you know we're we're going to run the football here that's what we do that's what we've done for years we're going to run outside Zone um we've got a lot of faith in our offensive line and our tight ends and then we've got a true freshman running back out there and James Jones and Tav Curry and we've got some other talented backs on this roster that didn't really get the opportunity to play that that I think we'll see in the near future but really proud of our running back room our o line and tight ends and really our receivers I thought we really we blocked really well on the perimeter which popped some of those big runs there in the end performance I thought overall it was probably a B minus on on the potential maybe a C+ I think we've got eliminate penalties I sit here and I look at at this stat sheet and we we've got nine penalties and that's losing football we've got to clean that up we've got to fix that we've got to be hard on oursel put everything under the microscope on the things we got to fix and we've got to put tremendous focus and effort this week to clean them up because we've got a really good football team coming into town Saturday night you know our defense is they take a lot of Pride they've been solid all spring they were solid all fall Camp there's great energy there's great effort we're very smart we're intelligent on that side we're Savvy I think our dline is Twitchy we feel like we've got eight guys that can play on the front I think we're four deep really five deep at inside linebackers of guys that are explosive and smart and can really get to the football I thought our back end minus the one deep ball there in the first half played really well you know once we got the lead and especially in the second half we wanted to keep everything in front and I thought that overall for the first game that we did a decent job of tackling then that's something that we've got to improve on daily we've got to tackle we've got to get takeaways we've got to protect the ball on offense and we got to be great in situational football and anytime we can get a win and learn from it we'll take it and we'll be happy with it because you know there's always things that we have to fix there's always failures and as long as we fix failures and don't let failures control our mentality then we can continue to climb General performance I thought General did a great job for his first start I think there's two throws if you look at him 10 of 10 of 13 there's two throws that that he that we expect him and he expects himself to do a little perimeter screen to the field early in the first quarter that was low we had three on two to the field and didn't take advantage of it and then the neck it to the boundary they got batted you know we knew they were bringing a ton of edge pressure he's got to win with more depth and get big with the ball to get it out because we got the guy wide open in the in the boundary you know in the flats but very proud of General I thought he made some really good decisions when we were up seven you know we were right there in The Fringe around that 35 33 is area and we got backed up got a penalty and got got behind the sticks and I thought he made a great decision checking it down and going getting four instead of forcing the ball and then we were able to run the lead draw and get seven more yards that got us a little bit closer so we could kick the field goal and go up two scores so I thought General played very smart I thought the run there at that moment that zone read that he was able to pull down and get 20 to 30 yards was a key play to really swing the momentum back in the second half I just tell me how much he to compete with well you know right now General is our starting quarterback Aiden Armena is our backup Aiden Armena is a really good quarterback and what happens in college football is when the when the backup's called in because something happens whatever it is everybody expects him to win the game and that was Aiden arm Mena's first action in a college football game he's one for one with a touchdown so we have to protect the team weekly by growing and developing and our roster and getting experience you can't buy experience you got to go out there and play and Aiden Armena getting valuable reps in time only develops him and helps our team if he's called upon and and we want to make sure that he has reps throughout the season to protect our team I know your been such a big part of you know just growing into this community for you and for this team that moment you got to embrace her on the field after your first here how special was that moment it was pretty special she has um been the our biggest our biggest fan the boys biggest fans my biggest fan for 28 seasons and and we've moved all over you know all over the state of Alabama all over the country at times and she's been ready to go every single trip and you know I wouldn't be sitting here right now if it wasn't for her there is no doubt about it so obviously U Got a great wife uh a great team mom and uh couldn't be more proud spech what's the post a win's a win we're going to take every one of them you know we just broke a 10 game losing streak we're ranked 134 out of 134 we picked dead last in the Sun Belt so we're going to continue the climb we are going to get better uh we're going to take another step one day at a time and and we've got goals you know we're not sitting here happy yeah we're happy with the win but we've got a lot bigger goals than than one and0 and we've got to attack it this week you know we've got a great team coming into town probably one of the best group of five schools in the country um with really good players and um there's no doubt in my mind this team will be ready just how close this thing can swing I mean we're sitting there and we're up two scores and we got a chance to put it away and we had backto back holding penalties that destroy a drive and you open the door for your opponent good teams finish teams off they don't open the door and give them an opportunity to get back in the game and you know we should have finished those guys off with about seven minutes but we didn't because we're learning how to win we're learning how to finish people and these guys this team's hungry to take that next step so we got to have a big week of preparation going into the next game
