Intro eastern equine encephalitis it's a virus it's transmitted by mosquitos and it can infect humans can affect animals and in humans it can cause severe brain damage and even death those symptoms the the headache the stiff neck the high fever show up about three to ten days after a bite from an infected mosquito the virus Symptoms attacks different areas of the brain in different areas in different people but it attacks those areas and causes damage much like a stroke or a head injury and that damage to a large extent is permanent but then the brain can recover Seek medical attention you should seek medical attention if you have any of those symptoms it could be eastern equine virus but most likely it's some other virus or other condition but you should find out what the cause of symptoms are unfortunately there's no Treatment treatment for Triple E there's no vaccine as well we simply have medical treatments to support patients and then we have rehabilitation strategies if they suffer neurologic consequences well it's very Death serious it causes death in about 30% of the people who are infected by the virus and then it causes severe neurologic problems and many of the others who are affected and usually those neurologic problems don't fully recover the neurologic manifestations of Triple E we treat similar to say a traumatic brain injury or a stroke and in terms of the rehabilitation strategies if someone suffers neurologic consequences from Triple E then rehabilitation is very important they may have many different neurologic problems and different disciplines can work on different aspects of your your your functional deficits to improve your function if you look back at history there's very few cases in Michigan and as well as other states per year and this is a big jump in the number of cases that we've had in Michigan and we don't know yet what next year is gonna hold and public officials are going to try to get some answers to that
