Bay FC Post-Win Interview with Abby Dahlkemper and Emily Menges

AFC team and one of the debut goal scorers in the league Abby do keer joins us also the captain of the side tonight Emily mangas as well from the field it's Mike and Leanne up in the booth Emily I want to start with you I said to you yesterday do you know how many games you've played in Portland well now I do 100 this is number 100 how did it feel oh this one felt the best not going to not going to sugarcoat it this one felt good uh try and describe what this was like for you I mean we disc TR it in the leadup yesterday did it match the the sort of emotional expectation you had yeah I think I was downplaying a little bit I think I said I had my emotions under control um it was going to take the game starting and me connecting a few passes for those em emotions to kind of melt away and then they came right back in the last 20 minutes when I was like screaming at my whole team to just keep keep our together so yeah this is this was a true team effort and I couldn't be happier Abby I said to Emily yesterday what is it going to feel like if you scor and she laughed at me what did it feel like when you scored dude I gambled hard and it paid off um amazing Ball by Dorian on the back post and just gambled and it fell right to my head so Abby you spoke to us yesterday about what it feels to be playing for your hometown Club you just explain for everybody else cuz we felt it from you yesterday that twinkle in your eye you could see every single you like a brick wall today what does it mean for you to play for this thing it means everything um I am so passionate about soccer in the Bay Area inspiring um the Next Generation because I was inspired um in the bay and that's what it's all about so um I think you know like Emily said it was a total team effort and I'm just really really proud of the team and so happy to get a a win um in in Portland which is very hard to do so Abby we spoke yesterday and part of the conversation was figuring out how albertin Montoya wanted to play and that you knew so well from knowing him for for close to two decades now can you sort of describe what you can add to this this Bay FC because I think we got a pretty good idea tonight uh yeah I I uh like to play the ball along sometimes and um I think you know just adding that vertical threat just um adds Dimensions to our attack and makes us a little bit more unpredictable which is nice Abby we're looking at some of your highlights tonight try and describe what it's like look at your kit look at that logo I mean you talked to us about going to Gold Pride games back in the day I imagine this has to be just an otherworldly feeling right now it is it feels so surreal I feel like I'm in a dream but um it's reality so I'm just so happy and um just really really proud to be playing against or amongst um M now and uh I feel like we already have a good partnership uh you know developing so it'll only get better and just again proud of the team for a win and Emily what was that communication like because as the game was getting late on there was five corners in a row you know what were you two communicating with each other I think at one point we kind of I think after our third goal we brought Z back and we kind of locked in the defense connected our lines a little bit more and kind of buckled down um and everyone in this league is used to chaos in the last 20 minutes of games and so we um yeah buckled down kept just keeping people focused and relocking in every single set piece and so yeah we were able to pull it off Emily let's close with this you were here from the beginning you you made the decision to join this Bay team over the offseason how important are these three points at this location in the way you guys did it yeah um I think it wasn't our prettiest game but that's that's not really what's important right now I think you just saw like our full team come together um in a complete effort in a complete 90-minute effort and that's just something we've been striving for and this team is building this was always going to be a build year but um yeah these these three points mean a lot obviously the mistake from Caitlyn Roland Abby you played the ball back these things happen what was it like a half time what was the communication like amongst you guys cuz you continue to play out from the back which I really admire it's difficult to do when you concede in that way yeah I mean I think I mean everyone makes mistakes in uh in soccer that's that's the name of the game and I think um to to have The Bravery to continue to do that and albertine gives us the green light to you know play what we see and just play soccer so um you know mistakes happen and it was equally as as big as my fault um for playing it back and maybe I should have gone forward so uh we'll look at it and we'll get better from it I was just Overjoyed to have two center backs on in our postgame show thank you both for the time thanks so much thanks guys thanks guys enjoy the wins
