Pittsburgh Steelers kick returner Cordo Patterson in a recent interview says that he's starting to feel old and his body is not where it should be also insiders believe that he may be regretting signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers just because of how tough practice has been and the coaches have been on him thus far so before we get more into it make sure you subscribe to the channel and turn notifications for everything Pittsburgh Steelers news and updates also like the video now let's get right back in into it so at the beginning of the off season a new kickoff return rule was passed and right away the same day the Pittsburgh Steelers went out and S one of the best kick returners in NFL history cordello Patterson most touchdowns in NFL history on kickoffs so they went out and signed him because of the new kickoff rule change and basically kickoffs returning to the NFL and at being a Difference Maker once again and Cordell Patterson he signed a 2-year $6 million contract the hope is that he can tap into his career success and the role under the new set rules that will come into play as of this season but just recently in an interview done last week he was talking about how his body feels right now and this is what he had to say here's his quote I'm probably a two out of 10 right now but when I get to Camp I got to be eight out of 10 when Camp's over I got to be 10 out of 10 how about that end quote so Alise's being honest Cordell Patterson right now his body is not feeling the same as it did in past and being two out of 10 at this stage with mini camp just finishing right now yes there's so much offseason left but it's only going to get worse the off season is where you should be feeling 10 out of 10 not during the season during the season obviously you should be good right away but then obviously the bumps and bruises that makes it go down but being two of 10 right now in off season might be Troublesome but anyway looking at Cordell Patterson's injury profile he has battled an increasing number of injuries over just the last few seasons alone over the first eight seasons of his career he missed just one game but over the last three seasons he has missed eight he was labeled questionable with a hamstring injury over the first three weeks of the 2023 season and ended up missing all three games those are the type of soft Tiss injuries that can occur if you put your body through severe activity before it is ready but it this stage it is really unfair to draw conclusions with such a small sample size and it's okay to be concerned with overall Approach at this stage of his career but like I said the off seon is when you're rehabing in terms of your body should be fully healthy you're not put through any severe activity you're not going through those bumps and bruises so at this point I would think think that you would be 10 of of 10 but obviously he knows what he's doing he's entering his 12 years as a pro he knows his body and what it takes to be prepared better than most but he is now entering the late stages of his career it isn't unreasonable to question if his body is capable of bouncing back the way used to in his early and mid 20s and if you don't want to take my word for it take a Pittsburgh Steelers Insider and someone who's around the team all the time and Brian backo was word for it he said this here's his quote on cordello Patterson he's not in the best shape right now so what he was able to do in the spring maybe there will be another level if he finds it next month in training camp I mean he looked like a tight end when I saw him end quote so obviously he's not in the best shape he's a little big and he could always get better and if he does get better then obviously you could see more burst from him but even Brian batco Pittsburgh Insider says he's not in good shape right now and C Patterson even admitted hit himself so it is what it is now let's move on to the second topic of this video still surrounding Cordell Patterson in the video title it's basically saying is he regretting signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers this is not literally in terms of hey he's regretting sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers but in terms of hey he's been made so hard in practice the coaches have put him through so much in terms of Danny Smith making him field so many different kicks and things like that that he can be regretting sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers just because how tough this off season has been th far for him and what he's put through so looking at a quote by Brian backo once again he says that Cordell Patterson has a LoveHate relationship with the rules one day he enjoys it the next day he hates it probably because Danny Smith and others are making it tough on him in practice busting out all sorts of different kicks sharp line drives squitters and Patterson maybe he's a Danny Glover I'm getting too old for this is what he said so obviously this is more fun in games in terms of questioning hey this is the hardest probably training camp he's been through the new rules took place he hasn't had to deal with these rules before so now the Steelers are putting through all of this at what 33 years old he probably regrets signing up the Pittsburgh Steelers for the specific rule as a kickoff returner cuz now he's do so much more work than he's used to that's kind of the topic I was going with with the title so you also look at Cordell Patterson and he is basically the kickoff returner unless he just doesn't make the team for whatever reason in case he's not able to bounce back from being a two of 10 maybe he doesn't show up in train camp in terms of his play style in which the Pittsburgh is expected or the preseason and if he does end up making the roster then sure the Ser have to go a different route at the kick return game but as of right now you expect him to be the kickoff returner and he really does not have any competition as a kickoff return man yes you could say a guy like Kelvin Austin with 4.3 type speed that he may be brought in as a kick returner especially under the new rules and having more space to return kicks and having him an open space will be great because of his speed but in terms of kickoff returns he just hasn't done it he's really only returned punch he's only returned punts in the NFL and in college he wasn't really a kickoff returner either he was more of a punt returner so when you look at the kick return game sure they could switch it and add Kevin Austin into the mix this season but when you look at the other guys who return kicks on the roster it's not many so cardo Patterson he was obviously brought in here for a reason and there's not many others who are going to be fighting for his job so it's basically his job to lose or he's basically already won the job at this point and even though his numbers were kind of pedestrian last season he was still dealing with all those injuries last year so you could kind of give him a pass there but Patterson he is the most accomplished kick returner in NFL history yes you could say other guys like maybe Devon Hester are better but when you look at him he averaged 21.9 yards per return in 2023 if you control the outliers by removing the longest and shortest returns he averaging over 23.9 the past two seasons he has won 103 yard touchdown in 2022 but that stands in contrast to his play toplay performance so when you look over the last two years he really has been a pedestrian in terms of an average kickoff returner he has meant to great but like I said you could give him a pass maybe because of injuries but still he's getting older he's not going to get better at the kick kickoff return game he may only get worse but also you look at him he still has all that knowledge as a kick returner though that's something you can't take away from him take away the IQ cuz he obviously has been doing kickoff returns for such a long time and like I said the only really other person you may say is better at kickoff returns is Devon Hester cordel Patterson most touchdowns in NFL history in the kickoff return game and he's been great throughout his career wherever he's been it doesn't matter if he was in New England doesn't matter Atlanta doesn't matter where he's been he with Minnesota he he's been a great kof Turner throughout his entire career and every single team that he's been in he's always been that special team's Ace and that IQ is there he knows where to return it he knows how to return it and that's why when the Steelers and the NFL had to adjust to the NFL kickoff rules changing the first person the Pittsburgh Steelers called went to was Cordell Patterson what better person to get for the job than the best or if not the best kickoff returner in NFL history so the Steelers they got themselves an ace at the Special Teams game and now we have to wait to see if his body can hold up and if he could go through this entire season and get back to feeling like his normal self again but with that being said that's the end of this video let me know your thoughts down in the comments Below on Cordell Patterson and just him being on this team your thoughts on him saying his body is a 2 of 10 right now and also your thoughts on him May regretting because he has to be put through so much work in terms of all these new things in year 12 at age 33 do you think he regrets signing to be that special team's Ace this late in his career let me your thoughts in the comments below and also make sure you subscribe to the channel and turn notifications
