Dom Tiberi joined by Adam King and um I think it's fair to say Adam, we're all in shock. It's devastating. It is senseless and it's so preventable. Talking about the death of uh Johnny Goodreau and his brother Matthew. Uh the, the worst fears became true. We saw it on social media first pop up last night and, uh, it has been confirmed that Johnny and his brother Matthew, who are in New Jersey just outside Philadelphia were tragically killed and, uh, and it, and, and I'm not gonna call it an accident. Uh because, uh apparently the driver of the vehicle was, was drunk or is under suspicion of being drunk. Um, but, uh killed them both and I just, my heart goes out to the Goodreau family, his wife, MEREDITH, two small Children, uh his parents, uh I'm just totally, I, I'm, I'm speechless. I, I don't know what to say about this. How senseless it is and, and, and, and how preventable it was Johnny Goodreau. They called him Johnny Hockey, one of the good guys of the game. Uh always had a smile on his face. He chose to come to Columbus. He's a superstar. He was in Calgary, came to Columbus because he wanted to raise a family here. His two young Children were born here. And, uh, I just, you know, uh, th th this is a day that you just reflect and, you know, sports is supposed to be an escape. It's supposed to be an outlet, a release. And, uh, th this is just hard to wrap around and, and again, I, I am just so heartbroken for the goodreau family. And, and what makes it even worse, Adam, they were in New Jersey for their sister's wedding. They were gonna be groomsmen in the wedding. That's, I mean, when you hear it, you don't believe it's real. When you see it, you don't want it to be real. Uh I spent a lot of time at nationwide this morning and I, I'll be honest. Um it's, it's, it's awful. It's one of the worst days in Columbus sports history when you think about him, I mean, his face is larger than life up there. A nationwide arena and now below it, it says in memory of Johnny Goodreau. It, it, you know, you call it is Johnny Hockey is his nickname. I can tell you that all morning long ever since this first started to roll out, not a person has mentioned hockey. And I think that's what makes him so amazing. You know, I got a chance to talk to him many times. He's an incredibly down to earth. Guy. Incredibly nice guy. You would be, I mean, the amount of fans that came up today and said I got a chance to meet with Johnny. He talked to me for five minutes. He didn't have to talk with me for five minutes, but he didn't leave because he was just a nice guy. I mean, the stories are endless. This guy won the sportsmanship award in the league back in 2017. I mean, he, he's just, you, you're right. He's one of the good ones and not to be lost in this, his brother. I mean, it's, it's absolutely devastating. It, you can't, you can't put it into words. It's, I, I think I saw a moment today that I think I'll probably remember for the rest of my life. It was a woman wearing a jersey for TV, who they lost three years ago and she walked up and she was crying and then she walked away and started praying with another guy and then they started hugging and crying together and asked her, you know, who was? He said, I have no idea, complete stranger. But today we're brothers and I and I, people were going and buying good Ro jerseys. There's, you're just at a loss for what to do. Well, the blue, there's, there's no fans like the Blue Jacket fans out there, first of all. And I know you all are hurting that, that the hockey community is a tight knit group. And God bless all of you. I know you're hurting. I know the Blue Jackets is an organization. You all are hurting. And, um, you know, and, and then I think about the goodreau family, his wife, MEREDITH, those two small Children, his mom and dad. And I know this as a parent, we're not supposed to bury our Children. And I know how hard it was for me when we had to say goodbye to Maria. And now I'm thinking about this family in Jersey and it just breaks my heart that they lost their two sons and then that to make it worse, you think that this was so it's gonna be such a joyous weekend, the wedding of their sister and to have this happen, it's just, you know, I, I've said it before to you folks and, and I'll say it again. Hug your Children, love your family because you just never know. But this one hurts 31 years young. They all hurt the two brothers but senseless and so preventable. Preventable. That's the one thing I wanna say. So, uh, keep it on T TV. We'll have more on this, uh, you know, hug someone because, uh, this one hurts.
