Disney+ Is Adding Live TV Including a Disney Junior Channel & Live News

welcome back to court cutting today where we break down some of the biggest stories happening in the world of Court cutting including today we got Disney adding live channels to Disney plus this has been rumored but it's finally happened Valley Sports in a fight with major league baseball and then we have an update on the Verizon buying Frontier story we talked about yesterday we got some it so yesterday we talked about the Wall Street Journal report that Verizon was close to a deal to buy Frontier now of course this needs regulatory approval and all kinds of stuff well it happened yesterday of course just as of hit and post on the video the news broke Verizon's buying Frontier for $20 billion and it looks like an all cash deal subject to um regulatory approval with this Verizon actually is buying back some markets they sold a Frontier Verizon had a few smaller fiber markets they sold off to Frontier for some quick cash now they're buying them back with Frontier as a whole with this uh it will allow Verizon to significantly expand I think it sits something like 23 States here 34 states excuse me and the the um District of Washington DC will now once again or for the first time have Verizon FiOS for now what does this mean if you're a Verizon or a um a Frontier customer nothing it's going to take a while even once the deal closes and I fully expect it to close maybe one or two markets may have to be sold off for different things but I expect this to close um nothing noticeable will change even after the closing it'll take a while eventually Frontier will be rebranded into Verizon your billing will switch over probably have to get a new login on a new website but your service will remain the same for now I do not expect to see any major change at all with that going forward so there's the update Link in the show notes down below kind of talked a lot about this yesterday it's Now official though and again we'll have coverage as we wait for this to get regulatory approval as that happens we'll let you know what's happening all right Disney Plus for some time has reportedly been working on adding live channels to the service the first few have gone live including a 24/7 live channel of Disney Junior shows and ABC news 24/7 these are reportedly just the first ones that hit the market more are coming as Disney plus adds more live content now with this you can get 24/7 ft of ABC News this is the same ABC news feed that's free in other spots just now integrated into the Disney Plus app you also find a 24/7 ft of the Disney Junior shows interestingly not really a branded Channel and it shows different Disney junr shows and whatever is on when you turn on the TV is what shows you it doesn't even call it the Disney junr Channel just hey there is a um Spider-Man and friends or uh there's a um pups uh construction pups construction however you say that show those seem to be the two mainly showing on the channel right now seems to be rotating different content with that interesting to see them now Disney is this reportedly part of a bigger plan of Disney to drive up engagement on Disney plus helping keep ad viewers in there so they see more ad views but just help people use Disney plus more so they see as valuable and they don't consider cancelling it as people um use of a service goes up the likelihood of them keeping their subscription goes up as it falls the likelihood of them cancelling grows so with that Disney is looking at trying to make you more interested by putting these channels here and a lot of people do like them I know there's a a lot of people like hey I want to watch King of the Hill I want to turn King of the Hill I want some background noise I don't really care what episode I just want to turn it on and let it run and that's the nice thing about these kind of shows or channels is they just do that let me know is this something you're interested in something you're not interested in does it have any impact on your opinions with Disney plus all right recently reported a ballet Sports has struck a deal with the NBA and NHL for for all but two of those teams to remain on B Sports well now we have a report out there that um they are struggling with a deal with Major League Baseball Major League Baseball is reply pushing back over concerns about the future of balet sports and it raises questions about the future of Major League Baseball on B Sports of course they're not going to comment on this but there's a real possibility they won't be on B Sports in years to come and Major League Baseball has been one of the more vocal critics of some of this stuff happening there but balet Sports is putting pressure on or Major League Baseball is putting pressure on balet sports as they looked to reach a new deal to help B Sports get get out bankruptcy still very far away from a deal here a final deal to get B Sports out bankruptcy we recently saw Amazon cancel their investment and cancel their deal that would have seen some of Valley sports' streaming move over to Amazon interesting to see how this plays out at the one side you see them strike a deal with M with NHL and NBA on the flip side they're struggling with Amazon and Major League Baseball so we'll see what happens in the long run there all right T-Mobile is got a big sale we've been thinking about getting their 5G home airnet that they have their 5G home internet premium version which I think they call the plus plan normally $70 a month right now on sale for 50 and you get their premium mesh network Wi-Fi and improved signal reception there which honestly this wi-fi Hotpot is significantly better than the old one but if you've been thinking about getting T-Mobile 5G Home Internet you may want to think about giving it a try right now they got a sale going on and you get the free upgraded to the better wi-fi system link in the show so if you want to learn more all right some internal Disney data has leaked now we know about this for a while somebody got access to Disney is internal slack which is their chat system and basically just downloaded everything on it and with that employees had exchanged files through it you know it's supposed to be a secure system so if I'm somebody in business and I'm sending a oh hey Jim I got a file for you and send it off rather than emailing I just drop in slack well now that's in the hands of the Wall Street Journal who has received internal documents that show Disney made $2.4 billion in revenue on Disney Plus in the second quarter very interesting with this cuz Disney doesn't break out like how much revenue Disney plus ESP plus who Luke s made it's just one big bundle but according to Wall Street Journal that works out to be about 43% of their overall direct to Consumer streaming revenue for the second quarter is Disney plus of course who l a big chunk of that ESPN plus and some other services out there but Disney plus and Hulu are clearly two of the largest which is probably why Comcast and Disney are still fighting over the final price that Disney has a pay Comcast for Hulu but with this $2.4 billion in Revenue now that's before expenses so you know I'm run a business I make 100 bucks right well maybe my payrolls $50 of that expenses for the equipment was 20 you know you get the idea the then I get 30 or 40 bucks maybe in profit I can use to invest in the business or do whatever I want with it so how much of that is profit how much the expenses Disney officially for a long time has been losing money they recently became profitable in some areas we'll see is Disney plus profitable we don't know we just know how much revenue it took in we don't know all the expenses employees content creation content licensing and other their fees that they have to pay to keep the service going all right are you a fan of AI well you may be seeing AI announcers become a thing very soon now the tennis channel is going to start doing this for Spanish language announcers what they're going to do is they going to take the English announcers for the upcoming um open tournament that they'll be airing on the tennis Channel and they will take the English announcers use AI to rebroadcast it as a Spanish version of the show I think we're going to see more and more of this kind of behavior we saw peacock do uh AI generated um highlight reel voiceovers for AI now I think we're going to see this more and more for Live Events because let's be honest paying two whole sets of announcers one doing English wanted to do in Spanish is expensive if the tenant channel can just say we're going to have English announcers and then use a to dub that into Spanish could save them a lot of money I say is BU you know when technology like this saves people money they're willing to invest a lot of money in it that's why I think you know self-driving semi- trucks are racing ahead because companies need drivers they're investing a lot of money in it TV companies need to save money they're going to invest in AI powered announcers to cut costs on smaller um sporting events especially for smaller audiences out
