UCLA quarterback Ethan Garbers talks offensive improvement in second half against Hawai’i

you guys came back in a big way uh what what kind of sparked that you know uh we had a lot of self-inflicted wounds in the first half and a lot of mental mistakes on the offensive side of ball defense did their job you know they only held them I think yeah 100 yards in the second half I mean we came in at halftime you know coach Foster's uh message was simple he said you know we got to lock in like we're shooting ourselves in the foot you know this is not us let's get back to what we've been doing in practice what we've been doing in Fall camp and uh yeah we just we came out in the second half and we just we did our thing but uh still a lot of things to clean up still a lot of room to get better and we're excited for that what about R couple of huge plays uh how was he able to contribute so much in his first game here I mean he's been awesome you know we've been building that chemistry ever since he got here in January um you know he's he's seems to just be open and uh seems to be the right the right receiver so uh he's doing a great job all the other receivers are doing a great job too we're like I said we're going to keep working and uh with a byee this week we'll get back in the lab and we fix things up first half do you think it was just a matter of new offense guys kind of figure things out yeah I mean uh I think we were just everyone was trying to do too much instead of just sticking to their job including me uh you know trying to make plays trying trying to put stuff that wasn't really there you know I got to be smarter I got to be more calm and more uh collected back there and uh you know in the second half we we just we went back to what we've been doing off all Camp you know everyone just doing their job and taking it a play at a time what was coach f you know you guys were down 10 nothing I mean he he was the same person he didn't Flinch he didn't move he said hey we got to go we got to pick this up he said there nobody was worrying nothing we were in that locker room focused and ready to get back on the field doing that most of that second half without two of your starting tackles what do you think that says about your offensive line I mean uh it speaks a lot about Coach Castillo we got a lot of volume and a lot of depth uh from the from the offensive line you know Jaylen and Nikki they're doing a fantastic job you know couldn't ask for any better but uh yeah like like I said we're just going to keep working and uh keep getting back into it you had a connection with uh Carter Shaw are we going to see more of that in the Indiana game yeah yeah I mean Carter's been working his tail off he's been great uh and he was in the right right place at the right time on that play and uh that's what happens you get the ball what would you say is kind of the top of your to-do list for the by week fix L uh first of all I need to watch this film need to uh get back get better um you know on Monday we're going to come in I'll probably meet with Coach B me coach coach white and we're going to put together a plan and we're going to attack this this bye like it's we're not going to be laidback and relaxed we're going to attack this bye and we're going to get ready for uh Indiana Run game obviously had some issues throughout the game were they selling out against it is that why you had opportunities deep uh yeah they were doing some good things with fronts changing changing the front structure around but uh you know uh like I said the first half was just a lot of self-inflicted wounds you know guys not getting off on backers uh Missing blocks but hey we're clean it up we clean it up in the second half we're going to clean it up next week and we're going to be good what was it like to to celebrate our first it was awesome it was really cool you know to get him his first win I mean that's that's awesome that's huge for this program and it's huge for him awesome thank you
