so much everybody thank you so much for coming this is the Jazz combo concert I am Adam Don I am the director of all three of these groups and uh I want to tell you a little bit about the sort of the design of the three groups the first group that you heard combo 2 the uh the thought behind that group was to keep it a little bit more conventional and traditional trying to build up the foundation of the the Canon of jazz and Jazz standards and that sort of stuff um and then moving into combo one which is a little bit more of an advanced group where there was a lot of um creative organization in the music making itself where that you you know you heard you know Pure Imagination for example which is their reinterpretation of that which takes a little bit of advanced you know arranging skill and Harmony knowledge and and music theory stuff so that's the thought behind that group and then so that's a little bit more Progressive and then this group is more experimental this is taking it even further sort of to the limits of the way jazz is organized improvisational music is organized so that's just a little bit of what we're doing and how we how we structured these these groups that last tune was called don't eat the fries well because normally you would eat the fries wouldn't you fries fans out there um to give you a little idea on some of the stuff that we we play is you know notated like a lot of traditional music is notated in sort of broad format um this has just some thematic ideas that I was playing um and the next one we're going to do is um more of a cerebral kind of vibe called simple syrup and this is based off of these short little uh eight note Motif motifs little fragments uh this is simple syrup [Music] [Music] n [Music] n [Music] h [Music] [Music] [Music] thank you so you probably have recognized although they they planned some costume changes that didn't really work out but over here on Keys is Nick alorn give it up for Nick he also plays saxophone I don't know if you could tell it's the same guy over here uh we've got Ted Lukie on on base he's been serving all the groups so thank you Ted and back here on drums we have Hans Ferris I want to thank you all again for coming we're going to play one more tune for you I wanted to thank the production crew as well couldn't do it without them they work for me as well setting up all the production elements of this the audio the video all of it it's an immense amount of work and I really appreciate their dedication to to putting on these conerts I couldn't do it without them I used to do it all by myself and it was nearly impossible but now it's wonderful the support so thank you guys appreciate it so this one is um very experimental Hold On Tight this one is what we call a forest it's basically a graphical kind of system for organizing music this it's this whole system is called Forest Duos so there's these little these Big Blocks that are kind of bigger themes and then these small ones which are little Duets that we're going to kind of you know split up in different ways uh but this one is the Thematic kind of thread for this is science and nature this the first part is called is about birds um and then we move toward ants and then we move into manatees and then we move into what is do AT3 what that's do that's Bas and yeah yeah and then four this this fourth big area is called uh mycelium and what's melium again Ted roots of mushroom the roots of the root system of a mush of mushrooms and fungi uh under the forest floor and then we kind of end it with coming back to carbon and it's you know the most basic form or component of of life so um that's how we're thinking about these things see if you can pick any of those things out as you're listening but um this will do it for us the evening so thanks so much again for coming [Music] a [Music] f n [Music] [Music] a [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] n [Applause] oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] h e [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] a [Music] a [Music] a [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] a [Music] thanks again that does it for us
