Meet BioNTech’s pioneers: Sebastian Hymson

[Music] my name is Sebastian heimson and I lead a clinical characterization for BNT 221 one of the main reasons that I initially applied for the job at bch and have worked here for the past 3 years is the incredibly diverse toolbox that we have in our scientific toolkit at biontech in addition to that really the people here have kept me wanting to come back every day uh and and grow as a scientist but also as a personal onside them I find that biontech is a a very diverse and inclusive workplace I feel like a lot of people from different perspectives and backgrounds are are a part of our conversations at work and also our personal conversations maybe on the side which is really important to me because I learn so much and I feel like I've grown so much personally from those different connections I've been able to maintain diversity inclusion really means to me not just tolerating the differences between each other but accepting them and embracing them we don't have to uh change who we are on the outside just to be accepted at work we are embraced for you know who you are and how you're showing up that day whether it be 5% because it's not a great day to 100% when it's your best day one uh moment at bch that has been really special to me as a member of the lgbtq plus Community was the discussion series me and my colleague Lauren uh got to run last June as a part of pride month and what was really amazing to me was how people came together to just hear about each other's perspectives and experiences and understand how their interactions uh with other colleagues really influences the the type of work environment that we have one personal value that I feel is really reflected within biontech is Passion feel like we all have the passion to uh want to be our best selves at work how can we uh improve both professionally and personally to uh be able to support each other be able to make each day that much better than the last if I to describe biontech in one word I would use the word all embracing that means from the scientific perspective we Embrace every type of modality that we can to treat the different patients we're all embracing in our people people show up how they are at the door they come in and they're allowed to be that and really I think that combination of just being so open-minded both from a scientific but also from a personal perspective creates an environment that's incredibly Innovative incredibly creative and Incredibly well set to really make the biggest change in our patients lives
