Duke Slater was a true football Pioneer starring at the University of Iowa from 1918 to 1921 Slater was a three-time all big 10 tackle who helped lead the Hawkeyes to an undefeated 7 and0 season in 1921 notably knocking off a n rockney Le Notre Dame team on a 20 game win streak and claiming a share of the national title Slater would go on to play professionally for 10 seasons becoming the longest tene afan afan American to play during that era in 1951 Slater became the first African-American to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2021 Slater was made a permanent part of Iowa's history as they named the field after him at kennick Stadium now we recognize Duke Slater as a big impact Pioneer class of [Music] 2024
