welcome back everybody I'm Jerry with du bears talk and today we're going to be talking about Chris Williams the newest addition to the Chicago Bears coming from the Cleveland Browns we traded away a sixth uh for a seventh and Chris Williams this just happened the other day um Chris Williams has kind of been a guy that's bounced around the NFL so far but he has a just a Breakout game of in a preseason game of course but against the Minnesota Vikings and shows out and it was enough for the Bears dealing with some injuries and some issues with depth at the defensive tackle position they go out and get Chris Williams Chris Williams uh played defensive tackle all four years at Wagner University which is a small uh D1 FCS College in New York um so Wagner the Wagner Seahawks I believe but Chris Williams measures at 6'2 302 lbs he's 26 years old so he it he is younger uh born in Brooklyn New York so probably chose that College obviously being you know close to home and uh went undrafted to the Chiefs kind of sat on their practice squad back and forth ended up on the Colts and made it to a practice squad didn't really do really much at all uh then he ended up going to the Browns um and he's been there I think since January he was around there on the practice squad for a while and obviously um that was enough for the Bears to go after him so just some a few little points uh 488 20- yard shuttle is decent especially for how long ago uh that he did that he has gotten a lot stronger since he uh did the shuttle he ran a 51 940 so not the not the fastest blazing speed but if you saw uh his performance against the Vikings he did look really quick out there granted against a bunch of backups but he did look pretty quick only 23 reps on the bench press which is decent um but the big thing is 35 in arms you can't build arm strength or arm length to be longer and that's incredible I think it's like 34 and 78 or 34s or whatever we just rounded up 35 in arms is pretty phenomenal um so we'll go over his preseason stats and kind of the reason that you might even be watching this video is his phenomenal performance most of the stats from the preseason him only having two games in the preseason pretty much all of them are from this game against the Vikings except he did have a couple tackles and a QB hit or two against the Packers and first game uh but he had the two sacks he had the two tackles for a loss he had the huge play where he ran down uh the Vikings quarterback from behind and did this like flying dive thing like this where he Dove after the quarterback he's able to rip the ball out and it rolls out of the back of the end zone for a safety so obviously that's like his biggest highlight play but he did really shine in that game um so I think obviously that is probably the big reason that they went for him I also think it's cuz he's kind of a tweener can kind of do that Justin Jones role uh that flu might be missing out on obviously we lose him but I know he likes those guys that could move out to Edge they could move inside and he's played defensive tackle most of his career but when he really flashed was on the edge so it proves that he he can do both and then um we we'll get into his college stats and then we'll we'll go for more on what Chris Williams can do for the bears but uh 105 tackles only six sacks two uh 22 tackles for a loss and three forced fumbles on top of the three forced fumbles he actually also has blocked three field goals in college uh so another interesting stat just about Chris Williams and about um you know his career so far so moving on to the Bears Matt eberl did say that he is just going to be a rotational piece obviously if he's blocking field goals like that I would assume he'll be in on field goal team uh with picking going down with an injury it would open up room for him to play and kind of be the replacement there so I think that could be a good reason as to why he would play and he will get time and as I said he mentioned that he's going to be a rotational piece if your starters are getting tired in Javon Dexter and Andrew Billings you're going to need some of your backups to come in and uh you know Tire the defense out and I think the flexibility of having this guy move out to the edge uh with you know his kind of increase in speed that he's had and also being able to play the interior at 62302 I think is a huge uh a huge thing for him so a lot of these pros and cons kind of go together the vers versatile and quick for size um I think is just kind of kind of an like those two go hand inand he he's versatile because he's quick in size if you go to the cons I put he's a tweener too I think that could be a con for another team I feel like there's not as many uh defensive coordinators that take advantage of that tweener role and moving a guy around like that so it might not be that can kind of hurt the the player because you look at a guy like Andrew Billings where he's just this big massive dude that can anchor in you know hold on and then shoot the Gap and kind of find where the hole that he needs to go he is not going to really do anything in the pass rush game he might get a sack or two but he's not really going to do much there whereas if you have the quicker more elusive Shifty finesse guys that can uh you know really get into the back field and make plays you know those people will excel it ex excel at that too but when you're in between it's kind of tough because you might not be the you can't really be the greatest at both rare occasions you know a guy will you know your Lawrence Taylor khil Mack was very good at doing both but stuff like that so he's quick off the snap too um we mentioned men that in our last video about I believe it would have been Hardy Daniel Hardy or whoever I did last uh oh no derell Taylor derell Taylor was also very quick off the staff not the snap not as bad for Chris Williams with his uh freakish you know um like what we talked about with derell Taylor where he he was just kind of an animal and he would only go for the pass rush this is not a problem with Chris Williams and also his great work worth uh work ethic apparently tough to put those words together but he does have great work ethic and he's been clearly trying to find a spot on one of these teams and wants to be able to make an impact and showed that he can in that Vikings game so Yan um he he is again just a bit of a tweener he it's I've kind of already explained as to why I think that could be a con I think for Matt eberl's offense or defense I think it could be a positive um but you kind of have to know how to use them so I think for any other team or even just being really great at one of or the other of you know what we talked about I think could be an issue uh poor pass rush tape so far is really just because you don't really have any other information on what this guy can do and we haven't really been able to see anything else other than the two preseason games that he played in and there was no shining in previous years and preseason um so he and that kind of leads to why he's bounced around the NFL he's really he hasn't made it on a on a practice squad and and stayed there for a long amount of time uh specifically on the Chiefs and the Colts so like if you know if you're not making it there could be a good reason to think you know maybe you know there's a reason people don't usually just miss on guys multiple years in a row multiple organizations so not really a con towards Chris Williams but just towards uh maybe your opinion of him coming in and what he can do um but let me know what you think of Chris Williams down below I think the signing is great when I found out more about you know it could be because Zack Pickins is going to be gone for a while I definitely understood it more because we're going to need some depth in the defensive line especially just cutting Keith Rand off where I did everything you need to know about him I think he deserves a chance somewhere too I think he'll end up back on the Bears practice squad but that's a different video um so yeah let me know what you think of Chris Williams down below like the video if you liked it and subscribe for more I always do these videos if the Bears acquire a player um just to let you know more about the player and what he can do for our team as well as his past and his career so that's going to be it for today thank you for watching and have a great day
