however the Stateline Heat Wave is also causing a unique event with the corn crops around the region and believe it or not corn growing in our Fields is sweating right now that's right just like us it's like if you're were to stay outside in the heat naturally you'd be sweating so the corn well does the same exact thing it's why this occurrence was named corn sweat so one local farmer says the crop is trying to stay cool in the face of extreme temperatures we want them to not have too much heat they're trying to dissipate the heat right now they're fighting off that that's why you you hear the meteorologists talk about corn sweat or Bean sweat but they're doing their job to try to stay cool in these temperatures as well but how does the phenomenon work your Weather Authority chief meteorologist Alice kersner is here to explain how corn sweats and how it can affect the environment Alex so all plants do this it's called transpiration they're drawing moisture out of the soil and then they release it through their leaves and then when you got a bit of a breeze coming through kind of helps pull some of that moisture away and as a result the moisture from the soil keeps getting drawn up through the stocks keeps emitting out into the air and that could lead to a huge boost in the humidity right next to those corn fields now that said like I mentioned all plants do this it's just corn is very very good at sweating or transpiration in general corn stocks especially mature ones can pump an additional gallon per day per stock into the air and that's what what leads to that almost tropical like moisture because we have so much corn going around us right now so you're looking at du points into the 80s that is extremely high and it's all thanks to the weather PL Pann lining up properly and the corn being at that mature level able to really release a lot of that moisture got cool Canadian dry air working in over the next couple days so that's really going to drop that dupoint temperature down so the corn still May sweat a little bit it's just not going to impact us as much right now so we're sweating the Cor sweating hopefully that hewa is over quite soon yes everybody is sweating but yes we are looking forward to a little bit of relief very important information Alex thanks for
