Sunday uh the September 8th and then Monday Night Football that week Jets at the ners ESPN and ABC on 720 NFL news to get to Drake may look the part in the preseason finale is it enough for him to be the starter in New England Damen Woody had these thoughts I think it's like a I going use a a BC where a conundrum for for the for the Patriots here because he did he looked good and I think this competition is closer than I some people might say I know people always when they look at quarterback competition they do they look at reps in practice that's usually like the the barometer of okay who's getting reps with the first team and so on and so forth but when I when I watch Drake May I'm like okay this dude is showing why he was picked number three in the draft you see the athletic ability you see the arm Talent all those type of things I think what I worry about in New England this is a very flawed roster it is a very flawed roster that's the overall argument behind not necessarily playing Drake May right away if he came in from day one and looked the part and was lighting it up in the classroom in the practice room and then out there on the field in the preseason games and the scrimmages and otherwise then start the dude but a week ago everyone was saying Gerard Mayo was saying yes this is jacobi's job he's the veteran he's got the experience this is his job to lose and now one really good performance give credit where credits do he did look good we're talking about Drake May being the starter I'm not sold on that this roster is not ready to win with anyone at quarterback right now I would not be in a rush to start Drake may let him absorb some mental reps on the sideline let him be in there on the huddles during timeouts and you see how a veteran prepares and reacts to things on the fly in the NFL let's give it some time in New England cuz even if Drake May comes out and plays like a pro bowler I don't know if that would even be good enough for New England to win seven eight nine 10 games this year I think the overall ceiling for this team is probably seven or eight at the absolute best and I'm probably being generous there for the New England Patriots so personally I would not be in a rush starting Drake May he's a project quarterback needs some time certainly looked good in the preseason finale and that should inspire a ton of confidence for 2025 202 six and Beyond up there in Foxboro college football season got underway on Saturday week zero action from Dublin Florida State coming in as the uh alienated team last year they were left out of the college football playoff how angry would they be to start out the season they did not look too good not too angry at all as Georgia Tech beats up the seminal 2421 this one right down to the wire to be fair with the rambling wreck a last minute field goal opport opportunity to win it he got it the yellow jacket it upet and C they found themselves a PO of gold at the end of their Irish rainbow got to love the Ireland stuff there at the end there 24-21 the final score Georgia Tech over ACC rival Florida State here's Georgia Tech head coach Brent key we have 100 guys 120 guys that play as one I mean it's a family in that locker room we got things to clean up the resiliency the toughness they showed that's exactly that's who I thought they were going to be and again Florida State takes the loss they're 0 and one on the season they'll meet up with Boston College in a week that game is back home 6:30 start time other games on the way Memphis California and SMU on the near-term schedule as for how his quarterback played in dju here's head coach Mike norell I thought DJ did some good things um you know I thought that was you really you know a great job there in in that fourth quarter drive you know had some fourth down calls had some you know you tougher situations and you know I thought he thought he delivered that moment again the Marquee game from week zero on Saturday morning into the afternoon Georgia Tech 24 Florida State 21 Montana State trailed by 17 points entering the fourth quarter on Saturday afternoon at New Mexico they were a nearly a two touchdown favorite in the game looked not the part throughout but 21 points in the fourth quarter 21 nothing fourth quarter margin has Montana State pulling the upset 35-31 Bobcats mov to 1 and0 New Mexico Lobos down to 0 and one close games across the board on Saturday for the most part SMU over Nevada 2924 and Delaware State hung in there against a heavily favored Hawaii Team final score there 35-4 it all sets us up for Thursday's kickoff for more college football action USF will visit St Thomas at 6 :00 North Carolina at Minnesota 7:00 on Fox North Dakota State the Bison battling the Buffs of Colorado out in Boulder 7:00 on ESPN Northern State at USD 7 o'clock on ESPN plus and Dakota Wesleyan at Dakota State Thursday night as well 7:05 the start time back to North Dakota State in Colorado in coach Prime Courtney Cronin pretty darn concerned over some reporting from the media circles there in Boulder a Denver Post reporter has been banned from asking questions moving forward at the programs of press conferences there here's Cronin on why that should concern a lot of people I think that Colorado made this a bigger deal than they needed to if you don't want to answer questions from anybody whether it's a columnist whether it's a beat reporter whether it's a TV reporter whoever it is you don't have to answer the question but to go out and say that you are banned from asking questions is a terrible look on the program because it looks like they can't take on criticism ISM my biggest fear with all of this is that if and when this team struggles this year what happened to The Denver Post columnist is going to become common place elsewhere where Dion doesn't want to answer a question from somebody okay that person's banned from asking questions not a good look across the board for Colorado we'll dive into that more in just a little while but the matter of facts the meat and potatoes of that situation Denver Post reporter has written some things that might be construed as unkind maybe overly critical in the eyes of those at Colorado in regards to the program the expectations the attitude and the culture there in uh Boulder and obviously that's not fun when you're reading that as a member of the program as a member of the school as a coach as a player it's not fun to read that but again freedom of press freedom of speech it all plays hand in hand and I agree with Courtney Cronin there you don't agree with what the guy's saying just say next question no thank you not going to answer that next question move on but this appears really really sensitive right now and who's to say somebody else might not get banned moving forward out in Boulder college football against slate coming up on Thursday USF at St Thomas North Carolina in Minnesota North Dakota State at Colorado Northern State opens the season at South Dakota down in Vermilion 7 o'clock on ESPN plus Dakota Wesley and at Dakota State 7:05 all of those games between 6 and 7 on Thursday Baseball it's all here on ESPN 102.3 and am1000 kso sou fall Sports leader right back with you on hour number one leading off this work week and we're counting you down to kickoff for your favorite college football teams this week of course we're going to be chatting with August Ana head football coach Jerry oy later in the week we've got USD head coach Bob neelon SDSU head coach Jimmy Rogers and of course right now none other than head coach Jim glowski year number two guiding the USF kougar football program here in sou Falls coach it's a blast to have you as always hope the offseason has treated you well I hope camp in this preseason has treated you better than that how you doing I'm doing great great to be back on excited for new season and we're excited to have you it was so much fun to have you all throughout last year preseason inseason postseason I can't tell you again how much we appreciate the time and I know all the fans out there for cougar football look forward to this each and every week we're staying in the same slot 11:20 on Mondays this year to feature your program coach let us in let us behind the curtain how have things looked how have things gone through camp and what's the mentality like here in sou Falls for cougar football yeah we just pretty much wrapped up a couple days ago and now obviously we're into game week uh taking off on Wednesday to head to the Twin Cities and kicking off 24 season on Thursday night at 6 o' against the St Thomas Tommy so uh great opportunity for us you know just another opportunity to get back on the field and kind of put you last year behind us and we've been through that time and time again and I I think the biggest thing for us is we've had a really good camp we stayed relatively healthy and um we've got some leadership this year 20 plus senior years versus last year I think we had three or four and so just a whole different vibe the staff's been together for a for a whole year so there's some camaraderie some consistency there and just really excited to get this thing going and and see what we can accomplish and of course I want to go ahead and feature the staff as well there's changes each and every year to staff to players to roster to support staff as well any coaching staff changes this offseason that mov the needle for you in the program you know we we we kind of have our guys that are quote unquote older guys and our younger guys our younger guys are you know recent grads are relatively new in the coaching profession so those guys typically change over at a higher rate we had a couple guys that did leave our program and had some really good full-time opportunities and so we added a couple guys by the name of kylin Dickerson coaching our corners and George Dutcher our tight end Coach and then Jacob toot a guy that played here a couple years ago at USF as an Alum came back and he's working with our defensive end so um to go along with Xavier Jackson who plays running back for the storm uh he's back again for a second year so that's our younger crew guys and then our older guys um we've got Alex Johnson who's our new lineer Back special teams coordinator but for the most part he's the only new addition he and I worked together at man years ago so some familiarity there but other than that pretty much intact same system same type of development process throughout the course of the offseason so looking forward to what we can uh move the needle with that USF cougar football kicks off the season coming up Thursday night 6 o'clock at St Thomas on the road week two Saturday September the 7th at Northern State 6:00 as well home opener circleid Market on your calendar here in sou Falls Bob Young field 1:00 Saturday September 14th as you marry the Marauders come to town to open up the home slate for USF cougar football of course there's some names to know and there's some names you already know coming into the season Carter slouse as well as Cal Botsford a couple players to watch for you who else comes back for you that uh you're looking forward to uh installing them in this leadership role ahead of this 2024 season coach well there's three guys that were named captains on the offensive side of the ball and and Adam Mullen is a kid who's been here for quite a long time he's a sixth year graduate student going to get his master's degree here in December at quarterback he provides outstanding leadership he's back uh he was kind of competing at the quarterback position with Cam Dean who started most of the games last year so excited about the quarterback position some experience there some depth uh at running back Dylan rnan named a captain a senior running back for us just a phenomenal work ethic great kid tough Runner it was an all-conference Accolade kind of kid last year so excited to have him back and then at tight end Travis yonke between Travis yonke and Mark Leonard two seniors um Travis another graduate student uh Dylan's a graduate student we're going to have 15 guys getting their master's degrees this year so awesome to see those covid kids as I like to call them take advantage of that extra year of Eligibility or at least extra year of college and and move towards a master's degree so that's pretty that's pretty impressive so just the overall maturity of that offensive unit most the offensive line is back you mentioned Carter souse so feel pretty good about that the experience and the depth coming back on that side of the ball and of course early season as good of a camp as you can have there's always competition at least on really good rosters you kind of look for the competition so I'm sure there's still some areas some positions that might be up for grabs you're looking for somebody to go ahead and take the Reigns and say I'm the starter I'm the guy I need to be on the field you got to prove it though and we'll see a lot of that on Thursday night for the matchup against St Thomas what are a few positions that you and the staff have the eye on that uh might not be yet solidified on the roster well you know at this point we're we're pretty much set but I'll tell you what like at the safety position there are six kids there and possibly even eight that we felt really good about that all played well during fall Camp so that's really important just because that's your depth for special teams you know a lot of those guys will be regulars on special teams if they're not a regular on the offense or the defensive side of the ball so I feel good about that spot but uh kind of settled on three or four guys that'll get them bulk of the Reps on Thursday night but all those guys will see reps and action on special teams and then I really felt like in the defensive line we had some pretty good depth especially at defensive end where we had some guys um returning from injuries some new guys Isaiah Ward's a name to to know he's a senior a transfer from Arkansas Pine Bluff really had a nice Camp along with Connor rice and Francis kumy two seniors back that missed all of last year from injuries so just some exciting developments there with with guys that have been in the program that maybe aren't household names but have been in sou Falls uniforms for quite a few years that really excited to see those guys finally be healthy and get their shot USF cougars.com your place to follow along check out the roster look at the schedule and also get some tickets this year for USF cougar football here at Bob Youngfield in soue Falls we're talking with now secondy year head coach Jim glowski the USF cougar program uh you mentioned quarterback briefly with Adam Mullen Camden Dean uh you don't have to show me your cards if you already don't have them shown out yet but the starter in terms of who's playing who's getting the knot on Thursday night where does that stand right now if you'd like to share yeah you know I'm a sucker for drama normally but I not this year I mean I Cam's our guy he'll start on on Thursday night and then I I would expect that that Adam will make an appearance you know we'll see how the game goes but I I think you really are fortunate if you have two guys you know Adam won quite a few football games here as a starting quarterback before I arrived and obviously cam came on the same last year and they both have their own skill sets you know I think um they both kind of do what they do and they do it well and I think as the game kind of develops the nature of the game we'll see how that pans out but yeah cam will take the Reigns first and and we'll let him go out there in the first series and we'll go from there very exciting season ahead for USF cougar football lastly coach before we let you go St Thomas Thursday night talk about the opportunity the challenge what stands out on film about the Tommy as you gear it up for the season opener yeah you know it's kind of interesting Glenn Caruso is the head football coach man he's starting his 17th year there which is crazy because he and I were on the same staff at the University of South Dakota when Ed Myer Court was the head football coach uh back in the early 2000s so I've known Glenn for quite a long time gerro Dodson another USD former player and Coach is on that staff so a lot of familiarity with those guys we we coached together in the past but does a great job ironically I think if I heard the stat right they have the longest home winning streak in all of college football Reg regardless of division uh it's been since 2016 since they lost a home football game so you know they're well coached they were a dynamic dynamic Dynamite division 3 football program and as you mentioned just recently transitioned to the FCS level so I think this might be their third or fourth year now at the FCS level they did play the coyotes last year and I think they they took a loss 24-0 if I'm not mistaken last year down in Vermillion so it's a team that like a lot of the teams at the FCS level they're going to be bigger and stronger than us probably and maybe more talented but we're going to have to go in there and play a hard out and find a way to get that game close in the fourth quarter and hopefully we can sneak out a win and certainly a lot to look forward to this year USF cougar football follow along USF cougar.com that's head coach Jim glowski coach always rooting for you you guys know that best of luck this season we'll talk to you in a week thanks for the time today absolutely appreciate your time have a great week all right you I'm excited for you I know that you got a lot going on you're heading out to Colorado in the near future you'll be back here in this neck of the woods before long and teeing it up as part of the Sanford International uh how have things been going for you within the last year we talked to you last year around this time as well so give us a little bit of a recap of how the game has been and how everything's been for you as you're competing out there on the champions tour yeah well it's been it has been it's been a very eventful year uh you know obviously been out on the road a lot um you know I got a full-time job so I've been uh been in the office like I am today uh kind of keeping an ey eye on the mortgage rates but uh yeah the golf team is uh just like everybody whether it's you know me or junior or somebody's been playing a long time or just picking up the game you know it's it's got its es and flows it comes and goes and so I've had stretches where I've played very well this year um and then stretches where I just struggled kind of finding the right kind of mix you know you got to you know drive it good putt bad you know putt good drive it bad you know it's like you you got to try to find the the appropriate mix but yeah it's been uh it's been an unbelievably uh you know good year for me you know I got to play in the Sanford then I played at uh Pebble uh in the peer Insurance championship and then just recently just got back from playing in the senior British Open not Cary which was an unbelievable experience and obviously a lot of highlights along the way since you've gotten this opportunity uh to be a professional golfer uh what are some big areas that you have seen that you've grown it doesn't necessarily have to be hey I've gotten better on my short game I've gotten better off the T boox but mentality wise experience-wise where do you think the biggest areas of growth are for you yeah I think that's a very good point yeah I mean obviously the golf is golf uh but yeah the kind of between the ears is really where you need to uh you know uh Excel uh when you get to the this level and obviously there's certainly levels above me but yeah I mean if you take some of the best in the world you know like a Scotty Sheffer guys like that that you watch you know week in week out I mean just uh just B basically unphased you know they're they're for the most part they're out there and uh you know they kind of got their screws tighten down mentally and um it's really just a matter of you know of just kind of acceptance U and you know there are days it's easier to do that and days it's not but um you know you got to try to play golf with no consequence uh and when you kind of get into that mode where you can play you know swing with no consequence and point it at your target um you know the scores go down and your results get better talking with Ryan jansa area PGA golfer here on this Monday edition of overtime I wanted to pick your brain about another part of being a pro golfer and that's kind of stringing those rounds together we see it at the highest level of the PGA whether it's Rory tiger or anybody else you're rooting for and following they put together a good round they come out the next day flat they come out flat they put together a great round the following day everybody's hoping to finish strong just how hard is it in your estimation to string those quality rounds together and stay in the game uh day over day yeah you know uh the guys that are doing at an elite level uh honestly for even guys you know that are playing at my level are just they're just we're just flabbergasted by the ability to continue to play the travel everything that goes into it the team that they have put together assembled on the road uh you know to be able to be that consistent over that many weeks is just remarkable um you know you know lot to talk about money on the PG tour but you know if you look at these guys I mean the time and energy they put into it uh you know it's just it's incredible but yes to your point about stringing the rounds together yeah if you know people say oh they came out flat it almost always comes down to the putter it truly does you know they're going to drive it as good as they always do they always hit pretty good shots in there but when they get their putter hot and they stay you know keep the putter hot for three four days they're going to shoot really low numbers you know if they come out they're just not making as many punts I mean that's really what separates kind of the you know the guy that finished his first and the guy that finished his 10th they probably both hit it just as good but the guy that finished first just out puttered the the guy that finished 10th talk with Ryan jansa area PGA golfers set to make his second appearance at the Sanford International next month here at mini haa Country Club in soue Falls that runs September 9th through the 15th and again more info sford international.com Ryan when it comes to last season's opportunity uh to play in the sford international what experience uh do you think you gain from that what are some memorable takeaways from last year yeah well just the opportunity to play um you know in the tournament to begin with was you know was completely like a childhood dream come true you know Davis Tren and you know everybody on the Sanford team uh you know everybody in the board of directors that came out supported me all the people in sou Falls that came out I was just shocked at the number of people that came out to support me I'm looking forward to you know similar uh response this year yeah and I'm going to be better you know last year I you know I shot even par for three days uh didn't really know what to expect obviously my first real Professional Event uh felt like I kind of you know held my own out there but you know definitely played uh you know I was nervous you know I was nervous to start with I was kind of nervous throughout the round and then as I got into it I played pretty good had a lot of good shots but you know I'm looking for a different outcome this year I'm I'm a lot more focused on uh you know the process and not quite so uh overwhelmed with the uh experience but yeah just completely blessed and honored to be have an opportunity to be back out there uh Mina Dave Swift and His team everybody out there just puts on an absolute top-notch event in fact if you talk to most the guys on the Champions T it's probably one of the events they look forward to the most throughout the year which is exciting obviously being from soup Fall's native and again the Sanford International just two weeks away 14 days to be exact September 9th through the 15th here at minihaha Country Club Ryan what are a couple adjectives that you would personally use to describe the course there at minihaha how challenging it is the twists and the turns and some other things that might be unique here to sou Falls yeah you know the interesting thing about minaha is that it it you doesn't put quite as much of a premium on the long hitters necessarily um you know there's there's only three par FS um and then there's a lot of holes that force you to lay up uh which you know kind of brings the field together which is why you see such a competitive outcome in most cases um greens are perfect uh you know probably some of the best that we see on the Champions Tour all year um they'll be firm fast um and David is team will have the golf course in perfect shape and ready for everybody that shows up um so yeah there's you know every Golf Course has its challenges you know Minah you know when it you know when they if they get their weather right you know if we get some rain it'll be a different deal but if they are able to make it firm and fast the golf course can play very very difficult and again Ryan jansa Our Guest here on this Monday edition of overtime uh you've gotten the ventor too sandwiched in between now and then so let me ask you this when it comes to how you're feeling these days what's working needs work where's the good parts of the game what are a few parts of the game that you're really focused on improving ahead of this uh uh upcoming tournament here in sou Falls yeah you know last year I drove it poorly um which is typically probably one of the best parts of my game um and so this year you know I've been driving it much better feeling very confident with the driver uh the good news is the putter is feeling really really good which like I mentioned earlier is kind of the key to the success you know you got to be able to you got to be able to get them on the greens but once you get them on you got to C capiz on those opportunities so um you know for me I'm a pretty consistent iron player you know I always need to work on wedging it better you know hit the ball closer to the hole that helps you know if you got to make six-footers versus 60f Footers you're going to score better but uh yeah so driving good you know feeling pretty confident uh coming in and uh like I said you just like you said earlier you know it's a day-to-day battle you know sometimes you just wonder which guy's going to show up and uh I'm just hoping the right guy shows up for those three days here in sou Falls and certainly a ton to
