hello my name is Michael Palfrey and I'm an osteopath that feel well-being centre near Reddington Berkshire I'd like to talk to you about a condition called patellar tendinopathy more commonly referred to as jumpers knee this condition is quite common in people who as the name suggests do a lot of jumping but also runners footballers dancers are all particularly prone to patellar tendinopathy it's characterized by pain stiffness and swelling just under the kneecap usually affecting one leg but sometimes both there are a number of treatment options available for patellar tendinopathy these include physiotherapy Osteopathy at the application of heat and ice and exercise programs the evidence suggests that exercise programs can be very effective in treating patellar tendinopathy but if this fails sometimes you can be offered a steroid injection or in extreme cases surgery before you go down the path of having those sorts of treatments you can try a non-invasive and highly effective therapy which we have here at field well-being centre which is called shock wave therapy this can in a very short space of time improve pain stiffness and function in the knee to a considerable degree we normally apply three treatments one week apart but only ever do a maximum of six treatments and in my experience with treating a number of people with this condition using shockwave therapy they often get very good results so if you have jumpers knee patellar tendinopathy please give Phil well-being centre a call and we'll discuss your options
