Can the Rams tap into Colby Parkinson's LATENT ability in 2024?

Intro welcome back guys I'm Jake ellenbogen today we're going to be talking about Colby Parkinson and my thoughts on him going into 2024 before we dive into it be sure to like subscribe and comment be sure to follow me on all social media at JK Bogan including Instagram let's dive into it so Colby Parkinson for those of Colby Parkinson you who don't know uh he last played in college in 2019 was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks which I've also called tight end Purgatory there was really just not a lot of use with him out of the Seattle Seahawks and you know this is somebody in only two starting Seasons he finished with over 80 receptions uh 1100 plus yards and 12 touchdowns and uh then of course after that you know you look at what he did with Seattle he had one year way of 322 receiving yards um his career high of course is two touchdowns which he tied um you know this past year but he really wasn't utilized and I mean they had will dley there they had Noah Fant they had Gerald Everett um so plenty of guys you know that could be taking away snaps including I believe Greg Olsen as well so the 25-year-old Colby Parkinson what does he bring to the Rams why did they go out and get him um well I mean let's first off start by saying this guy had seven receptions in his first two years in the NFL and then he had 50 in the last two years which I still think he wasn't utilized enough Seattle did not use him correctly okay this is somebody at 6'7 and 260 lb who's a big body but knows how to go up not only High Point the football but box out defenders in doing so he does a great job of that we saw it it was very evident towards the end of the season they used him the right way and they won a game because of it against the Tennessee Titans where he boxed out his man and came down with a game basically a game-winning TT tou down so with Colby Parkinson and with Wheres the fit the Rams where's the fit well first off I mean Shane Waldren who was with the Rams who's part of Shawn mcvey's coaching Tree in a in a sense um went over to Seattle and he became the offensive coordinator okay so Shane Waldren knows working with Shawn McVey you know he he they do some of the similar things and Colby Parkin working in that offense McVey likely looked at that as yeah he's going to fit pretty nicely over an LA he's going to fit nicely in my system now everyone keeps talking about him like he's a blocking receiver he became a blocking tight end he became a much better blocker this past year and I think you know watching the tape he can definitely help in that regard and I think they are going to try to run the football a little bit more but let's not forget this is somebody who had 11 touchdowns in college somebody that could stretch the field as a seam Buster threat over the middle I am not out on Colby Parkinson's receiving ability as a matter of fact I'm very bullish on his receiving ability Tyler Higg is going to start out the season on the physically unable to perform list you have Davis Allen who is going into his second year and while I'm excited for that I still think Colby Parkinson with a little bit more experience will help and then Hunter long who's barely caught any passes in the league I think he has like five catches in his entire career so Colby Parkinson by virtue of that is the most experienced pass catching tight end on this roster so I wouldn't be so quick to just put him in an ink as just a blocking tight end I hear that all the Parkinson as a blocking TE time he's going to be a blocking tight end what does that mean you know a guy who was a blocking tight end was you know Billy badima now of course the Rams also used him in the receiving game a little bit as well but he was meant to be a blocking tight end a guy that was meant to be a blocking tight end whether he should have been or not and he had two major injuries at Oregon Johnny Mt okay blocking tight end could still make plays but predominantly known the NFL as a blocking tight end okay Bryson Hopkins I don't know why they used him there he got much better but Bryson Hopkins was a very very good receiving tight end in college and a great Prospect coming out however they used him as a blocking tight end and and that is what he was so Kobe Parkinson is not a blocking tight end he is a well-rounded player that has just not been utilized correctly he got a three-year deal from the Rams has a huge opportunity here he's only 25 years Parkinsons potential old I'm really excited to see just what this guy can do he's got Matthew Stafford throwing the ball he's playing off guys like Cooper cup and puka AA and you know tutu Atwell who can stretch the field with his speed and Demarcus Robinson not to mention the Run backs and Kiren Williams and of course you know newcomer Blake corm an offensive line that's going to help and of course when Tyler higgy comes back that's going to open up opportunities as well people might look at it the other way as that'll take away opportunities I think Parkinson is in the driver seat to have quite the season I I have him around 500 to 600 receiving yards and I think that is that's pretty good I mean if you were to have a career high in receiving yards and receptions and touchdowns that shouldn't come as a surprise he has 57 receptions for his career I wouldn't be surprised if he had more than that this year alone he has 618 receiving yards I would never rule out him going over that because I think he's he has the potential to do so will he that's the question and I do think more closer to 500 is more realistic but I won't say it's impossible and his four touchdowns for his career total he should honestly he should surpass that I think the thing about Parkinson is you can use them all over the field in line you can use them flexed out wide you can use him as an HB back he's got the athleticism to play all over the field he's got the athleticism as far as just going up and high pointing the football to help you in the red zone and he can help you over the middle he's going to be a chain mover he's going to be somebody who can you know make plays after the catch as well so I think when you're looking and every year we see it you know you'll you'll play you'll be playing like f football and you're be like where did this guy come from why is he rated so high you know like I I mean he was kind of a nobody and now you're saying cuz he went to another team yeah that's the way it works we see it all the time these guys just kind of come out of nowhere but in reality they were always there they were just underutilized and in a league where you just have talent Every Which Way that makes sense however a position that is far from having talent every which way it doesn't make sense so Seattle did not do Colby Parkinson any favors I will continue to pound the stump on that logic because I really believe that but I think the ramps are going to we'll see what ends up happening but I do think he's going to end up being the starter it's why I had him going first in this series of all the tight ends we're probably just going to stick with Parkinson Allen and of course do a Higby one and then Hunter long cuz I think he's going to make the 53 um if you guys wanted to see a a c one or or whoever um I guess if majority you know went crazy for it I would do it but I think it's along the lines of you know dresser win where we kind of know those guys aren't going to make the team nothing against those guys they could absolutely make the practice squad Miller Forest stall as well but I just think it would be ridiculous to do an entire video about them and only have like 200 viewers right so um I don't feel like doing that Drake and that's the thing Drake Stoops has become kind of a you know a I'd say a fan favorite which is what led to me putting that out there um but I still didn't feel great Outro about it I like the views that we got from Xavier Smith I'm trying to make this relevant for you guys I don't want you guys to just be tuning in to just complete nothing and I'm just pumping stuff out whether it's good or bad that will never be the case on this channel but Parkinson is a no brainer and I'm really excited to see this guy roll because I think he is going to be a great fit for the Rams and I just can't wait to see him get going and I think just you know one thing I can't stand is just a a fan of evaluation um you know a fan of Player Development a fan of really building a team and growing a team I cannot stand to see a guy like Colby Parkinson kind of sit there in purgatory um you know with the Seahawks behind dley behind Noah Fant and Gerald Everett and so forth and not really be able to Showcase what he can do I mean he was a what fourth round uh draft pick nothing too crazy there but you know he's got a lot of talent he had that at Stanford he has that now so hopefully the Rams can get the most out of him we'll see what ends up happening but that's what I got for you guys let me know in the comment section below what you guys think about Colby Parkinson are you excited now I'll be honest with you I L love this move when they made it I defended it a lot of people were upset they didn't understand why we were spending this much money or or who he even was but I'm telling you guys it's going to work out just got to trust me on Colby Parkinson but again very curious what you have to say drop in the comment section below that's going to do it for me next video will be Davis Allen who I was also very high on when the Rams drafted him and I still am and uh I'll see you guys in the next video take care folks later do you love talking about the Rams the NFL or just want to be a part of a community join my
