for the first time this season we welcome you to the Bulldog Scouting Report I'm Mark James happy to have you with us and we are thrilled to death to have our brand spank and new athletic director Tyler Phillips with us uh welcome to God's Country Coach yeah glad to be here glad to be a bulldog well you you've been on the job now for a little over a month or so and I know that we've got to know one another and U an impressive background if I may a very successful basketball coach at uh at South Spencer see more and give us some other highlights from your career well like I said glad to be here um origin from Mitchell grew up in Mitchell High School not not too far from here um went to uh had the opportunity to walk on at USI for a year um and I used to ter play very Loosely I never saw the floor I was I was a glorified uh glorified manager but I was there um transferred IOU and finished up there and then started my coaching career and uh started coaching uh Junior High football basketball and baseball when we were young and dumb enough to do that at 20 years old and um varsity basketball coach from there at South Spencer I left there and went to Seymour and um was there for three and um decided to get in administration became the the ad at Hower High School for the Last 5 Years and here we are ad at monobia I know you were a little surprised I was in on the committee that was part of the interview process and I referenced the interview you did I believe with the Greensburg paper and you you thought that athletic Administration was something that you wanted pretty early on in your your career this has always been the top of the mountain for me this is uh you know when people get into education they some want to become principls and some want to become superintendents and I uh being an athletic director is always the top of the mountain for me so this is uh this is it I know your program was well respected at Hower in the 5 years that you were there I talked to some athletic directors some your previous conference and they all were great very grateful you uh served as a mentor to four athletic directors last year in your conference so what was it that made this a challenge that you wanted to accept here at mobia high school well being at Mitchell we we ran into monobia a couple times and it was just it was a it was a school that was well respected uh it was to be honest it was a school that we feared because we knew kids were going to play hard uh kids were going to do things the right way um it was just a very well respected program and anytime I ran into schools like that I always just kind of circled it and made a middle note that better get a chance to be a part of that uh something I need to look into so when this job opened up I thought the way monobia does things and the way they they approach things with kids and and my my Outlook are are very similar so um thought Let's uh let's go talk to one another and see where we are and fortunate enough to be here I think one of the things that has to make this job attractive to you is that your predecessor Nick purea is still in the building he's our new vice principal and then you have a an experienced coach and an experienced administrator and uh and Mike Springer is your building principal absolutely so um after I was offered to position my first call was actually to Brian Lewis at the Issa and I just asked Brian for for his thoughts and he echoed what you just said he said you won't find a better guy to work for than Mike Springer so that was a big decision for me coming here is is having uh Mike as a principal and then also having Nick in the building so if I do run into things that I I haven't encountered yet which I have and I will continue to I've got Nick to uh to give a phone call to and lean on yeah those calls to North Brady and to Bryant Lewis are probably going to be answered because I know this place has a special place that his hard understandably so he had nothing but great things to say about monrovian and that carried a lot of weight I have a lot of respect for Brian and the that he has done and the job that he continues to do at the HSA so uh when he said that's a great place to be that was enough for me uh so uh we hit the ground running I mean sports are already underway after a couple of moratoriums in the summertime the most recent one end of July first of August uh teams have already started uh competing most notably our girls golf team they've gotten off to a great start everybody's practicing but uh tell us about the chance for the community to meet the Bulldogs Friday night if you will great opportunity tomorrow tonight we've got what we call meet the Bulldogs this is not anything new uh this is just something that we're going to carry on because it's such a great tradition uh tomorrow night Gates will open down at Gordon hyfield at 5:30 um at 6:00 we will start bringing teams out and we've got a little uh Team summary or synopsis of each team that we'll that you yourself actually we'll read over the PA and we'll bring the kids out and uh have a chance to see each team um shortly thereafter each team will have their parent meeting and then if teams choose I know tomorrow night football's going to have the green and white scrimmage uh I know soccer they're going to have some sort of scrimmage so um after those parent meetings if teams are practicing or having something open in the community they'll they'll go about and do that I know it's a busy time of year so people want to stay up to date on what's going on with bulldog Athletics what are some of the social media sites where they can follow your program well on X formerly known as Twitter we've got at Monrovia Sports uh we've got the Monro Athletics Facebook page Monrovia Sports um we got Monrovia athletics.com uh you can always call in here we the the bulldog app that I'll be updating throughout the year with schedule changes and whatnot um any one of those places and I'll try to post those as they come but any one of those places be a great place to start and most importantly how can people get those Sports passes for the year so we will sell sports passes tomorrow night uh you can pay we actually are offering a cash option this year uh you can pay with cash you can use a card um we'll be selling those again tomorrow night we'll sell them at the first we we'll sell them up until we're out at the uh at any home event so um varsity volleyball varsity football Junior High football junior high volleyball anything that we have going on at home we'll have those for sale I got to say those colors agree with you I'm I'm digging this green I I'm loving this green it's it's nice I've been pretty standard it's been black and white for five years so I like this splash of color well again uh we're excited to have you here uh welcome home and we mean that sincerely and we look forward to having you on Plenty with us I I look forward to being here I'm glad to be here thank you very much all right go dogs as we say for now I'm Mark James thanks for watching
