the Los Angeles colosia once home to the Olympic Games and many of the most memorable Moments in Sports and also home to the US SE Trojans who are prepared to fight on once again today maybe you need a little caffeine or maybe the sheer energy of this matchup will keep you wide awake as we know anything can happen when you kick off after dark as we'll see a squad from the Mountain West the Utah State aies taking on the 20 fifth rank team in the land the USC Trojans glad to have you with us for EA Sports college football I'm re Davis David Po and Jesse Palmer with me in the booth guys we are ready to tee it [Music] [Applause] up the Trojans will get it started with the opening kickoff he'll bring it back from inside the SP he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 so Utah State offense takes the field to start this game off and as we look out on the field here comes the man the man who makes it all go and that's this quarterback and he's big time that's why he's up for all these Awards he's he's known everybody knows exactly what he brings to the table he can run it he can throw it they're expecting a big day from this young fell and a good solid pick up there before the defense knocks him down well it's plays like that that will help this offense stay in Rhythm all game one like you can have that kind of success on first down running the football it just opens up your entire Playbook moving forward the aies come to the line in the hurry [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] up he'll pull it on the re nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry I'll tell you this is a hard defense to run against if you're going to go sideline to sideline because of that guy's speed at linebacker he can get all the way to the perimeter chase the quarterback down on the options and make the tackle behind the line of scrimmage aggressive you can barely hear yourself thinking here as they're trying to get this defense off to a good start and he was fortunate not to lose yardage on that play able to wedge it back to the line of [Music] [Music] gri Utah state will be forced to send out the punt team let's see if he can help the coverage team out with this one good job by the coverage unit to stop the Return Man so the USC Trojans offense headed on to to the field our first look at them today as we take a look at our impact players for this game David what do you look for to make an impact from your leaders your leaders not only have to lead the football team but they got to step up and make plays on the field keep everybody calm these guys typically do a really good job of it yeah Dave after burner's coming he's all the way down to the three showed it all on that run every time he touches the ball you can feel the excitement from this home crowd cuz Palmer He Can Go the Distance with that game breaking speed you're right David he's a special town I'll tell you these fans they come here to see this guy play cuz he has gamebreaking speed stuff you can't coach you saw it on that [Applause] play and and the Trojans are threatening on first and [Applause] goal he'll keep it himself and he'll take this into the end zone but hang on just a second flag down let's see what this is about we'll repeat the previous down but this time the offense has 10 more yards it has to cover that's reeled in it's branch goes out of bounds just short of the goal line and they'll be set up and in great position here and a big key on that throw to the slot receiver guys is putting the ball out in front the location of the throw is what helped that guy get extra yards after the catch theyve moved it forward to the two now it's second and goal they'll run the option he'll toss it he is going nowhere sto at the line of scrimmage and with the stuff there Jesse on second down this through a third to midrange you got two downs what are you thinking here maybe getting your quarterback out on the perimeter and giving him a run pass option see if you can get the defense in a bind after getting nothing on the last play will they try to run it in from the two on third down on the ground and to the end zone he goes touchdown Southern cow and I love the physicality of this offense it's third and goal it's money time I've got to be more physical than you and that's exactly what this offense just did put the ball on the ground and put it in the inside [Music] [Music] lining up to tack one more onto that [Applause] lead and the extra point makes it seven nothing quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and finish to deal with the short touchdown run from the two the kickoff team on the field as they'll send this one [Applause] away on the run from inside his own five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 Utah state has it back ready to go to work on offense knocked down at the 26 after ripping off 10 there well if at first you don't succeed try try again right it's been really hard for this offense in this game to run the football but they finally break off a big run there that could be the play they need to really generate momentum and get one game Utah State Up [Applause] Tempo quarterback Quick Pass to the receiver able to scr three yards out of that one somehow it's second and seven and these little touch passes man they're just the easiest completions ever for quarterbacks Palmer I bet you would have loved being able to just Flip It Forward that counts as to your completion percentage which is good and then it's all run after the catch so pretty easy for a QB you wouldn't have been the only allamerican in this boo game if I were allowed to have Push passes when I was playing quarterback I tell you that it is so hard to defend it's so hard to seal that edge especially when this guy's Full Speed Ahead they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one you know the runner just has to have a little bit more patience he bounced that thing outside a little too early and as a result lost yards let's see what call they have on Third and long from the 28th [Applause] [Music] from the gun wants to pass got his man quickly and they'll spot it at the 38 and that'll be plenty for the first down hard work pays off Guys these offenses work so hard week in week out working on those critical down and distances third downs and having that conversion this early in the game that's got to feel good for this offense and the agies have their offense in high gear [Applause] off the play fake on first down not much of a chance there he just had to get rid of it to avoid the [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] sack and the incompletion brings up a second down for this offense they'll run it from the gun nice solid for tackle from this softb all right well the offense here they're trying to get this run game established they obviously don't break off a long run there but they're just trying to find their footing [Music] this decb Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down [Applause] from the gun wants to pass it's complete on the right side he's got enough to move the chains and they'll spot it at the 47 man listen you get Zone coverage and you can hit that curl route and he comes open continually keep hitting it this might be a play to come back to Utah State comes to the line with a first and 10 [Applause] he'll do it himself nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the care well they were trying to set up the option but the quarterback had no chance did you see the defensive tackle penetrate what a great first step shot right through the offensive line and got the tfl couldn't get him blocked on that last one now it's second and 14 to the ground with the back and they'll bring him down after a short pick [Applause] up you to State Up Tempo on Third and long try to convert through the air it's complete they make the stop but not before they do their work up top and pick up a first down and that's really got to make this offensive coordinator feel good you get a completion on a big third down early in the game and that should give him a lot of confidence calling plays this game they'll snap it from the 30 on first [Applause] down quarterback on the keeper he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a well he couldn't find any Running Room at all and he'll end up taking the loss on the play yeah great discipline on defense too cuz if you're going to stop the option you have to play assignment football everybody doing their job there was just nowhere to go there for after that last loss it's second and 12 he's looking to throw and that pass will be Jarred loose on second down that brings up third down un forunate with that incompletion the quarterback and his intended target not on the same page 12th play of the drive coming up but they've got a long way to go here on third down from the gun wants to pass getting some heat the short hands it's Briggs and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop he just didn't have a chance to get Lo and make his way to that first down marker I think fans get upset sometimes like run your route past the sticks so we get the first down but nice job by the defense understanding where the sticks were and forcing the fourth down and they'll send out the field goal unit just drives it between the [Applause] uprights that makes the USA Utah State [Applause] after that last field goal Drive they're set to kick it away here he comes from inside his own five aerates him still on the move he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 looking for a gap it's marks and a pick up of eight opens a world of opportunities on second and two coaches always harp about staying ahead of the chains and when you can run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just that got eight on first down now looking at a second and [Applause] two looking downfield it's Moss got his man on the right and works it through the 40 yd line that'll be a first down and this junior quarterback shows you why the scouts love that big arm of his nice patience fight a quarterback here working against Zone coverage he was allowing his receiver an opportunity to find that open space in the defense before pulling the trick they'll run it out of the shotgun and they try the middle of this Stout defense and they rise to the challenge you're going to stop the run game you better be physical up front on the defensive line they've got some MERS they've got some dudes with bad intentions nice play there as they get set to snap it just about to reach the end of the [Applause] quarter now the play fake going to take a shot and the ball will be grabbed at the 30 yd line touchdown Tres and once he got loose it was all over one of the reasons this offense is so exciting to watch they've got guys that are dangerous after the catch if this quarterback gets through his progression David hits you in stri these guys will take it to the house man it's your job to do the rest right you hit me in stride where I don't have to stop running I don't have to break down it makes it so easy the connection between quarterback wide receiver you can tell this is a good one and that's why they got six on that [Music] [Applause] play he'll try to add another to their lead exra point the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and the score comes courtesy of an explosive play in the passing game from 60 yds out lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive he'll start the return inside his five there to make the tackle and that's how we'll wrap up this first period as we head to the quarter break it is USC holding the lead they came out and jumped on them early in the first let's take a break and look at the first quarter stats this could be a pivotal moment in this game as we open the second period and they try to find a way to answer the give to the tail back what a good run there he has enough for the first down and that is just an attitude run running it right up the middle right into the teeth of that [Applause] defense Utah State Up Tempo they'll ride the hot hand he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple they're trying to run the ball on first down guys with just nothing doing up front their offensive line got blown up on that play there was nowhere for that guy to [Music] go after losing a couple on that last play here's second and [Music] 12 from the gun running back on the Move several Defenders there to get him on the ground I love this because he got second really really long and what's the idea of the offensive get third and manage but nice job getting the Run not only a positive run shoot you almost got the first down now you're set up for B success on third down better find the a pluged here comes the noise backing this defense on third down now the pitch and that might have been a bad read as the defense just swarms all over the pitch man yeah I think the running back kind of went Rog on that last running play I'm not sure it was designed to go that direction he tried to make it happen on his own fortunately and up losing yards Utah state will be forced to send out the punt team this will be the second time they've had to kick it away he'll bring it back it's Branch coverage team was down there to Corral they made the Stop and they'll park it at the 39 and guys USC has the ball back and sending the offense onto the field from the gun the ground game and I think they'll give him two on that one second and eight coming out I like feeding my guy I like getting my running back touches feeding the ball so he can break some of those big runs but I'm also okay with these little ones set the tone stay balanced picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down and that defense is there to guide him out of bounds after a short gain list I know that's not a huge game those run plays add up they make you tackle the back every single play physically you have to get some guy on the ground that takes its toll throughout a fourth quarter game after the strong run on second down third down coming do they do it again looking to throw for it grabbed in the back field it's Mark and they wrap him up but not before he's got it up for the first down just beautiful that's a great feeling as a quarterback when you make that throw keeps your offense on the field keeps the offensive Rhythm obviously not as good as throwing the touchdown pass I'll tell you this way better than having to trot off over to the bench and wait for your turn to get another shot looking downfield it's moss and the ball is intercepted didn't have a lot of room to run after the pick but he's done his job they Haven at the 44 well the defense comes away with the pick there with their nickel Personnel I think moving forward if you're on offense when you see that Personnel on the field you want to run the ball against it because you got smaller guys out there or if you're going to throw think about quick screens outside when you have tight ends flexed on the perimeter bigger bodies blocking smaller guys guys the Utah State offense about to give it another go they've been pretty much stifled on offense so far David only able to muster three points in their previous three drives and you got to find a way to open this up and create some explosive plays the passing game is obviously the easiest way Jesse put more speed on the field find those guys down the field you know they're frustrated too because they felt like there was some matchups they could take advantage of to get some points on the board early in this one they just haven't been able to connect on those opportunities but I like David's idea maybe move some guys around and see if you can create some better one-on-one matchups unloads quickly they get him on the ground but it's a first down nice completion here to this wide receiver and you're going to see this receiver line up in different spots all over the field all game long defense has got to keep their eye on where this guy is because they know he's a big part of this offensive success the offense setting up shop at the 46 first and 10 got it behind the line it's white he's brought down solid up but a little bit short of the first down we see another catch by this guy this defense is going to need to do a better job of tackling the catch in coverage I know they want to slap the ball away but you can't do it to force the incompletion you've got to at least make sure you're able to drag him down to the ground as soon as he catches the ball here comes the option he'll pitch it perfectly timed on that pitch and they pick up the first down on the play you got to wonder if that's a moral victory for this offensive line cuz they have not been running the ball well at all all game long but on that short yardage situation they finally pick it up and maybe that's going to be the Catalyst for them to get this thing going and Spark the Run game this Utah State offense has it going wants to throw on first down makes the catch it's white I really like this slot receiver because of his shiftiness and you see that on his route run really really nice job creating separation for his [Music] te linebackers trying to create some confusion the aies racing to the line in the hurry [Music] [Applause] up wants to throw on second down quickly to the tight end there to make the tackle but the big throw is good enough give them a first down they pick up the first down on the drag route I know that seems like a simple route but it's actually a lot more complex than what it looks like because that route changes based on whether it's man or Zone if it's man coverage he's flying across the field if it's Zone he's got to sit down over the ball and a soft spot giving his quarterback a place to go with it nice job of those guys being on the same page there fires left touchdown youate and they made it to the house where they found that six point waiting on him number one with the catch and score [Applause] they'll try to attack one more on their score and with the extra point they cut the lead to 1410 they marched 56 yds to the end zone and they Clos the deal with a 16 yd throw for the touchdown the kickoff team out there and ready to go Advance on the and he takes this from inside the five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 this Trojan offense is ready to go back to work boy they hope this next Drive is more productive after throwing a pick last time Jesse Yeah and the coaches did a good job on the sideline there just talking to the Young quarterback and making sure he's able to turn the page calm him down to go out and refocus this drive yeah and some people do that better than others but you got to show some trust in him maybe get the ground game going help around him a little bit with this system after that last completion it's second [Applause] down to the air it's Moss fires to the tight end and they'll bring him down but not before he picks up the first down these routes have some reads and adaptability built in and the big fella found that cushion and made the play man it's so awesome how much offenses have evolved they know exactly what they're getting where to sit down quarterback tight end on the same page gets the first down the give out of the gun and they'll stop him just short of the first down just inches away from moving the sticks and that would be the definition of first down success putting yourself in a good position it's second and inches I can do whatever I want next I can take a shot down the field I can run the football and get a new set of downs like nice first down execution fight off the defender and he'll step across the sidelines after making a good gain on that one and the legendary John McCay would be proud of the execution of the running game picking up the first down the basic principles of the Run game right the easy stuff the boring stuff not fancy not uh not loved everybody likes points and all that other you know stuff that goes with it but you got to get the good running game USC doing a good job of it and he brought one tackle on the way to a solid pick up there yeah this coaching staff they're getting this offensive line lathered up and into a rhythm now they're letting them drive off the ball on first down on these running plays and they're getting chunks of yardage second down here and maybe they've got time to get one more snap off before the two-minute warning the give and he's looking for room behind the left tackle they finally make the stop at the big Bry there's plenty to move those sticks for the first down [Applause] [Music] the Trojans come to the line with a fresh set of [Applause] downs to throw it's Moss fires to the middle oh he drops the football he had him right down the gut of the field instead it'll be second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again looking to pass on second down he's got it down the middle he almost pick up the first down on that one but he'll be just a little bit short well you hear all the time that the tight ends the QB's best friend you saw a perfect example of it on that last play right second down you need to pick up some positive yards to keep this third down manageable really nice job of executing that here comes third and short from the 27 this defense trying to make them settle for a field goal he got it and he's into the end zone touchdown troen know quarterbacks and receivers they develop confidence and chemistry as the game goes on these two right now are definitely on the same page [Music] [Music] getting set for the point after for the extra [Applause] point and with the extra point it's a 2110 game they put together an 81 yd drive and they C things off with a scoring toss from 27 yd out about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown K on the move from inside is five and the returner will be brought down Utah State s against offense back onto the field running out of time here in the first half and they do have a chance to make this a one possession game and so you got to locate your best players and get them the football on this drive you're down in the game there's obviously a lot of football left David but on this drive in this two-minute situation best players got to touch the ball and this could get into pressing mode right like you go into the half down a couple of scores it starts to the pressure really really mounts good opportunity to take some of that pressure off get some momentum energize this squad going into half [Music] time on second and 10 A4 wide out set trips right after the incompletion they go back up top all kinds of room to throw that one in there what a play to get it inside the Red Zone and they are set up at the 17 love the individual effort by the wide receiver after the catch making people Miss showing you the speed now he set up his offense down in the red zone [Applause] the entire complexion of this possession changed on that one play now they've got it first and 10 inside the 20 from the Red Zone he's going to throw it and that incomplete pass caused by the big hit on first down second down coming second down this defense has a lot of speed especially in the secondary you saw that speed that Defender got to that receiver so quick because of the head incomplete passs they'll spread the defense out going five wide on second and [Applause] [Music] 10 after the incompletion back to the passing game that's caught it's flight they get it down to the seven on that pass play in Prime position for a score a timeout is called as this offense tries to find way to get more points on the board before the half the terrain gets rough this deep in the Red Zone third down they can pick up the first without scoring makes a catch they'll get him stopped just short of the end zone but they're in business here with a first down how nice is it in this offense to have a tight end like that guy that can come up with plays for you all over the field you just saw the big third down catch he set him up here in the Red Zone I like going back to him maybe lining him and flexing him outside getting a one-on-one opportunity for him to use his size Advantage he's looking to pass Let's It Go to The End Zone and he can't find his man as he was trying to pay off this Red Zone opportunity I love the coverage on defense in the Red Zone everyone's got their eyes on the quarterback and they're flying to the football you saw that there on the incompletion time dwindling away as they try to put points on the board right before the half [Applause] trying to punch it in he steps and powers and works his way they finally get him down at the two we've got a timeout in the waning seconds of the half maybe a chance to get off a couple more plays on Third and goal they'll throw it and it's caught touchdown Aggie and I tell you what that passing touchdown man that should spark this whole team like comeback is more than on now like they got the touchdown they cut into the lead you want to get a stop and go into the half get all the juices all the excitement and be like listen the passing game's rolling we got this The Comebacks in full [Applause] effect he'll try to tack on one more for the extra [Applause] point and with the extra point every little bit count they get closer that makes the score USC 21 17 so here comes the kickoff after the touchdown and the last thing you need right before the half is to give up a big return looking for an alley from inside his own 10 just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 and holding on to a first half lead this offense will play it safe take a knee and head to the locker room that's the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join Kevin in our halftime update man we've been looking forward to this one all week a fun start to things in LA and we have to start this halftime breakdown by addressing the play of this Elite wide receiver this is clearly a young man once he's finished playing on Saturdays he's going to be playing on Sundays the kid has different gears he has a knack for finding gaps in the defense and I can't remember a college player with that kind of catch radius with that said let's send it back to the guys at the LA Coliseum [Music] and the aies will line up to kick off and start the second [Applause] half he'll bring it back from inside to spot not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 guys USC has the ball back and sending the offense onto the field they opened this third quarter on top and they built the lead on the strength of that running game and they made a huge statement too just proving to the other team that they're more physical they're winning in the trenches so here in the second half David just keep demoralizing this defense by pounding the football yeah and and I'm not going to let that happen I riled up my guys at halftime we're going to put more people in the box and they we got to come out and meet the physical challenge of this offense little bit more to go after that last completion they'll try to pick it up on second down back to throw it's moss and the pressure gets to him down goes the quarterback I think going into halftime trailing this defense knew that they were going to have to start making plays here in the second half and early in the third quarter here on this drive they get a sack that is really good news for this defense third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off from the gun wants to pass right down the middle complete to the left building momentum picking up a chunk of yardage moving the chains out to the 34 defense is about feeling out the offense what they like to do what are they going to do in third short third medium third long so far the offense is winning defense going to need to make some adjustments and the Trojans getting set on First and 10 they're looking for an advantage to the right right smashes through and he use that big powerful stiff arm to extend the play and pick up a few extra yards second down man when I can run the football like that on first down and creates second and inches and and stay way ahead of the sticks and and be in a position now where I can throw the football or run I will have a lot of success on the offensive side of the football keep it on the ground the Trojans are stopped but not before getting the first down pound pounding pound I might not have that 30 run pass ratio of 50/50 but if I can run the football like this consistently if you're not going to do anything about it you want to be a great offensive coordinator keep calling the run and the Trojans are moving quickly down the field caught behind the line it's Robinson and the defense had that one well covered just a short game there great play by the cornerback he is way too physical at the point of attack he beat his man trying to block and he tackled that receiver on the screen and here comes play number six of the [Applause] drive dropping back it's Moss looking deep and that's going to be incomplete going for broke on second down but third Down's coming up DB does an outstanding job here on the Deep pass cting the football no Pi able to swat it away pass incomplete they couldn't connect on second down now staring at a third and [Applause] nine he's looking to throw not able to hook up here incomplete incomplete I know this offense came out here in the second half hoping to build on their one possession lead but after that incompletion I think the smart thing is to just kick it away here let your defense play and try to get it back to you without giving up any points the Trojans send out the punt unit he'll try to really get into this one a fairly short distance here toward the sidelines not his best work Utah state has it back ready to go to work on offense this is a game of swings and momentum and a great opportunity here after scoring on the last Drive getting a stop and now you have the football back they're playing well right now in all three phases and they're complimenting each other so now David it's up to the offense here it's up to this quarterback to lead this offense down the field to get a score yeah and just stay aggressive to to understand we've had success we got this going the right way now I don't need to change anything go back to your go-to plays that's now got you some momentum back in your F he wants to throw makes a catch and knock down my old coach said to never go broke taking a profit take what's there take the positive yards never [Music] can youah State Up [Music] Tempo they'll Run play action unloads it left he strike downfield tackle is made but not until he gets the first down when you run the football and then throwing in the play action it's such a tricky thing for the defense do I play run do I come up fast it opens those holes right behind the linebackers and between the safeties to make the passing game just a little bit easier from inside the 40 at the 37 it's first [Applause] down used the play fake now to throw oh he's going to try to get it all here he got it they get him stopped at the two but it'll be first and goal great throw great catch I I know you smelt the pylon and you wanted to get in the end zone but now you got first and goal set up in a great position to succeed fans are bringing the noise on first and [Applause] goal the snap sets up to throw touchdown Utah State and that one will give him the lead and what a nice play call and nice EX play action you're thinking run quarterback pulls it out throws the football right behind those guys and gets the touchdown yeah it was a nice job there by the quarterback too on the ball handling he just froze the defense just long enough to help those wide receivers and targets get some separation in the end zone and at that point it was just an easy pitching catch lining up to tack one more onto that lead [Applause] and the extra point puts him up by a field goal a very efficient five play scoring drive and it was finished off with a 2yd touchdown TFC 2 the kickoff team out there getting set on the run from inside his own five he was looking for more Running Room but to be found as he stopped at the 23 this Trojan offense is ready to go back to work David the putter got some work last time they'd like to keep him on the sidelines in this drive yeah it's not something you want to say very often you don't want the P out there this offense needs to get back lathered up and get a little bit more best way to do that identify where your best players are and just get them the football give these guys some touches to Kickstart this offense after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven [Applause] [Music] handoff from the gun he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple well they're trying to get that run play going to the outside but it's the defensive end who does a great job winning his one-on-one and forcing the negative play they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from [Applause] here on third down he'll try to pick it up through the air oh he gets the downfield from the mid capap that defense got gas but they finally get him to the turn at the 47 well how about the offense setting that play up we've seen earlier in the game a couple shorter throws just trying to suck those safeties closer to the line of scrimmage anticipating that they would get an opportunity to take a shot they called the perfect play at the perfect time right there movement here from the tight end back to throw it's Moss shoots it to the left it's caught and the defense couldn't Coral him and he took it all the way touchdown USC have a day young fell I foresee some social media posts in his future not one not two three receiving touchdowns on the day what a ball game [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] they'll try to add another to their lead point and the extra point is good and they have a 2824 lead quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and they finished it with an explosive play in the passing game scoring from 47 yds out lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown [Applause] drive here he comes from inside his own five and good work by the coverage team to knock down the Return Man guys you toate offense about to give it another go Jesse looking to take it down the field for backto back touchdown going to take a shot and it's incomplete they were looking for the huge gain on first down nice job in coverage there offense trying to take a shot downfield the defender able to tip that one up in the air and force it [Music] in now it's second and 10 from the [Music] 15 misfired on the last play they'll go back to the air he's right on target they've done a really good job creating the matchups they want out of the spot yeah dude get that guy matched up on a linebacker that guy matched up on a safety keep him away from the corners by putting him in the slot get him the football let line that has a ton of Pride and they want to come out each and every game and really impose their will on the D line they got just enough push there on that run play to pick up the first well look what's happening now old Uncle Mo has hit the transfer portal and is changing Sidelines might as well give it to him again a collision and he stopped at the 27 after picking up one and a lot of times you want those big plays you want those Splash plays but sometimes you're going to take some losses you're not going to run the football overly well but if you continue to run it you can at least create some balance you at least have the threat of it otherwise you're just going to abandon it and now it's just going to be a passing game from the gun they'll try to impose their will defense fills those gaps he's got one to the 28 third [Applause] [Music] [Applause] down they've made third down offenseive key it'll be tested on Third and long from the [Music] 28 run the gun wants to pass can't make the connection on third down thanks for that tough hard nose pass defense and now it's fourth down well in the first half this offense was up and down the field it seemed like everything they were dialing up was working and here we are in the third quarter and there's a very rare incompletion on their own end of the field maybe that's the play the defense needs now to spark some momentum fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way bringing it back it's Branch he gets a block working his way on the return up to the 40 ydd line before he stopped the guys USC has the ball back and sending the offense onto the field the give to the running back from the shotgun continuing to turn and move it forward and they're closing in on Midfield it's down at the 48 you want to talk about making it easy for an offensive coordinator you pick up a bunch of yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the offense they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three moving the running back forcing the defense to adjust can't get him to the ground and he is swarmed under a host of Defenders there to make the [Music] stop in the dead center of the field as they try to convert this third and short they'll try to pick it up on the ground he's got first down yardage as they move it to the 44 it's hard to stop break it really is that's why you run the football consistently you got a big offensive line a big physical unit you run the football like this man it will take a toll later but you got to tackle this guy over and over again who has this ability to make people miss and make big plays he's got it on the right they get him down and that'll be the final play of the third period and talk about spreading the ball around everyone getting a chance to show off the hands based on the number of targets we've [Music] seen not only is the scoreboard on their side but so too is time as we open the forth looking for a man it's Moss feeling some heat on the Run fires down field finds a man by himself and they finally get him stopped but it's a big throwing and catch and he's down to the five this offensive line does such a good job communicating the pass potential you can see guys passing Defenders off to one another and that's why the quarterback had so much time to complete that throw deep down field so this offense has the lead they have the ball they have the clock on their side and a chance perhaps to put it Out Of Reach turning to the running game on first and goal he's got it down to the one yd line right on the doorstep of per you got to give the coaching staff credit because they really do Focus all season long on situational football with the lead late in the game if we're on offense we're trying to stay in bounds we're trying to bleed the clock and after ripping off a really nice run that guy knew I've got to get down I cannot get pushed out of bounds cannot get tackled out of bounds really really nice job and maybe he'll get back to the line of scrimmage but no more than that well he gets tackled down at the one yd line so offensively do you feel confident enough on third here trying to hand it off again yeah and I'm taking both these downs and I'm coming downhill I'm running the football trying to get this in the end zone I only got a yard to go I got to be [Applause] physic trying to make their way to the promised land on Third and goal and he takes it in for the score touchdown Southern Cal wow this offense they have a lot of faith in this running back knowing if they get down in this area of the field he can get it done and he can answer the Bell two rushing touchdowns are ready for this [Music] [Music] offense now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic [Applause] and the extra point is up and good and they have an 11o fourth quarter lead that touchdown Drive covered 61 yds and they capped it off with a one yd pun almost ready to kick it away after scoring the [Applause] touchdown and he'll bring it back nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and will stop him at the 16 Utah State sing Against offense back onto the field that last Drive won't go on the Highlight Reel after ending in a punt they'd like to be more productive this time David and I think this offense has to be a little bit more balanced find a little balance between the Run Jesse and working in that pass I think too David it's just going to take a spark it just takes one play to get this thing picked up and going Utah State Up Tempo [Music] [Music] back to the ground with the running back not much there picks up a couple to the 22 Here Comes This Home crowd as a defense tries to get off the field on third down run the gun wants to pass unloads to the wide out it's caught downfield solid work and execution there they'll have a first down as they mark it at the 40 well trailing like they are right now in the fourth quarter their execution offensively is just going to have to be at a premium you can't afford a lot of incompletions at this point everybody is going to need to be on the same p m four Utah State comes to the line with a first and 10 wide receiver coming across in motion touch pass on the Run he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the sticks for a first down yeah and way to be creative way to get the ball in the perimeter really quickly get some speed outside all you got to do is secure that edge and you're just trying to get that first down nice job nice play call by the offense this Utah State offense has it [Applause] going from the gun the running back has it and a really nice run and pick up there before the defense avoided disaster and stopped the really big play every offense wants to be able to run the ball and be physical especially on first down and you want to create second and short third and short or just get first Downs like that run right there they're down to the 32 yd line on First and 10 used the play fake now to throw nowhere to go in the ball is lo defense coming up with a huge bubble recovery and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball back for its own there is little that warms the heart of a Defender like a stri sack even better if you get the ball and I like the awareness of this defender on the play because he knew he might not actually get to the quarterback and make the hit but he was able to still SWAT away use those longarm runs to cre matur this Trojan offense is ready to go back to work looking to move it through the air grabbed over the middle it's Branch stop is made at the 44 but it's a yd gain and a first down one word to describe this guy Unstoppable over50 yd receiving and he is putting the gold into that Cardinal and goal yeah and they do such a good job with this offense year after year if you're a USC OC you got stars on the outside you got speed you know how to highlight them you know how to find them and you know how to feed them for big days like this the defense didn't play they didn't have everybody in gaps and the offensive line took advantage at the point of attack getting some push opening up a hole and the offense dripping off a nice run there and the Trojans want to pick up the [Applause] tempo he'll PLL it on the read he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple and that is beautiful execution by the defense what do I do with that option string him along don't let him make a quick decision don't let it that be obvious did a good job slow playing it stretching it out everybody being able to run the football use the sideline as a Defender nice job by the defense wide receiver now comes in motion got some room headed to the goal line touchdown Trojan and they add six more to the more with that trip to the house and this offense continuing to put up points this game's Out Of Reach you know you're going to win but still throwing the football still finding that connection I imagine there'll be some salty handshakes at the end of this game [Music] [Music] lining up to tack one more onto that [Applause] lead and now with the extra point they're up by 18 here in the fourth quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and they finished the deal with a 26 yd touchdown pass the kickoff team out there set to boot it away kick he'll start the return inside his five and they'll get him on the ground as the offense comes out to start the next Drive Line gets set first down he's looking to throw it and down he goes back at the three right I like the aggressiveness I want to be aggressive as a play caller but I'm coming out of my own End Zone but I got a little bit of space to throw the football and you tell they wanted to be aggressive wanted to take a shot defense was ready locked him down but thank goodness still had a little space [Music] that is the last thing you want on first down it's an offensive sack now it's second down leaves it with the running back just a solid stop by this sophomore I never know if it's grammatically correct to say a team is out physic difficult hear it a lot in football though that's happening in this game they are just not getting the push they need all game long up front to have any success when they decide to run it not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long backed up inside their 20 takes a hit as he fires that pass is well off Target he got hit as he was trying to throw and they can't convert on third down it's a nice adjustment by the defense here with a big lead in the game you're putting extra DBS on the field knowing the offense has to throw to get back in this one in the fourth quarter so the best cover guys on the field and they force an incompletion on the last one he just wanted to get it out of there from his end zone excellent coverage that time didn't give him any room to set up a big return the guys USC has the ball back and sending the offense onto the field this has been exactly the way you draw things up David the offense has really been moving the football and it's been great execution they've done exactly what they've wanted to do build the lead now Palmer is a different animal now you got to protect it you can tell they were paying attention in practice this week in the film room because they have gone out everybody right now on the same page 6yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and [Applause] four he want that clock to run plows ahead for a pickup of one to the 32 at the 32 yd l coming third down after the run he'll try to pick it up on the ground at the 20 he's got space and there they go again with another huge gain on the ground he's finally run out of bounds [Music] the Trojans come to the line with a new set of [Music] downs to the ground he's got it again and they're able to shove him to the turf as they stop him for a short gain operating in the Red Zone here on second [Applause] Down On The Run it's marks and a decent game there before the defense makes the [Music] stop boy they' love to move move the sticks here and take a shot at it on first and [Applause] goal from the shotgun the inside K and they did not let him get to that first down line it'll bring up a call here yeah that's a really good job by the defense cuz when you get in that third and medium area listen you got to be worried about the run and the pass did a good job playing both got it stopped now forcing a fourth down [Applause] go that thing would have hit a string in the middle of the upright perfect and that weave grows even [Music] [Music] bigger that last field goal was a big one now it takes a touchdown to beat them you want to pin them back on the kickoff here from
