for Adelaide uh a bit and move it [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] ladies and gentlemen the winner of the 1980 McGary medal from Port Adelaide Russell Evan [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] and my great pleasure to ask the president of the South Australian National Football League Mr Max Bashir to make the official presentation of the 1980 McGary Mill to Russell for Adelaide the first man ever to win four McGary medals foreign ERS in South Australia and on my own behalf I congratulate you Russell on a wonderful achievement I'm sure that you have all of the attributes which the donor of this medal had in mind when he laid down the guidelines you've been a wonderful Ambassador for football in this state and it's a state and you've brought a lot of Glory on yourself your club and your state and we're all very proud of you [Applause] you have achieved something that's never been done before and I'd venture to say that it'll be a long long while before it's done again on behalf of everyone at my very great pleasure to present you with a 1980 McGary medal [Applause] thanks very much Max I haven't got any cue cards here after speeds like that there's not much left to say really uh it is a big night um the counter always is a big night and they set players up and I thought they were going to do it again for our King on there they took the bread of it this year which was a bit of relief for me but um thanks very much to everyone here for their Applause thanks to everyone who would probably be sitting down at home by now after uh a fair bit of excitement but uh thanks to Port Adelaide Big Bob finishes an incredible career down there pretty soon and I'm sure it'll still be around the club to Jack thanks for uh the way you've accepted me back and uh also to all the players throughout the year thanks to my wife and kids home uh to Mum and Dad they continue to support and all the family uh I believe you're getting this replay so uh that'll be good he'd be pretty excited um thank you to all the trainers and everyone involved at uh Port Adelaide like to thank also someone you you know but you probably wouldn't know about and that's Ricky Monty Artis who's done a a wonderful job to along with our trainers to keep me on the track in the last half of the year and just thanks to everyone and that's about it [Applause] before you go uh your fourth McGary Mill uh would this be the highlight of your career obviously would be uh yeah individually it had to be of course it'd be stupid to say anything else but I I believe uh that it's a team game and uh and results in finals are the thing that we aim for premierships uh the most pleasure I got out of football is a 1977 Premiership it's a team game everyone battles their stomach out all year and it's a Premiership that is the ultimate but individually I suppose the the middle of course is but uh it's a team game and memberships are the way you get the results Russell we're confident before the accounting on but you would win the fourth mini game medal and what was the feeling like all right time to explain I've been set up here for years and uh nice place to be set up yeah you come in and uh you've polled pretty well in media rewards and that and uh of course the the votings run along a similar line now and uh you sort of everyone says you can win it or this player or win it or that player and you're really a little bit confused and you try and work out the good games and bad games it's pretty hard to sit down and after a game and and just think how you've played so it's sort of a confusing week but it's turned out this way so Russ 49 they're very lucky now but a few hours in the game it'll count as concerned isn't it yeah advice Russell what about you stick with North Melbourne did you enjoy that very much so as I said earlier to Peter the the year over there uh should be experienced by everyone uh the tremendous pressure you're subjected to just the training sessions to make the side players here probably never ever experienced particularly the ones who don't play finals and uh to play as I said with the best and against the best and just find out just how much more you can do by being exposed to the players and the pressure uh people here don't realize Gary Harman would coming from over there and he just realizes the pressure that's involved to to make it in the in Victoria and that it just teaches you how much more you can do with your own sort of ability and and of course currency uh just the extra the grass put into his games is coming from over there just is is proof of uh of how much you learn now just in closing a Premiership report labor certainly have a wonderful year certainly would certainly gentlemen 99 in the game thank you believe it of Port Adelaide with 49 votes in second position who had a wonderful year Michael Tyler from North on 45 Kim Heisman 44 Peter Kerry 36 Bruce Lindsay 34 from West Torrens Neil Craig a great year with the double Blues on 33 Greg Phillips has sent a half back from the magpies 32 and Rick Dave is 29. but the outrider winner must a leader of Port Adelaide I'd like to call a pony general manager of the port L.A football club Mr Bob McLean to call him forward also with Russell leave it once again come forward please let's leave it and Mr Bob McLean all right Bob you've got a very unusual caricature there of Russell Eva well can we have a bit of an idea down to Port Adelaide that he just might click it again and we have a caricature here of Russell leave it that might help to pay uh uh the dividends for Adelaide this year this is one that's available from the club and it will supporters will rig into the club all right to the club for ten dollars this is yours or there's a poster for five dollars it's worth gaming the first player ever to win four in the Gary medals Russell you bloody Beauty thank you thanks very much Big
