BG football's quarterback competition just got a whole lot tougher former Indiana and Missouri quarterback Connor baslak was finally able to get some reps in front of the media on January 30th when the team held their first open practice of the season baselak a senior with two years left of college eligibility was a four-star recruit coming out of archbishop's altar High School in Dayton and was named SEC co-freshman of the year in the covet shortened 2020 season when he threw four 2 366 yards seven touchdowns and six interceptions he says that what brought him to BG was the coaching staff both notably his connection with head coach Scott Lefler Scott Lefler was bezelak's primary recruiter when he was coming out of high school back when he was still in the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Boston College I'm having that fast relationship was huge um you know him at Boston College I always my go-to is is when I because obviously I didn't commit to him but my go-to saying is I knew he was going to get a head coaching job so that's why I didn't go there um uh but yeah that past relationship was huge and um you know he was he was one of the first people to call me when I entered the portal and um he's been he's been great he traded reps with senior Camden orth sophomore Owen Bainbridge and incoming freshman Lucian Anderson III when asked bazelike had this to say about the quarterback room it's a great room and you know Cam and Owen they're a great kind of welcoming welcoming me dalen and Lucian in and um right now I think we're all just kind of trying to get the Playbook down um learning where the hell things are in the city so absolutely um I think we're all kind of swimming right now and eventually you know a couple weeks we'll we'll be uh off for a home so baselac says his experience playing in both SEC and Big Ten has helped him and it can help his new teammates you know just like you said I've seen pretty much every coverage every defense um you know I've played in most hostile environments so um there's nothing that'll phase me and I feel like I can kind of share that experience with some of the uh some of the teammates across his three seasons as a starter he has completed 714 of his 1148 pass attempts for 7 370 yards 36 touchdowns and 27 interceptions his best season came as Missouri started in 2021 where he threw for 2 548 yards 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions leading his team to a 6-6 record and an armed forces bold birth however he did not play the bowl game Ben Shannon Reese patricus bg24
