Week 1: North Texas @ South Alabama #eaprediction

[Applause] welcome to the Port City Mobile Alabama home to the South Alabama Jaguars Hancock Whitney stadium and we have been fired up about this match all week there's just something about the night cap after a day of wall toall football it just seems this is when chaos ensues as we'll see a squad from the AAC the north Texas mean green taking on a team from the Sun Belt the South Alabama Jaguars for sports college football I'm Reeses Davis joined here in the booth by David poock and Jesse Palmer and guys let's get this thing started North Texas will kick it off to get this game underway here he comes from inside his own five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 so the South Alabama Jaguars offense takes the field to start this game off when this guy comes onto the field David he seems to bring the it factor with him so much fun as a play caller to have a guy you depend on you trust you know Palmer you're going to get the best out of this young man he's also one of those guys David who just elevates everybody else around him right all 10 guys in that huddle offensively just seem to play better knowing they've got confidence in this game well and on these little push passes timing is so important you're trying to snap it right as he's getting a full head of steam when he gets gets the ball he's hitting the outside and David it puts the defense in such a difficult spot you immediately have to be rotating when you see that motion so everybody's got to communicate and kind of bump over that's why offenses love to run it just it makes the defense communicate and see if you can just get him out of a spot it's early in the game and as offenses try to get their Rhythm these easy completions are very important because that's what helps you get your feet underneath you as an offense and as a unit and hopefully as this game goes on they'll be able to rest up and get more aggressive taking shots wide out in motion quick touch pass to the receiver nice move to keep running tackled after picking up the first down and I love right out of the gate this offense is going to be creative they're going to try to get their best players the football out in the open field you saw it right there and the Jaguars getting set on First and 10 quick pass on the jet motion he brought down but he went backwards after that completion not the way they had it drawn up really good job by the defense seeing it and going and getting it nice job understanding the touch pass it could happen those guys go in motion man I got to understand safety's got to see that start flying down getting ready to play that nice job by the defense being ready for that play second down coming up the aerial assault continues and that pass will be Jarred loose on second down that brings up third down well that's just a great play by the defender and great timing it was the hit that forced that incompletion let's see what call they have on Third and long from the 28 Lopez wants to fire fires one high and deep and he makes the grab at the 20 seizing that open space and opportunity all the way inside the Red Zone they'll mark it at the [Applause] 19 the Jaguars will hustle to the line from the Red Zone looking for a receiver and it's caught touchdown jaguar and a really nice job understanding I got to get to that Gap with there's a little bit of open space in the middle of the field when I run that post route QB lays it out for him and he catches it gets two feet in bounds in the end zone touchdown [Music] lining up to tack one more onto that [Applause] lead and the extra point is good and it's seven nothing so a scoring drive there of 83 yds and the Capper a 19 yd toss for the touchdown kickoff team is on the field they'll try to drive this one deep set to kick this one away just into the end zone and he'll bring it out stopped at the 177 and he's probably second guessing that return the mean green offense takes over and they'll go to work for the first time here are our impact players for this game and it goes beyond executing an assignment to make an impact in the game yeah obviously we were talking to both coaching staffs this week and we asked them who needs to step up and play while they immediately pointed to these guys right here they are the key for their respective teams yeah and they don't always show up in the Box Score but these are the guys are the leaders these are the guys getting everybody organized and have to play well for their team to succeed they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 back to the ground with the running back fighting off the defender that may not look like a huge run but they'll take it as it gets him up to the 24 just a simple power play power football be strong be big be physical make it a fourth quarter game make him feel you keep them off balance line is set on third down they'll try to run for it that just never had a chance as they controled the middle of the field and stopped him in the back field on third down this is an interesting decision now for the head coach you're trailing very early in the game there's a lot of football left but you're in a situation where you could go for it here and try and answer after your defense gave up that touchdown in the opening drive fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way he'll settle for some pretty good field position and make the fair catch at around the 35 the Jaguars offense ready to go back to work that last touchdown Drive was surgical through the air Jesse it sure was and that's why this offense is so dangerous David because they can score in a hurry because of how efficient they are throwing the football and welcome to Modern college football that's what it is spread you out find my Playmakers make quick decisions and really put defenses in a difficult situation the Jaguars in the hurry up quick strike complete they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker nice completion here to this wide receiver and you're going to see this receiver line up in different spots all over the field all game long the defense has got to keep their eye on where this guy is because they know he's a big part of this offensive success they'll go to work on second down after doing damage on the ground the give to the tail back can't get him to the ground and he's tripped up but not before picking up the first down all right well look I know the defense was feeling real good about their Runde coming into this one and how they've been playing up to this point but finally David the offense breaks through and they finally generate something positive on the ground and I can't tell you how easy it is when you're going to throw the ball consistently and I know it I'm going to pin my ears back and I'm going to get to the quarterback it makes life really easy on the defensive line but when you can have balance now the defense doesn't know what's coming they need more of this if they're going to be successful on offense and the incompletion brings up a second down wide receiver now comes in motion Lopez to pass keeps the play going and the defense is there he got away for a second but not for long as they knock him down for a loss man it didn't take long for the defense to get home on that that play you see them playing man coverage in the back end slowing down the routes from the receivers and the rest of the offense that forc the quarterback to have to hold on to it for just a split second longer than they were able to get the sack this is a third and long he's looking downfield to throw buys a little extra time he'll pull it down and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop well just a really nice job there on that third down trying to get after this quarterback and obviously they're not able to make the play in the back field but really nice job pursuing you see the athleticism and the speed they have how they play as a unit together only giving up a little bit of a gain and Now setting up fourth [Applause] down didn't make him sweat at all it's good and that lead grow even [Music] bigger they'll kick it away after putting up a field goal on that last drive on the move from inside is five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 North Texas sends the offense back onto the field going up top on first down quickly to the tight end He Stopped just a chain link or two away from the first down and sets them up beautifully here well this tight end he's got size and he's got some athleticism he's very difficult to cover oneon-one defense is going to have their hands full with him today second and very short here for the [Applause] offense they'll run it from the gun at the 45 on it way and they finally get him down but not before he's got him set up for business at the 4 Y Line North Texas in the hurry up quarterback on the keeper a solid pick up there before the defense is able to make the stop this Zone replay is something they rep over and over and over in practice this guy can run it and execute it in his sleeve good decision there keeping the football and here comes the offense on second [Applause] down really nice stop there from this senior leader [Music] [Applause] coming after the strong run on second down third down coming do they do it again from the gun leaves it on the inside with the back and boy is he close to that first down maybe just a couple of inches short and it comes as absolutely no surprise the offense will stay on the field and go for it on Fourth and inches he'll try to throw and pick up the first down he's got it and they convert he steps out of bounds but it will be enough for a first down I love the aggressive nature offensively there it's fourth down and you're going to try and go for it and you have so much confidence in your quarterback to be able to make that play come up with a good throw keep the drive alive North Texas really has it going on offense on the move it's Evans not a whole lot of room there three yards maybe second and seven and those physical runs take a toll it might not be a big game now but down the road third fourth quarter late in the ball games they tend to turn into bigger runs got three on first down it's second and [Applause] seven off play action fires to the tight end didn't pick up a rot there moved it Forward just a few a nice job by the defense there tackling the catch and smothering the tight end they know this offense is going to try to find him in the passing game in a lot of different situations that time perfect coverage and nice job bringing the big guy down not easy to do here comes third and short from the 27 this defense trying to make them settle for a field goal trying to get to him using his feet to buy time got some room headed to the goal line and he scoots his way to the first down and then slides to avoid the hit well the defense just spent a whole lot of energy too that was a long play that developed and took time and they were pursuing and they weren't able to get him initially so you got dudes huffing and puffing and sucking win and this offense all of a sudden down close to your goal line you might want to consider subing some fresh bodies out on the field fast motion from the offense try to get the edge with a quick touch pass and the Hallelujah land touchdown mean green timely decisions effective play management helps him get in the end zone after that marathon drive and every time the offense needed a play Boom they got it I mean you think about it whether it was a small run small pass whatever they needed they got it done and they popped it in for the [Applause] score ling up to add another and with the extra point the lead is cut to three it's 10 to7 they March 78 yds down the field and they finish it up with a three yd scoring toss about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown he'll bring it out it's bullet pulled down at the 18 and the decision to bring it out of the end zone was not a good one South Alabama has it back the Jaguar offense going to work man how comforting is it to know that even if your offense stalls out a little Jesse that field goal kicker can knock it in from a long way out well he's one of the best in the country ree no doubt but this offense would like him and prefer for him to kick an extra point on this drive and to do that David they've got to have more Rhythm on offense yeah create some more Rhythm create some more explosive plays and maybe some more balance and listen it's nice to have that weapon and kick long field goals if you kick too many field goals you don't get very many W's Lopez wants to fire just a short pass to the tight end and they'll bring him down but not before he picks up the first down I don't know who on defense is going to cover this guy honestly he could be a problem for this defense over the middle of the field in the passing [Applause] game lining up from the 34 on first down wide receiver shows motion off play action on first down had to throw it before he wanted can't find his man as he took a shot trying to deliver that football and it'll be second down we're already in the first quarter but already you get the feeling this could be a long day for this QB he's already been sacked he gets hit right there on the incomplete throw they've got to find a way to do a better job up front of protecting this guy or it's going to be difficult to put up points and the pass is incomplete Jarred Loose by the hit well the quarterback knew wanted to go to his tight end on that play he's a big physical Target but it was the hit on the play that forced the incompletion they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here on Third and long he has to throw for it wre doing what he does best he can move he is brought down but man what a job to find some Running Room and move the chains [Music] that's the end of the quarter South Alabama has the lead we putot one in the books Let's have a look at our game summary they've switched into the field and we're ready to get things started here in the second and the Jaguars are moving quickly down the field the give to the running back from the shotgun makes his man miss got room at the 35 defense needs to regroup as he gets it down to the 26 man I want to be a running back in this offense you take that hand off to the right you see that blocking and all the holes open up that's a good sight for a running back you've heard of Reed and react I think the defense read it they just didn't react very well well when you got that kind of a line just all that push they're getting on that right side they just pushed the defensive lineman back got in the linebackers laps and man oh man it was it was brutal up front short throw to the sideline is complete and he's out of bounds after picking up a couple and a really nice job by the wide receiver you run a drag route find Space they're in zone coverage they're not covering manto man find a little hole look at that QB y'all get on the same page you could tell they were and that's why they got the first down short completion last play Let's see if they throw it again they'll go to the ground hey get him down Tough Run picks up four they'll mark it at the 19 the Jaguars have taken it inside the 20 on Third and short they'll try to throw for it deep shot for the end zone and he's got it touchdown South Alabama man he didn't just put it on his numbers if he were throwing it at a FL por he would have put that right in the keyhole what a precise P right in the keyhole right on the button right on the face mask whatever it was great throw great timing nice job by the quarterback [Applause] on to attempt the try exra and with the extra point they're now up by a touchdown and a field goal at 10 so an 82 yd drive there and the Capper a 19 yd toss with a touchdown the kickoff unit about to go to work number 9 set to kick it away from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 they'll ride the running back and leave it with him makes his way ahead pick up of three and gets it to the 20 yd line oh man there's some big hitting going on in the trenches right now this defense they take a lot of pride in stopping the Run let's keep our eye on them throughout the course of the game and see if they can contain this running attack after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and [Applause] seven caught in the back field it's Ward they're able to get him stopped just shy of the first down Mar I like the decision by the quarterback here just get the ball out of your hands get it to your playmaker a lot of times they'll dance and make even bigger plays than he did here but it was still a positive game now looking for that first down on third third and short from the 26 and the incomplete pass will bring up fourth down defense did a great job third and short on the opponent side of the field they're expecting quick throw everybody they dug their heel on the ground they're able to break on the ball Force the incompletion north Texas will have to pun it away they'll work to pen him deep [Applause] he'll call for the fair catch here guys we'll have another look at this South Alabama offense there wasn't much need to throw it around on that last drive for the touchdown Jesse they got it done running the ball and David I don't think you have to overthink this thing if they can't stop you running it why would you stop handing it off just keep at it here on this drive well and if I'm the defense I'm making some changes I'm bringing in more Big B I I'm playing more aggressive towards the line of scrimmage I am not going to let them have that kind of drive again went to the running game on first down now second [Applause] down gets it out fast makes the grab and he's drag down so an example of a tight end doing a little unheralded work to set up a much better third down situation and I like the QB here Reese I like the decision where I understand let's get this football out let's get some positive yard yards and then get to third down and we can still have a better situation now because we got rid of the football and took the yards that were there trying play action they're working that left side and maybe he'll get back to the line of scrimmage but no more than that well they were counting on winning the one-on-one battle they got the completion but the yardish didn't work out yeah and a lot of times man that's what I do on short yard situation third and short make my guy fall forward for a couple yards try to get the first down but it was a good tackle and the receiver got absolutely nowhere after the catch fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way and the returner runs out of real estate as he goes down North Texas takes possession the mean green offense will return to the field last time David it was one two three kick the last drive that three and out sometimes that put your defense in a bad spot you got to get a drive together here so you don't wear the defense out I just think David predictable for that last Drive they got to do something here to get this defense on their heels North Texas in the hurry [Applause] up out of the gun the inside G they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one I love this linebacker because is able to dissect what's happening in front of him and he reacts downhill uses his speed to get to the line of scrimmage and create the negative play looking to push the pace with the no huddle back to throw it's Morris they're trying to get to it and that pressure just engulfed him a sack from this defense when it's a playaction pass that quart he really has to sell the fake he can't tell his offensive line is getting beat right away while he's selling the fake he had no [Applause] shot North Texas will have to punt it awayi [Applause] he's got it coverage team gets the job done and they'll Mark him down at the 38 yd line the Jaguars offense ready to go back to work Ed the play fake now to throw he tosses one high and deep down the left side and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge gain if he could have held on now second and 10 he's looking to throw good timing on the quick out they'll get him down but not before he crosses the 50 he's down to the 49 man how about the first half this guy's having he already has two touchdowns picks up a huge first down right here on defense you're going to have to find a way to control this guy you're going to have to make some big time adjustments at Happ time they'll have it at the 49 just across Midfield first and 10 he got a hand in there knocked it away incomplete ine and there's so much for a quarterback to think about stick it out in the belly do I pull it now when I pull it oh I got to get my feet set make an accurate throw to the right guy so a lot of things going on and I think that you saw that led to a little bit of inaccuracy wonder if they'll throw it again after the incompletion second and 10 from the 49 Lopez to pass safe completion on the screen and he'll step across the sidelines after making a good gain on that one plays like that put just a second of hesitation in the defense to make sure and they're able to take advantage here and they use the great timing with this call right like you can't call this play all the time but you want to catch them when they're a little bit aggressive not thinking about it nice job slipping the screen behind them making the easy catch and then getting downfield picking up some extra yards and he does a really nice job finding open space and making a good gain before the stop is made yeah this coaching staff they're getting this offensive line lathered up and into a rhythm now they're letting them drive off the ball on first down on these running plays and they're getting chunks of yardage eight- yd pickup on first down leaves them with second and short he's looking to throw fires deep toward the end zone touchdown Jaguar and they made it to the house where they found that six points waiting on him was a defense you know you're going to see the go R especially against this guy he does it to defenses so it seems every single week and so they're not able to get back deep and not to get run by he makes the catch and then runs it into the end zone they're going to have to change up their coverage and get some safety help up over the top because this guy's speed is a problem p unit on the field on for the extra point the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they top it off with a 41y toss for six about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown he'll start the return inside his five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 North Texas sends the offense back onto the field after giving up that score now it's incumbent on this offense to kind of get a back and forth going Jesse in this game they got to put some points on the board here there's obviously a lot of football to go so it's not necessarily Panic time just yet but I'm getting the ball into the hands of my best Playmakers on this drive I hear you Jesse but not panic time have you seen my defense I I mean I'm not trusting them to get a lot of STS so it puts a lot of pressure on this offense looking to throw it's Morris throws to the wide out and he drops it just a little too slippery in the hand just got to finish the play for the wide receiver you got to look that one in and complete it that's a bad drop not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long backed up inside their 20 from the gun wants to pass unloads to the wide out a beautifully placed ball to the outside and the tow drag for the big pickup I'll tell you if you're going to throw it to the perimeter of the field against Zone coverage you got to have really good anticipation that quarterback and you saw it there he threw that before his guy had even turned around accurate throw they're able to make the play and get the first down North Texas in the hurry up they'll leave it with him he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple they're trying to run the ball on first down guys but just nothing doing up front their offensive line got blown up on that play there was nowhere for that guy to go linebackers trying to create some confusion after losing a couple on that last play here second and 12 trying to make that Rush think on the draw play here and they'll stop him after a minimal pickup you know runs like this often times are like a boxer in a boxing match obviously it's not a knockout punch but these are body blows and as the game goes on these small gains are going to turn into longer runs a third and long coming up here from the gun wants to pass looking deep down the right side and that one's incomplete they weren't just trying to move the chain they were trying to move the scoreboard instead it's fourth down well at this juncture in the game with how the scoreboard looks no question this offense is going to have to throw to get back in the game and it's going to be tricky now because the defense is expecting it you're going to throw into a lot of big Zone coverages with everybody's eyes on the quarterback not going to be easy and the return man has no place to run no place to hide and a place to be tackled South Alabama has it back the Jaguar offense going to work that last drive an absolute aerial assault for the touchdown Jesse it was a nice job in play calling too David just giving the quarterback some easy looks and reads so he could go out and execute and he knew exactly where to go with the football everything looked really really easy he was hot the ball was coming out of his hands the defense better do something different this offense has a second down play out of the gun they give to the back gets it across the 30 to the 31 they pick up of five I know the passing game sells and the passing game is exciting but it's not exciting to get five or six yards a pop on the ground but it will be very successful they plow ahead with the run but still more ground needed to pick up the first down third down coming moving the running back trying to get the D to tip its hand he's got the tight end and he's brought down after a nice game man this quarterback is having a first half he's over 200 yards already heating up setting up D this dude might break his career high in passing I don't know what it is somebody get stats for me the Jaguars have it with a first and 10 running back goes in motion Lopez wants to fire quickly complete make the stop at the 40 but it's a 10yd gain and a fresh set of downs you know who's got to love this offense picking up so many first downs it's their own defense David I know you love playing on teams great offenses we've reached the two-minute warning and they will try to build on what is already been a dominant first half performance and the Jaguars have this offense rolling he'll come out throwing on first down got his man on the right they stop him almost immediately short gain there and still a little ground cover pick up the first and that's kind of a lot of today's running game right spit the ball out quick get it to your Playmakers in space get positive yards it's instead of running the ball a couple yards up the middle now you just spit it out wide and a lot of times if you break a few tackles it could be even bigger fires to the wide out he's got it touchdown South Alabama that is the ultimate grab and goal for the score this offense needed a big play and that is the guy that they need to go to to help create a spark on offense awesome job [Music] [Applause] he'll try to add another to their lead extra point and the extra point will tack another one onto this lead so that was a six play 75 yd drive and the final 34 yds covered by that touchdown pass the kickoff team out there and ready to go k he'll bring it back from inside to five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 North Texas takes possession the mean green offense will return to the field boy they've been caught in a buz saw here in the first half but maybe a chance to carry some momentum into the break here it all comes down to this drive right here ree obviously this offense hasn't had everything go right for them in the first half but here's an opportunity David to ex some plays put some throws together and generate some points and you're right Jesse and this offense needs to start now like we got to get some points on the board create some momentum and continue it because you've dug yourself a significant hope and there's finally a bright spot for this offense in the passing game completing that on third down I know we're in the second quarter they're trailing by a lot but you need something positive to happen here to build some momenta maybe they can build on that drive the field score some points before going here at halftime and get a little you going to the air it's Morris Lofts one high and deep and he's got it inside the 25 and the tackle was made but not before that completion gets him 30 plus really nice timing on that throw quarterback had to hold it allow his receiver to work his route but he threw it at the perfect moment so that he was able to make the catch inbounds right on the sideline using his legs to buy some time he turns this into a nice gain and gets down to avoid the hit all right defensive ends you've got to do a better job not getting too far up the field on these pass rush situations you got to be able to retrace you can get to the level of the quarterback but then you got to slow yourself down under control it's making it way too easy on this QB to know hey when these guys get up field too much and there's a lane I'm taking off it's just too easy for me with my speed he makes a catch in the end zone touchdown North Tex man nice job getting the passing game going this is big man going into the half and listen I know you're trailing but building some momentum maybe this second half we can keep airing the football out cutting into this deficit and who knows what the heck will happen ready to try the point after and with the extra point they're down 3114 a very efficient five play scoring drive and the score comes on a 5yd touchdown pass the lead is 17 as they try to fight their way back in they'll need a stop on this possession about to kick it off here and he takes is from inside the five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 guys we'll have another look at this South Alabama offense he's going to pass it's complete and he's knocked down immediately but not before he moves the chain at the pace this guy's going at right now this could be a record setting type day this could be a game for the ages for this dude he already has two touchdowns picks up that first down this is still the first half guys what is this guy capable of doing the rest of the game we're going to find out Lopez to pass got his man in the middle he'll be brought down and that's the final play of the half we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connor in our halftime update guys it is tough to beat the pageant tree and quality of play so far today in Mobile and there is no place to start this halftime than by reviewing how this wide out has been a Onan Wrecking Crew the kid's been everyway and I love how he's willing to go across the middle but that he also has the Jets to burn these DBS on the Deep ball if this defense wants to actually come back in this one they better hide his cleats and with that let's head back inside Hancock Whitney Stadium on a run from inside his zone five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 North Texas sends the offense back onto the [Applause] field off the RPO complete and the defense had that one well covered just a short game there ni catch by the big Target those big tight end you can tell in football just becoming more and more of a weapon on every single team North Texas in the hurry up on second down he'll fire unleashes one he's got it and he'll have enough for the first down at the 42 you know sometimes when you're throwing against Zone coverage you need time for the routes to develop so nice job by the quarterback there being patient allowing his receivers to work themselves open they'll snap this one from the 42 it's first and 10 from the gun the running back has it still on his feet at the 45 ripped off a huge chunk play on that as he gets the first down before he steps out of bounds I love that play call this offense is going to run the football they're not just going to do it between the tackles but they're going to attack you outside you saw that with that handoff they get to the right they get him in space using his speed good play call looking for a man it's Morris he makes connection this quarterback right now is in a Groove and he's doing a nice job in prap he's reading the coverage and he's getting an idea of where he wants to go with the football that's why the ball's coming out of his hands so quickly that's why he seems like he's in a great brother right North Tex is doing business from the Red Zone from the gun the ground game they pull him down at the 17 after a pick up of three third offense breaks the Huddle on third [Applause] [Music] down they'll try to move the chains on the ground that'll move the chains it'll be a first down for North Texas and I just love when guys know exactly where the sticks are you could tell ran with purpose finished through the sticks and got just enough for the first down and a nice job up front too right good communication everybody knew where they had to go hat on a hat work the double teams and get some push comes out throwing on first down he's got it still on his feet and he goes out of bounds after coming up with positive yardage there you know it's hard enough just to catch passes in college football but to do it while also being cognizant of where you are in the field and making sure you get a foot down inbounds that's really impressive operating in the Red Zone here on second down got it behind the line it's Ward that completion will take it inside the four and the offense is threatening it's hard to have success on wide receiver screens when you're facing press man coverage because your blockers out front often times can't pick them up and that receiver gets gobbled up as soon as he catches the pass we saw it on that last play Bo they' love to move the sticks here and take a shot at it on first and goal fires into the end zone and that ball was In Harm's Way and he is lucky to get that one back oh those are those opportunities in the game you got a chance to take points off the board make a big play and you just couldn't squeeze the interception that's one of those plays coaches come back to talk about say think if we get this pick and we start taking this the other direction and we take points off of the scoreboard he'll keep it himself he stopped just short of the goal line but they'll have it first and goal from the one and I tell you what to call that on fourth down you got a lot of faith in your quarterback that he's going to make the right read the read option there's a read option element does a good job seeing it he knows he can take it pulls it goes and gets the first down first and goal and this feels like their chance to make a game of it that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there now it's second and goal running play to the left looking for the End Zone here they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and with the stuff there Jesse on second down this little third to midrange you got two downs what are you thinking here maybe getting your quarterback out on the perimeter and giving him a run pass option see if you can get the defense in a b if this offense wants to stay in this game they have to punch it in on this drive it's third and goal and you race it to the house touchdown mean green touchdown you know what methusa lived 969 years he was born and died in the amount of time it took them to walk it down the field and score that touchdown and that's just so frustrating play after play after play you line up you try to do your assignment and you fail and they cap it off with a touchdown oh methusa now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and the Pat will draw them one point closer precise Relentless execution on that 13pl scoring drive and finish to deal with the short touchdown run from the two so they've got the lead down to 10 here a little more interesting as they're set to kick it away here he comes from inside his own five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 the Jaguars offense ready to go back to work he'll pull it on the read pass the first down marker and still running really needed a play like that to get out of their own end they moved the chains they marked it at the 29 well this is one of the fastest quarterbacks in college football and that's why the option's a good idea because if he can get out in space and he has a chance to get downfield he is really difficult to tackle and he's very difficult to catch as you saw in that last play getting a first down he's got his man and a nice job finding my wide receiver and then how about the wide receiver turning into a running back getting up field getting some positive yards and getting the first down and with that when he's now over three bills for the game and there's two reasons why Rees he's made good decisions and he's been accurate throwing the football all game long motion trying to get the defense to show it hand floats it out in space there to make the stop but they use the back in the passing game and pick up the first down I like the running back there on the route that patience he showed really setting it up he got to the defender was able to put his foot in the ground get some separation catch it and turn up field for the first the Jaguars with the first and 10 looking to move it through the air on the Run fires downfield all kinds of room to throw that one in there he got loose almost housed it finally dragged down at the 32 nice play design on that one you make it easy for your quarterback too because it's easy to see what's happening right in front of you over the middle middle of the field you can see where Defenders are dropping you can see where the soft spots are in zone coverage and just a really nice job by the QB locating his guide making an accurate throw he wants to throw it again trying to get rid of it hit hard as he released the ball on that first down pass and it never had a chance this QB has been so comfortable all day long obviously having a ton of success you've got to affect him you got to put some hits on him those body blows so you can make him wear out and physically feel you this is the first time really getting to him this defense needed this bad Lopez wants to fire he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down they've done a really good job creating the matchups they want out of the spot yeah dude get that guy matched up on a linebacker that guy matched up up on a safety keep him away from the corners by putting him in the slot get him the football let him make plays from the gun he'll try to throw for it on third down fires to the big fella and he's knocked down but not before moving the chain no reason to panic when you see those extra bodies coming just find the big tight head well and the great ones do that the great ones are okay you want to Blitz I know my answers I'm all right I'll stay patient find the match up this time it was the tight end finds the tight end throws a strike gets the first down they go to the ground defense there to stop him after a pick up of two down to the 15 after picking up a couple it's second and eight from the gun they'll try to impose their will relying on the Run he gets a couple before he's knocked down balls at the 13 man that D tackle is a freak athlete did you see him come out of his stance and beat the offensive lineman getting to the running back catlike quickness they'd love to pick up this third down and get a fresh set with first and goal third and long and he'll try to throw for it and he can't quite make the connection as he was trying to pay off this Red Zone opportunity this quarterback is having a day man and right there he was looking for touchdown pass number five he has been dialing it up he's been throwing strikes we haven't seen him Miss very much like he did just there but what a game this dude is having and they'll send the field goal team back out for the second time tonight smashes it between the uprights and now the is even [Music] bigger so after putting three on the board the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away on the move from inside is five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 North Texas takes possession the mean green offense will return to the field they'll give it to the back and a really nice run and pick up there before the defense avoided disaster and stopped the really big play and listen if it ain't broke don't fix it I I mean I love teams that commit to the run and when it's successful keep running the rock yeah David I I think this offensive line right now they've got a lather going they're really sort of getting in the groove and flow of this game they're just getting tremendous push at the point of attack it seems like every single time they decide to run the ball and they try the middle of this Stout defense and they rise to the challenge if you're going to stop the run game you better be physical up front on the defensive line they've got some M they've got some dudes with bad intentions nice play there North Texas in the hurry [Applause] up it's a draw he is going nowhere stopped at the line of scrimmage defense is about firing off hitting the offensive guys and staying in your gaps everybody knowing where they're supposed to be you can tell the defense everyone was right where they're supposed to be nowhere to run and this offense can ill afford to come up empty on this drive already trailing by multiple possessions feeling some heat and he just throws it away that is not what you're looking for on third down fourth down coming up every defense in the country talks about getting offenses in predictable third and long situations where I can bring on more speedsters and I know the pass is coming so I can have more success North Texas will have to pun it away and may have to pay him overtime he's punting for the fifth time today he'll put that return to a stop at the 33 but the offense set up in pretty good field position okay so here comes the offense returning to the field he Wast no time and comes out throwing got the Quick Pass they make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down nice job there good timing between the QB and the wide receiver executing that out route the completion short of the sticks it's second down a little pre- snap eye candy for the defense caught close to the marker it's Ivory they make the stop but this passing game does some damage and they move the sticks with the first down I tell you what that's great execution between the QB and receiver they look like they could exec that throw in their sleep quarterback took his steps threw it on time great route by the receiver nice job securing the catch time winding down in the quarter as they come to the line Lopez to pass fires to the big fella finally run out of bounds but he has his offense rolling with a first down [Applause] and you want to talk about his favorite receiver it might be everybody based on the number of guys getting touches and a chance to show off their hands in the passing game when you're dealing with a deficit like this it's all about somebody stepping up to make a play and you might as well start here in the fourth quarter wants to throw on first down getting some heat and he can't find a receiver and down he goes well the offense trying to stay aggressive right you just came up with a huge play and right away you go back to another pass but you got to do a better job protecting your quarterback can't give up a sack there [Applause] [Applause] big first down sack for the defense brings up second [Applause] down gets it out quickly the defense wouldn't let him loose there and it was a completion but they lost yardage well give the defense credit on that one because they knew coming into this one that they were going to try to get this receiver the ball in a variety of ways they were ready for the screen there and they create a negative play and whatever they did on first and second down don't do that anymore third and very long coming up looking downfield and he needs a [Applause] bunch and the pressure gets to him down goes the quarterback when you got third in this long everybody knows what's coming it's going to be a pass defensive lineman get to tee off they know exactly what's coming go get the quarterback it is your dream that is what you live for it's what you practice in the offseason for I want sacks just like that the Jaguars will punt it away on fourth down this will be the second time they've had to kick it away they make the stop but there is a penalty marker down let's see what the call is personal foul kick [Applause] so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty and the Jaguars are on the Move Lopez wants to fire the quarterback bought as much time as he could but the defense got to him and Sack and finally you're seeing some life from the defense they've been struggling all game long up to this point but backto back sacks on two consecutive plays they're at least still trying to fight back in this game after losing a couple of yards it's now second and 12 as they try to keep this drive moving moving the running back forcing the defense to adjust and the ball is out who's going to get it oh the offense of Firsts absolute Disaster by Falling on that fumble well ball security doesn't just apply to running backs receivers QB's got to keep two hands on the ball as well and they're very lucky after that fumble that the offense jumped [Applause] on this will be the eighth play of the drive but a great opportunity for the defense to get off the field on Third and long doesn't need to take the check down and and the defense gets Rose bringing the Heat and down he goes again this quarterback is thinking to himself I need to get an nil deal at some restaurant so I can take my offensive line out and feed them more because I don't think they like me very much right now I've been sacked six times in this game it's time to get that new nil deal paycheck the Jaguars will call on their punt team this will be the second time they've had to kick it away Oh my he just shanked that one it'll go out of bounds depends on where they spot it but looks as if it'll be around the 45 North Texas sends the offense back onto the field able to SC three yards out of that one somehow it's second and seven North Texas in the hurry up looking for a man it's Morris quickly out to the tight end and he might be known for run fits but that was a sure and heavy tackle on the tight end I'll say this man in college football you see a lot of bad tackling you didn't see it right there that was an awesome job first off being there at the point of attack once the tight end made the catch there was no doubt he was going going down great job for [Applause] tack shotgun snap was to throw it on third got his man all by himself they've got the defense reeling right now with that big play to the 29 and even though they're trailing here in the fourth quarter they've got a quarterback that can bring them back but they need him now to play his A+ level of football we saw a nice completion on that last third down let's see if he can keep it going north Texas has it going to work with another first down using the quick game it's really easy to say the word RPO and say I'm going to run them but you got to make those decisions and you got to make them fast you can't get confused by all the craziness that's going on by all the guys moving around or talking nice job by the quarterback staying in the moment seeing it throwing the slant making sure he makes the right decision kept it on the ground on first down see if they stick with that plan on second throws to the wide out touchdown North Texas you thought they were done they're not they're back baby before that score considering last rights now all of a sudden they're not dead yet in fact they're feeling much better and they're alive and they've got a chance and I'm looking on the field right now I'm looking at their sideline they're energized Ree after that last score all of a sudden they believe they can come back and win this game this is a totally different looking team than what we saw [Applause] earlier he'll try to tack on one more exra point and with the extra point every little bit counts as they get closer a very efficient five play scoring Drive and they finish things up with a dart from 24 yds out lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive fielded In The End Zone it's Bullock he's brought down at the 16 would have been much better off to take the touch back south Alabama has it back the Jaguar offense going to work they'll run the RPO and pour it right he's brought down solid pickup but a little bit short of the first down using him out of the slot he has just been Unstoppable and I love putting Dynamic athletes in the slot that I can move around that I can put in motion that I can I can make him go in or out I can put him off the ball so you can't get hands on him and they've really featured this guy today to the ground with the back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one all right so I know the defense is going to be aggressive right they got their stop they forced a third down how how aggressive does the offense want to be in response cuz if I throw the football get a first down I can run this clock almost out this defense has to make a choice for this offense how aggressive do you want to be wants to throw on third he's right on Target and he breaks into the open pass the 20 and he ran away from the defense to take it in touchdown Jaguar and this receiver is on fire he's got all the skills to look for in a big time Target and that's already his second touchdown of the game [Music] let's see if they can roll Snake Eyes in a good way and get the deuce Lopez to pass makes the grab in the end zone for the two as they extend the lead quick strike offense on that three-play scoring drive and they finish it with with a flare a 77 yd touchdown pass the kickoff team takes the field to boot this one away he'll start the return inside as five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 North Texas takes possession the mean green offense will return to the field pulls it fir complete there to make the tackle but the big throw is good enough to give them a first down I think if you're the head coach at this point you're telling your offense doesn't matter what's happened up this point of the game obviously things haven't gone our way but we have a chance to execute in a two-minute situation and give ourselves a chance to win let's go do it one play at a time North Texas in the hurry up off the play fake on first down wants to throw pulls it in it's Ward nice pitch and catch there and they'll have enough for the first down they've got the weapons to stay aggressive you just made a big play let's see if we can take a shot here into the end zone score and try to save as much time on the clock as we can now on first down from the 43 yd line from the gun he leaves it with the back a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior that's a really good job by the defense wrapping him up getting them on the ground take away that run game make him onedimensional put him in passing situations really good job by the defense picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down hand off from the shotgun he stopped him at the 31 but not before he picks up 10 yds on the play this offense all game long has been running really well and I'm really impressed by how well they've recruited at the running back position they've got some Dynamic players coming into the game at different points spelling each other keeping each other fresh and they're hurting this defense North Texas has it going to work with another first down quick completion to the right and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few and offenses nowadays they're really just counting numbers how many guys do you have out wide how many guys do I have out wide if I have enough guys to block your guys boom it's just built into the offense pitch catch let me get a few yards they'll line up for a second down play back to throw it's Morris finds his big tight end and that is good versatility there and a big hit from the backer in pass coverage it's so important that this offense is able to stay on schedule and what that means is keeping third Downs manageable that last completion to the tight end accomplished just that really nice play already in Chip Shot field goal range at the 21 but this third and short they're still thinking touchdown they try to pick it up on the ground he is tackled but it'll be a fresh set of downs well the good news is is you got the first down running it there on second and short but the bad news is you're down by quite a bit here in the fourth quarter and two three four yard gains aren't going to get it done you've got to start chucking this thing vertically to get back in the game down to the 16 yd line it's first and 10 they're looking to pass from the Red Zone makes the grab along the sidelines but it'll be a little short of the first down my old coach said to never go broke taking a profit take what's there take the positive yards and never complain going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone running back searching for for a hole brought down at the seven after picking up [Music] three [Music] [Applause] third not a lot of ground to cover and not much to defend a big third down in the Red Zone they'll try to pick up the first through the air he caught it touchdown me green and the comeback is on that Big Score makes the end of this game very interesting no doubt the offense got what they needed more work to do but you had to get this part accomplished first getting set for the point after exra and it's up and good as they draw Just a Touch closer so it's a 77 yd touchdown drive and they Clos the deal with the seven Y for the score about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown from inside the 10 here he comes he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 guys we'll have another look at this South Alabama offense quick release on the RPO and the catch was one thing and the Run even better a big pick up on that one I'll be honest man if I had the weapons these guys had offensively I'd be staying aggressive too it's what got them to this point it's why they have the lead here in the fourth quarter take some shots when those opportunities present themselves the Jaguars headed quickly to the [Applause] line the pull and throw off the RPO and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up it's so nice as a quarterback when you've got a guy like that working for you in the slot he has such a good feel to find the Open Spaces in the defense just makes life so much easier for his quarterback we have arrived at the two-minute warning a onep possession game as this offense tries to hold [Applause] on you got to believe they just want to run it take care of the football and keep that clock moving moving on second and nine quarterback Quick Pass to the receiver they make the stop but there is a flag on the field we'll see what that's all [Applause] about we'll repeat the previous down but this time the offense has 10 more yards it has to cover they'll run the ball the clock is on their side he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense they're going to keep this drive going they'll have to make a play on Third and long from the 26 with Jet Sweep pass and this one will be stopped for no game defense uses a timeout quickly trying to get that ball back and preserve time for their offense and that's a gut punch especially if you're the offensive coordinator because that was sort of a foreign look a pre- snap motion a timing play trying to get the receiver the football quickly you're expecting to outflank the defense but give the defense a ton of credit they made the bigger play and now they've set you up in a fourth down North Texas sends the offense back onto the field dropping back it's Morris makes the grab over the middle and he laid the lumber to stop him from getting get the first down defense comes up with a really big stop there that's nice they don't give up the first down so the clock keeps working but they're on their own end of the field they know this offense is going to start taking shots into the end zone they better have some guys ready on the back end ready to swat some balls away and make some plays he's going to pass on second down firing to the right complete and the defense makes the immediate tackle but he has enough for the first down and you see so many smart wide receivers so many smart tight ends nowadays that they know where the holes in those zones are and they work with their quarterback and they find them and they sit down in them and make big plays it's tough to sit back in zone against such smart players nowadays trying to find his man on first down and wings it incomplete this really has been a Master Class by the quarterback with decision making right we've already seen him throw multiple touch passes in the game he's understood when to take his shots and when to throw it away when things aren't there like on that last play now on second down he's looking to throw and he really needed to hold on to that one but it was not loose and third down is coming third and long defense knows the pass is coming so they're going to have guys with their eyes on the QB but they're going to try to get to him with pressure pinning their ears back if you're on offense you might be thinking Blitz here better get rid of this one quick third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off he's got an open man and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play well this defense has tried to find ways to disguise their coverage and mix it up to try to confuse the QB it's not working though that last completion he's now get over 300 yards passing most important part of a clutch Drive piece together some first downs get in position and here they are on First and 10 makes a catch they will score touchdown North Texas man great execution that is how it's done late in the football game now all you need is that extra point bring the kicker out there this is what you do just like practice knock it through the uprights tie this football game and we might be looking it overtime [Applause] soon so you think this is automatic they need this one badly and the extra point was good and we are all tied up in the fourth so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they've got it locked up in the final minute after the touchdown and extra point coming down the stretch in the fourth and we are all tied up set to kick it away he'll bring it back from inside his five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 the Jaguars offense ready to go back to work this one is about finding the balance between being aggressive and not being Reckless Jesse the only way this thing works though if they're going to be aggressive this offensive line has got to be able to hold up here for this QB yeah because you need to take shots beyond the sticks so the clock will stop and you can save every second you have let's see what they've got on second down four quarters not enough to settle this one we are headed to overtime and these teams have played so well back and forth evenly contested game how about a little free football Jesse yeah I love this David free football and finding out which of these two teams is the most mature who can settle down now with the game on the line and make the big play all right guys so here we go in overtime and just to refresh everyone's memory alternating possession starting on the opponent's 25 and it's so nice to be on defense first to to set the tone to understand what you need try to hold him to a field goal the offense knows they can do their job to go out and get a win just two possessions Palmer like you got to be at your best yeah and I love the new rules too because in the third overtime possession it goes to alternating two-point plays back and forth who's got anything left in the tank here in OT finds a little bit of room give him a couple down to the 23 second down coming [Applause] up picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down Lopez wants to fire throws for the tight end got his man so close to that end zone he could almost taste it but it'll be first and goal for this offense first and goal as they try to jump on top here in overtime turning to the running game on first and goal he steps and powers and works his way they finally get him down at the two offense trying to pay it off on second and goal tries again to get it in nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry third [Applause] and field is condensed now not a lot of room to work with here on Third and goal in overtime wants to fire It In The End Zone on Third and goal quarterback moving touchdown South Alabama and they're on top here in overtime what a run for this playmaker to just elude the defense and get in for the score and I tell you what defensively you can't go let this guy get on the edges you cannot give up contain your defense ends you got to stay outside you got to make sure you know this guy's going to scramble and try to make plays and you got to make sure you keep him in the [Music] [Applause] pocket this extra point would give them a seven-point lead and OT and the extra point is true and they're on top by seven they know what's in front of them they have to answer that score with a touchdown he'll start this drive firing right down the middle makes the grab touchdown mean green they got it in the end zone now a decision to make with a point after you got to be impressed with the level of execution here in the second Drive of OT one place score a touchdown and now it's decision time David you kick the extra point and keep this thing going or do you go for two and try to win yeah and you're right the response was amazing I mean you give up a touchdown you you have a tendency to get down on yourself no no no no first play great execution now do I go for the win do do I play this safe or do I go try to take this moment right now and get the W that's going to do it for us for Jesse Palmer David Pollock our entire broadcast team I'm Rees Davis this has been another presentation of sports college football and he puts through the extra points we play on first down here in the second overtime period looking to throw it's Morris quickly complete they make the stop right there good pickup it's still short of the first down bring second North Tex is doing business from the Red Zone on second down looking to throw finds his Target down the middle he is down at the one a terrific run after the throw and catch this thing has been back and forth now first and goal as they try to take the lead in overtime number two with the run on first and goal touchdown North Texas that score gives them the lead here in the second overtime number down in tight to the goal line you saw some good movement up front by the offensive line getting a push and giving that running back a chance now in the second overtime you must go for the two-point conversion they'll Run play action they got it executed beautifully and the lead is eight in oama now on first down they need to answer with a touchdown they'll start this drive with a pass got the back over the middle of first snap in the Red Zone on this drive give to the back they get him on the ground after he gets enough to move the sticks [Applause] see what they dial up on First and 10 Lopez to pass going for six oh and it's intercepted a turnover in overtime taking it the other way the 50 the 40 at the 30 he's at the 10 and it's going to be a pick six touchdown me green dude you're just thinking hold him to three make him kick a field goal don't let him score points heck no you turn it into offense what a play catches the ball in the end zone take a knee take a knee no sir I'm
