all right and we're back post SEC media days and we got a new list to talk about I know that is y'all's favorite thing to comb through to discuss but today I'm joined by Jay from unfair Sports the sooner or later podcast locked in um the lock locked on Sooners and then you got the SEC connect yeah the connect yeah I'm I'm everywhere man I'm working too hard yeah that's what it is I'm working too much eventually one day he'll be with ESPN up there next to Stephen A Smith call Big Five board we'll call it one no no no no no I I would like for them to invest more into college sports and throw me on just to the college football show but thanks PG for having me and I appreciate you coming on well Jay before we dive into the preseason list that was announced today just I want to hear about SEC media days because this was your first time getting to go to any of these type of days you got to go to uh the it sounded like the SEC days was Elite better than the Big 12 maybe even better than any of the other conferences that have them out there so what were some of your initial thoughts from the weekend yeah no so you know in talking to a lot of the media members that from the Big 12 era and those that used to cover that covered Oklahoma or even Texas or whatnot they all talked about how the the big difference the SEC does a fantastic job of being just organized you could tell it means more right and you can tell that there there's a lot of there a lot of bigname hands in it like ESPN has a very big hand into the setup of stuff because it looked like something that would come from the production of ESPN I mean they had designated areas that people couldn't go into and not to they had setups for Paul fine bomb SEC now and like you know you could see them doing remotes into uh first take while we were there in the room right we're in the room the room that they're doing the presentations in the Omni you've got in the back of it you see Laura rutage you see Nick Sabin you see all these people back there you know Jordan Rogers you see all of them back there talking on the SEC network and so in some shots you can see me walking behind them while they're talking or what now same thing with Paul Fine bom while he's talking you can see me walking behind him in the camera and stuff so it was cool seeing all of that out in the open as it was complet like readily available in front of everybody and and yeah it it was a very very very cool experience I got to meet a lot of cool people so pretty excited about it that's awesome that's awesome well I want to go ahead and jump into this all SEC list here I saw it come out earlier and I was a little confused Oklahoma's only got three here which I guess I shouldn't have expected anything else with the way that people talked about Oklahoma over the past week but you've got Danny stutzman and Billy Bowman being first teamers and then Deon Burks being on third team there's a couple guys missing off this list I think you and I are in the green when we're talking about it Nick Anderson Gentry Williams uh I mean I don't think Oklahoma expected to have anybody in the offensive line but Branson Hickman was a pretty good Center last year so what's your thoughts around Oklahoma only having three guys on this list and you know is there anybody that you think noteworthy that was snubbed yeah I think it was kind of expected right when I did my votes I threw on you know those two I added Deon Burks as well I also had I had one vote for fabich weu I think he's going to be the sleeper on there I threw Dominic on one I also threw Gentry Williams on another so I knew that that the SEC wasn't going to just immediately gravitate to Oklahoma Dion Burks is considered a potential first round pick and everyone's been talking him up especially since his days at Purdue and what he could do with very little in comparison to what he has here now he's expected to break out we know Danny stutzman we know Billy Bowman how both of them was really snubbed from their Awards and we expect them to show out and get themselves there but yeah Nick Anderson's probably the one that should have been looked at right shout out to CJ vogle over there on Texas right he's a Texas guy and he threw Nick Anderson on his board as a starter he thought Nick Anderson was up there and he thought he was better than Isa a bond and you know when he looked at the numbers and stuff it's true you know when I went back I went back and looked at my production you know Nick Anderson has 10 less catches with with 130 more yards and 10 touchdowns compared to what six five four something like that so yeah Nick is definitely one that's going to show out and I think the and Teddy Layman said this he tweeted this out and I thought it was basically spoton if you have a wide receiver that's 64 220 runs roughly in the 44 4 five range no one would stop talking about him like he's the dude that everybody's going to constantly talk about and yeah that's the thing that threw me off too was like y if you really think about it Nick should be on this list actually really high because yeah the kids's good yeah and I again I look at it and say Gentry Williams a potential I think I saw one mark draft a while ago him going in the first round uh I think it was like at number 28 I do Wonder like is it just the one season that these guys have played and not enough proof of concept that kept them off these lists I think that's what it is it's the it's no one's a believer in the SEC about our defense yet right even though we've seen Bren venables do it no one's just saying oh yeah I definitely see this happening which I understand I'm not going to knock mainly because we do need to go out there and prove it right you know we did improve from six and seven to 10 and three but we still need to prove ourselves right and that's my favorite part about the way that these players have taken it instead of having it in their minds that oh you know they're being disrespectful blah blah blah you know saying that we're way better than that they're not saying anything they're just like okay not it vinales even said in one of his in one of his media availabilities he's just like we're just ready to go out there and prove it we're ready we're running to the SEC we're running to the challenge that's what we're doing and so because of that I'm on Bor with him right keep doubting the team keep saying that they're not going to be good keep saying that they're not SEC ready it's fine they're going to go out there is going to show you what they are love to hear that so looking at Danny stman Billy Bowman first teamers a lot of people are going to look at the other key defensive piece that is on the line OU fans are going to look at it and say where's Dominic Williams on this list why didn't he make it and I think one of the things that I look at is he played in the Big 12 moving to the SEC I think there's a lot of unknown there uh I think there might be questions on hey like is he going to be able to perform at that same level which is why he might have been left off the list it's kind of fascinating with that right I mean you see on here you've got uh Trey Moore for Texas he made the third team and he was at UTSA right before that right you I would have expected him to get a little bit more respect than that but yeah that's really what it is right he he has to show he has to prove himself to them right even though just about all the SEC schools that could go after him went after him and tried to get them on their team a lot of it is that it with Oklahoma most of the media members don't believe that Oklahoma's ready and they want to see them prove themselves because historically we have not had a defense and historically when our offense is good is because we've come back with a lot of continuity now we're got a lot of players that are refreshing we just got to prove ourselves and I'm going keep saying it over and over you'll see it on my channel you'll see it anytime I talk about it it's okay we just need to go out there and prove it and when we prove it everybody's going to shut up they're going to be like oh so yall was telling us that this team's going to be a lot better than you think and he went out there it was a lot better than you than we thought that's what matters so the focus now is keep pushing and keep proving people wrong keep proving people wrong and I want to shift to SEC media days now and get some indepth um ideas around what happened and I want to specifically talk about Oklahoma uh we can talk about what drink wit said about STI and everything else giving everybody a good laugh but Oklahoma was the new kid on the Block this time around and I'm more curious what stood out to you about what Brent vinales or Danny stman or Billy Bowman said this week I liked how B like first I liked how Bren vinales pointed out that we're here to run to the SEC we're not intimidated or afraid we we need the challenge the challenge is what we want and we really need that was huge to me right that was a few dumb questions that was asked I think the dumbest question I heard was somebody asked asked him about recruiting and how he's going to handle competing with like Arkansas and Texas A&M now that they have access to their ter to our territory and it's like did you not see us get the top two players out of Arkansas like recently Defenders we did we did that uh we've been recruiting in Texas for years so how would Texas A&M be a problem for us right we've been competing with SEC schools and SEC territories for years this is not something new for us right I mean stman comes out of Florida for goodness s leis Carter is another Florida boy EPL is another Florida boy we got a list Florida boys Marvin Mims was a you know Hollywood Brown Florida boy right you got out a list of players that have come to Oklahoma coming from Florida right so it's was like what what do we doing here and so it was good to see you know venables kind of push back on some of that and he was very poised right he was the second shortest opening statement of anybody which was fascinating to see here would never thought right and and you know all jokes aside I agree with all the jokesters there that we would have lost our butt on if we would have bet that what how long he would have gone we would have all lost I would have not taken an under and he gave us way under Hugh freeze was 3 minutes and 56 seconds he was four minutes and 30 Hugh F was the only person that beat him and then Sark was second longest not have expected that long of a monologue from him either so but he was very poised and direct you could sell that he was focused he knew what he wanted to say knew what he want to talk about and he focused on that and that's something I appreciated out of venables and that portion of it Billy was interesting of pointing out how mature the defense has gotten same thing with stutsman both of them talked about the rooms and how great the how the how much the rooms have grown especially being in the system I love that we're three years in a Bren venables defense and we've got a lot of guys that can teach everybody else how to work in a Brent Venable defense and bringing Zack Alli in who rumor has it has simplified the defense for some of the guys to make it to where they can catch it on a little bit faster cuz he runs the same defense but he uses different terminology to kind of help with understanding your locations right he basically is modernizing what Brandon vbl has been doing for years because allly was with him for eight years at Clemson that's kind of a huge deal to me right is that you got a guy that was taking that take took that defense and found a way to make it make it translate better for the younger crowd so I think that that's going to be the big game changer that people aren't going to recognize hence why I said the defense is going to be so much better and then Jackson Arnold was really good right the questions were peppered on him about him prep being prepared and how's he going to handle being thrust into the SEC and he talked about yeah as a freshman in high school I was tossed into the national champion into the into the State title game right I'm ready I was a young pup when I was thrown into some of the stuff that I was thrown into I'm ready for it hey honestly quite frankly I think he is too yeah I was definitely impressed with Jackson Arnold's Poise uh as a true sophomore quarterback um and it was interesting because you didn't see Tennessee bring theirs um you know yeah I didn't see Nico yeah shocked me yeah so it was interesting that Britton vinales brought his true sophomore quarterback but I think that should give Oklahoma fans a little bit of a I guess good feelings here knowing that Jackson Arnold seems like a grown-up on that stage yeah he did and and venal even made mention of how poised and how much the leaders are at the school he raved about their leadership and raved about them and that that to me told me everything I need to know about how comfortable and confident he is in these players right he talked them up the entire time and shoot that makes me say oh okay so we're here now right you you really are putting all your chips in the middle on these guys and I love it that tells I he's a very reserved dude when it comes to a lot of stuff right first year when he first got here he immediately said he had to rip this bad boy down to the studs I'mma keep reminding y'all that and he did he did and he pointed out all the faults and stuff on his side and he even talked about last season the biggest fault that we had is that we couldn't handle success very well and he said that's something we've got to change that's the mentality we have to change I think we will this year I think that that last year was exactly what we needed to be better prepared for this coming season love to hear that love to hear that so post SEC media's day jay what's your thoughts on Oklahoma what's your thoughts on the SEC what is Oklahoma going to do this year I've already had him I put my ballot in I had Oklahoma finished third right I think the biggest problem we're going to run into is I think Kellen dor is going to figure things out at Alabama a little faster than we want so he that's going to be a block in front of us I do think it's going to be the standard chalk that you would get out of the SEC over the last like 10 years it's going to be George Alabama at the top that's kind of what I'm seeing right and I have Oklahoma coming in third I think that in our best season if I was to give a best prediction I think we finish 11-1 I don't think we'll go undefeated I think somebody's going to make us stumble and I think 11-1 is probably where we're going to end up at which isn't a bad record everybody would take that in a heartbeat and the potential loss is most likely Alabama late in the season but the thing is we got to see where they're at I do think that Georgia goes undefeated though I don't think anybody beats Georgia I don't think anybody on their schedule is going to be give him enough of a problem I mean Clemson's going to be a fun game but I don't think Clemson's defense is set like it used to be with Bren venables right you can tell their defense doesn't look the same and K kutnick with uh the Garrett Riley offense unless he goes out there and plays out of his mind I don't see them winning that game but if they do that will be Georgia's probably only loss of the Season cuz I don't think anybody in SEC is going to beat him I think they go down to Texas and beat up on Texas after Texas plays against us it's going to be where the problem lies for them to me their biggest issue to me on their schedule is the fact they play us back toback that's gonna be tough I think it's gonna help Georgia since they're not coming off the national championship they're not going to have that National Championship high that hangover nope nope it's interesting though you don't think Alabama can beat Georgia this year I don't think so I don't think Alabama beat Georgia this year it's in Tuscaloosa I don't think they beat Georgia this year I think I think they can go and win in Georgia I don't think they beat Georgia I think Georgia continues their undefeated streak in the SEC you know they have not lost a game in the SC actual SEC season in conference play since 2020 I don't think that they lose one this year either now as Championship I can totally see them losing that but I don't think they lose an inseason game it's just and it's too early in the season for me to believe that Alabama's going to have it all together I think Alabama gets it together later in the season okay okay that's that's take right there all right Jay where can people find you at where can people find
