Intro today I'm going to give you guys tips to get better on defense in college football 25 now I'm in no way saying I'm a pro or the best in a game or anything like that but these are just tips that help me and if I can help even a few people with this video then you know that's pretty much all I want to do Practice first things first I want you to go to game settings and turn the skill level to Heisman this is the toughest difficulty and you know you practice how you play and that's the first tip practice okay many games in open practice you're going to spend a lot of time here first thing I want to do go into mini games go to defense do Chase and Tackle Chase and Tackle double trouble don't worry about getting gold or or you know anything like that just get in there and practice strafing how you strafe is L2 on PS5 that keeps you facing the line of scrimmage okay now as you can see the first attempt I already let up a touchdown but if you strafe that helps you stay in front of the ball carrier and eight times out of 10 you're going to go ahead and put yourself in position to make a play or at least slow them down to where your teammates can help you out so you see there's a lot of Miss tackles it's College you're going to miss tackles nine times out of 10 but the more you practice strafing staying you know facing the line of scrimmage facing the ball carrier the better off you'll be in real game situations now you also have to know when to strafe and when to turn around and run okay when to go ahead and hit that turbo so you do Chase and Tackle Chase and Tackle Double Trouble is the same thing but it's just the read option so you have to you know account for the quarterback as well but I also want you to go to open practice give yourself a challenge so even if I'm using Temple let's go ahead and choose like a USC like a ranked opponent so Tips what I want you to do first off you're going to flip sides get on defense call whichever formation you like you know you have three three5 stack you have nickel with four down lineman I'm going to come out in this one if I know I'm going to you know play against the run on offense I want you to go to the concept screen and look at run and then on the bottom left you can see double tap random run I want you to do that now on Def defense you know they're running so you could cheat press triangle or Y on Xbox and go ahead and show blitz so it be triangle R1 and bring people up to line of scrimmage you could also pinch the D line by pressing left on the d-pad and then down that'll pinch the D line and now you're ready to stop the run like it's not 100% but you're looking good pre- snap you can bring up the safety you know it's late in the game they're chewing clock they have the lead or it's early in the game they they're run heavy team you want as many people in the Box as possible this time they're going to the outside though so right there oh wow see they're going to break tackles like crazy like it's going to be tough right right there I clicked on to a different player at the last second to make the CPU have to go ahead and make the tackle now that bought me a little bit of time so I could bring up another Defender that's another tip you can do you can click off at the last second but you have to time it that one's a little tricky you have to get good at doing that otherwise it's going to leave you exposed okay more often than not you want to stay on your own player but that is another thing you can do do right here I'm going to use your store get a little closer to the line of scrimmage click on to another player as soon as you can that's another tip I I want you to click on to a player close to the ball carrier if you get yeah if you get beat don't hey don't dwell on getting beat switch immediately but get in the lab get in practice mode stay here for hours if you have to you will get better you will lab just by practicing you will improve your tackling you'll learn to strafe a lot more in certain situations open field situations you'll learn to click off and let the CPU handle it you'll learn how to click immediately onto a different Defender and your tackling will improve next up I want you Shells to learn coverage shells if you don't know what those are it's a way to disguise coverages pretty much okay so I'm going to come out and cover one hole and Niel 33 over but at the bottom you can see it says right stick shell default you flick that to the right or the left you can get different coverages so if I want to go ahead and you know act as if I'm blitzing we're going to come out and cover zero okay shell cover zero but I'm still calling cover one hole on offense we're just going to call Play Type double tap random pass we show Blitz looks like it's cover zero looks like there's nobody over top like it looks like everyone's blitzing but as you can see we're ready for that there's definitely a safety over top now if you wanted to see how he went to the tight end immediately maybe you can switch it up right now I'm taking a lot of time to do this pre- snap adjustment but in real games you're going to have to learn to be quick now if you wanted to switch it and put you know right on this tight end instead of the left linebacker go ahead and press press x man coverage and then boom press X on whichever guy you want him to cover and then you can go ahead and use a store put him in a you know put him in a Zone user whatever you want to do so he can't go ahead and quick snap you and go to the tight end so now let's see what they do it looks like cover zero and boom just like that we got the interception because we used the the shell okay we went ahead and use shell so first thing I want to do triangle R1 to show Blitz same thing these are you have to be quick with this that's why I want you to do it in practice mode okay so I'm going to do the same thing I just did put right on that tight end you got to practice triangle X and then you know whichever button that tight end is and then you go back to the other one and boom so now if you still want to go ahead and and show that it's cover zero you can leave this guy here but yeah that that's much better having this linebacker cover the tight end instead of this one you know because you know he has a lot of ground to make up so this is what it's going to look like triangle R1 to show Square L2 that's how you really go cover zero so if you want to come out and act as if there's nobody over top triangle R1 show Blitz and then Square L2 that gives you the reset play for some reason that's you know that's how you get that look of true cover zero but obviously we know there's a safety going deep so let's see what they do now we're all over it and then what I say the practice we were ready in case that running back wanted to take off off but of course that was you know a pass play so that was just one option of a coverage Shell let's try a different one so right here we're going to come out in dime two3 odd cover three lock and the shell is going to be twom man so as if we're in man coverage offense Play Type random pass so here you go it looks like we're man coverage but really we're in zone and now the quarterback's like what the heck what just happened boom interception he doesn't know what just hit him because we had the shell and now we get a turnover just like that take another look at it looks like we're in man coverage looks like everyone's manned up but only you know what zone you're in only you know your actual coverage next up I want you to focus on Coach adjustments yeah this is a quick one it's been in Madden for a while now but this is something you should do pretty much every single game as soon as you get on defense if you're playing a team that's really fast 98 speed wide receiver and you have like a 94 95 speed cornerback you might want to go ahead and you know put cornerback matchups by speed you might want to do that if you have just a 6'4 cornerback and they have like a six seven wide receiver you might want to go ahead and put it by height it all depends on what you want to do could leave it on balance could put it on overall whatever you know works for you defensive motion response you can go default disabled I usually do default option defense read key and Pitch key depends if you want to focus on a quarterback they come out running a lot of read option and killing you on the ground with like Jaylen milro or a fast quarterback you might want to go ahead and put conservative on both of these strip ball I like to go balance but if it's late in a game you need to be aggressive go ahead and do it but you know you're going to risk getting tackles broken if you just want to make sure you don't let up broken tackles you might want to put on conservative you know you won't get any strips but there'll be lower break tackle chances tackling once again go ahead and put that on conservative if you want but that might allow yards after contact if you need a turnover you know you want to be aggressive go ahead and put it on aggressive but I like leaving that on balance now this is the big one zone drops especially if you're using shells this is huge so if I come on cover two and I'm showing cover zero I might want to put my flats at like 25 to 30 just so I don't get beat over top me personally I like leaving it between 20 to 25 depending on what kind of coverage I'm playing what kind of you know offense I'm going up against cow Flats if it's like third and short I'm going zero if he's running a lot of flats a lot of you know routes to his running back out of the back field I'm coming out with zero on my curl flat and I'm calling a lot of cover three but normally I probably leave it around five you know you can always change this before plays so if it's down in distance like third and one third and two I might put it at zero just to make sure I'm covering the flats hooks I like leaving that on default so let me show you what I mean coming out in cover three buzz match why not shell I'm going to put it back at cover zero and on offense I'm going to act as if it's like third and short right so I'm going to come out and mesh and now you're going to see this Smith maret the purple route and Johnson they're both going to be covering the 30 watch them watch them both on this play look how flat they get so he goes downfield that's fine but normally users are going to be focused on getting the first down so they're going to be looking a lot shorter look at that got the deflection we had all the running back routes covered we had every flat route covered and it makes it a lot more difficult look at this no one's open underneath he has to go deep and that's fine you know if the user can see that in the real game aome so I'm telling you man just you know focus on the coach adjustments that's a big part of your game that's how you'll get better nobody's open he has to throw it away just like that because we went to the coach adjustments and put the crow Flats zero you might have to look at that almost every play you're playing against a really good opponent back toback plays where they had to throw it away practice practice practice go through all the tips again pause it replay if you have to like the video if any of these tips helped you out a little bit and yeah let me know if you guys want to see more tip videos and I'll see you on the next one
