Renaming the PWHL Teams

you're going to have to make some more room in the closet this morning the league has just announced team names and logos the pwhl finally released their team names and logos and everybody's got their opinions in mine they're all terrible scepter scepter of ton it sounds a little weird I'm not sure it defines what the team is about like I don't see the women's hockey team in there I kind of like the the French name I don't think I would have chosen V2 I'm a big fan of everything they've done so far but these are just complete misses for me and yes like half of North America's sports team names are terrible but most of them especially the bad ones were made a very long time ago by people with very different thought processes and true if the team is around long enough a good name isn't all that important and teams will have fans especially local ones no matter what but there are so many bad Sports names and they'll still have fans aren't the excuses to make more bad ones the only people defending these seem to think they are and it just really sucks because there are so many available names that are way better so don't worry I'm not just here to dunk on the choices and then go well I don't know what they could have done but not that I've actually thought of some Alternatives they're all a little campy but that's good for sports and I think they all worked far better than whatever has happened here that charge is like you know sticking your iPhone into the wall I put about 1 hour into thinking of these so all I've done is a quick Google search to see if any of them were in use and I didn't see anyone using them if there were any issues you could always just tack on an adjective anyways so these options are available in case anyone wants a Rebrand now without further Ado let's look at why they did what they did and showcase some of what I would classify as as Superior options I'm going to go in order of my ranking for how good the names they went with are from first to sixth so first we've got the Boston fleet Fleet pays homage to Boston's Collective spirit and Rich Maritime history representing the city's unified strength and resilience it's basically that Boston has boats in it the logo combines the iconic letter B in the team's primary deep green color with an anchor symbolizing Boston's identity and nautical Heritage the forward-leaning shape communicates momentum reflecting the city's sporting Legacy and the team's advancement on the ice obviously it looks like a rotated Whaler's logo but it's the only logo in the league that had any effort put into it whatsoever and it's the only logo that didn't look like someone's first day experimenting with generative AI or someone's first day experimenting with Photoshop now I would have gone with the Boston banshees Boston is obsessed with Irish heritage and banshees are female Spirits in Gaelic folklore whose wailing screams would be the first warning sign of death sounds hard as hell it's literation and you have all kinds of freedom for Logos to just do whatever you want and make it sweet next we have the Minnesota Frost about as generic as you could get not as bad as others but still sucks Frost embodies the state of hockey's Dee rooted love for the ice and the sport that has become a Timeless tradition bridging Generations so hockey is cold the logo features a stylized letter F in the team's core purple with angular edges and sharp points reminiscent of icicles while the overall design conveys a sense of competitive intensity and fierceness I would have gone with the Minnesota Mayors not Mayors like in charge of a city but female horses horses are very cool animals in many ways and they're already always used as analogies or turns of phrase you guys can use horse power as a slogan and it would be very easy to make a logo for so need I say more next up the Montreal victoire vict Montreal Victor embodies Montreal's joyously competitive Spirit acting as inspiration for the city to climb to even greater sporting Heights win or lose victoire is a mindset celebrating the city's pursuit of achievement so I guess it's just the Montreal winners the logo featur wing-like shapes in the team's signature deep burgundy color subtly alluding to the goddess of Victory and symbolizing strength and Agility subtle indeed a hidden m in the wings pays homage to the greater Montreal additionally a FLIR Le a national symbol of Quebec is gracefully integrated and evokes the rich cultural history of the province and City logo looks like a logo for sure but for what maybe a baseball team it all just looks like random stuff so it looks very corporate or AI generated I would have gone with I'm allowed to butcher French by the way as I have a Quebec birth certificate so yeah the Montreal snow foxes or arctic foxes it undeniably has a better ring in French so we could all just keep it that way and try and learn something regardless snow animals ice hockey simple better than the Montreal winners next the Toronto scepter the scepter embody Toronto's Regal history and commanding presence reflected in the moncher Queen City and iconic places like Queen Street one of the city's most culturally vibr thoroughfares connecting diverse neighborhoods and showcasing Toronto's Rich Heritage ah yes because monarchs have been notoriously inclusive and beneficial the ornamented scepter itself is a symbol of power and strength found in courts and palaces today it'll be wielded on Ice by Toronto's hockey royalty so they're just a stick that someone who no one in the right mind likes holds is it like their hockey sticks are scepter or something I don't know the color palette centers around a rich royal blue the emblem combines the initials T and S to represent Toronto scepter with the addition of a scepter Motif to invoke power reflecting the team's identity and spirit the beveled edges add a sense of depth and solidarity enhancing its Regal quality and imbuing it with a tangible prestigious feel invoking the team's name and image absolute word soup they wanted a baseball likee logo and ended up with a money sign I suggest the Toronto egogo it's even just a very unique word and it's fun to say but also anapo is a mythical sea monster based in Lake Simco so just take it run and makes sweet sea monster branding your fan chant could be let aogo come on next the New York Sirens sirens is an Ode to New York City's one-of-a-kind energy pace and Rhythm embodying the city's sounds and people Sirens also speaks to The Sweet Sound of the goal horn after the punk goes in the net how New York missed out on the mythical sirens is beyond me they're seriously just the noisy Sirens good Lord but it's not a good name either way the logo dominated by the team's vibrant teal reflects the intensity of New York and evokes the gritty cityscape the reverberating s visually mimics sound waves and the angular design of NY pays homage to New York's iconic architecture for me it's just an awful logo plain and simple I suggest the New York amarok an amarok is a gigantic wolf in Inuit religion pretty cool almost anything would have been better than physical Sirens I would have taken Rat Queens over that but at least the siren is annoying so that makes it better than the Ottawa charge charge pays tribute to Ottawa itself from the city's motto Advance Ottawa in advant nodding to its constant state of dynamic growth and forward progress as Canada's capital city right it should have been the Ottawa inflation the logo leading with the team's core color red features a monogram o designed to convey a sense of energy and movement signifying the team's electrifying presence on the ice the O is crafted to resemble a spinning object brimming with electrical current representing the power that fans bring to every game spikes radiating from the back of the O emphasize forward momentum in the spirit of the city a faceted cut in front of the O introduces a slight nod to the letter c linking the design back to the team's name charge AKA we used Ai and ended up with a ripoff of the Calgary Flames Andor Cleveland Cavaliers logo just awful my suggestion would be the Ottawa wendigo there's a Wisconsin windigo in the tier 2 Junior League the nahl you could just use the much more common W spelling in instead of the wi add an adjective or just go with it regardless that league has an Austin Bruins after all a wendo is a mythical cannibalistic humanoid deer rabbit monster thing with a heart of ice that originated from Algonquin folklore but sure charge you know I think it's good I think it represents um the women when they're out on the ice anyways there you have it in my opinion those are all better than the Abominations of the league just released the bottom line was all those names felt generic safe corporate lame or all four so I've tried to come at this from the opposite approach I don't know who thought of these names or who made the logos but my first guess would be AI for both and I kind of hope they were AI because anything else insinuates do someone put time into thinking of these and landed on that's good they all unfortunately remind me of the worst WNBA names that all already sounded like they were scraping the bottom of the barrel let me know what you think in the comments along with any other ideas you feel would be improvements over what they went with District 5 is on patreon y'all it's the best way to support the Channel all my videos will be posted there ad free and I'll eventually be doing more aesthetic based stuff like this strictly on there if you're into that but yeah thanks for watching and until next time [Music]
