yo what's going on guys it's Houston Sports Talk Back another video day and today the Houston Astros have signed Hector neres and I'm so glad so glad that Hector neres is coming back to the Houston Astros I mean um I had a big feeling when the Houston Astros uh you know when we all got the news all us Astros fans got the news that the Chicago Cubs were releasing Hector nerz um I I had a I had a I had a big feel the Astros were going to pick him up um now I I'd already talked about the Astros potentially acquiring Hector NES uh but it it was not the way you would think I talked about a potential trade for the Astros trading for nears and the reason why I I talked about it was because I don't know if you guys remember this but there were some rumors uh before you know during trade deadline week that the Astros had interest in starting pitcher for the Chicago CBS Jam James and tyion um and I really wanted the Astros to go get him um and I I actually thought the Astros were going to go trade for him um now they ended up you know got us Kikuchi that was the deal they made I'm fine with that because us has been incredible as a starter for the Astros in his first what three or four starts as a Houston Astro he's been insane so no complaints for the Astros choosing you say Kikuchi over James and tyion and if you look at it James tyion is a guy who's under contract longer than us say Kikuchi and has been better than him this season honestly I know a lot of people have said that the Astros gave up the price they gave up with Joey L perfo will Wagner and Jake Bloss but realistically if the asers gave up those three for you say Kikuchi and expiring deal who was struggling imagine what they'd have to give up for a guy like champion tyion who uh is you know you know has multiple years left on his deal I don't think he's a free until like 2026 or 2027 so you guys were upset about the the package the asers gave up for you say that the package that the ashes would have had to give up for jamus and tyion would have been incred would would have been insane um but so there were those rumors about jamus and tyion you know end you know potentially ending up in Houston and the first thing I thought of when I saw those you know that that you know those rumors was I'd love for the Astros to trade for James and tyion but i' also love for them to bring back Hector neres and I noticed that you know there was a potential chance the Cubs could potentially put him up on the trade market um you know with them being sort of sellers there the clbs were weird at the deadline because they were sellers but they were also kind of buyers as well they were selling players looking to get rid of players but then they were also you know kind of buyers as well vended up trading for isach PES as well made you know picked up some guys so they were both buer and sellers and um I actually kind of wanted them to bring back Hector and um you know also bring in Jameson tyion I talked about I talked about it in a couple of different videos talking about the Astros sending a a whole bunch of prospects to you know bring in Jameson tyion as a starting pitcher and also uh bring back Hector and um I got a lot of positive feedback about the Astros bringing back Hector and a lot of people different people said they love for Hector to be back with the Astros and as the trade deadline passed I was hoping that the Cubs would release and I thought with that contract and the option he had coming up that there was a solid chance it could happen that you could see you know him get released and it happened and the Astros decided to take action on it and picked him up um now he's had a bad year and I know this is something that has concerned fans now look this this is this is what A bad year is for Hector uh a 3.89 ra with eight and4 record 46 games pitched uh with 17 saves and 44 Innings pitched giving up 41 hits 20 runs 19 earned runs four home runs 26 walks with 46 strikeouts now the first thing I want to mention is he was kind of moved into the saver you know being the sa you know being this being the uh being the saver for the Chicago Cubs his past season 2024 where he has 17 saves for Chicago out of 46 games he's been the saver for Chicago most of the time this year that is something he was not with the Astros at all uh he was the guy to pitch in the seventh or eighth inning for the Astros he was the guy that you know was helpful in those Innings or in the sixth inning sometimes uh cuz he pitched a total of 71 games in 2023 and even if you want to go to 2022 70 games so with the Astros he played pitch in 141 games and he only had five saves he was not he was not a he was not a guy that went out there and got a save would get a save for the Astros he's a guy that would pitch in the seventh or eighth inning so this is something he had not done recently now in Philadelphia in 2021 he was a little bit of a saver uh in 2021 or or sorry closer in 21 it's the proper word I should have been using he was a little bit of a closer in 2021 with 12 saves um but only in in 74 games so he was he did a little bit of a closing for Philadelphia in 2021 but not a lot he really only year in his career there are only really two years in his career where he has been a closer that that's 2019 with the Philadelphia Philadelphia Phillies and 2017 as well um and that's that's something he hasn't done in well last two years he's been pitching with the Astros he's been you know a guy that's pitch in the later innings in the area of you know area six sixth seventh or eighth inning I think that's something you're going to see him do uh now I think that some some things I've seen people say is you the Astros have Taylor Scott now a guy who is you know a guy that the Astros use in that area of the sixth to seventh you know sixth seventh and eighth inning also Brian abau has been a guy who's been great in in that area this year he's been a the Astros have have used him in situations in the seventh and eighth inning Brian AB Bru has been great in those situations as well um those are two guys who have been really good this year a couple other guys uh like Caleb ort who the asers really like to use Brian King there are a lot of new guys in this Bullpen uh mainly the new guys I mean you that you can look at Josh hater being the the guy that pitches in the ninth uh and why that's important is Josh haer pitching the ninth now Ryan Presley is the setup man pitching in the eighth which is sometimes what Hector nerus would do uh Hector nerus used to be the setup man most of the time for Ryan Presley in the ninth now it's a little bit different because Presley is the setup man I know Presley's on the injured list right now um but it's it's looking like Presley's Presley's going to come back soon so what's kind of interesting is nearest was the setup man to the close of Ryan Presley but now Ryan Presley is the setup man um pitching in that eighth inning and then Brian BR is a guy who is either you know pitching in the eighth inning as the setup man or he's pitching the seventh inning Taylor Scott a guy who the Astros use U really all over the place in the sixth seventh or eighth um then there are other guys in the bullpen like Caleb ort um you know Caleb Caleb ort Brian King um who are guys the ashers like to use Shan Dubin as well Shan duban pitched two innings astr Caleb Ferguson is another guy um but I I still think Hector nerys provides value to this Bullpen um because I think there are a couple guys spef couple specific guys who could could use some extra rest going into the postseason two guy two specific guys I think could use some extra rest and have their arms fresh um for the post season one guy Taylor Scott he's been such a huge addition for disasters both this year he's been fantastic and he's a guy that uh I don't want the as to continue to you know use him in the regular season obviously he's great to have in the regular season but I think he's a guy that uh needs to start resting a little bit more as he's pitched so much this year he's a guy that needs to start resting a little bit more and get his arm ready for the postseason and I feel the same way about Brian and BR those are two those are going to be two strong arms for the Astros off the bullpen um in the postseason and I think you can probably say the same thing for Josh hater now I don't want to see less OPP I don't want to see Josh hater less uh but I think that's another arm in the bullpen that you want to see rested and if the Astros want to potentially give some more rest to Josh hater maybe you see Hector neres do something that he barely did in the 141 games he played as an astro maybe Hector nerus does a little bit of uh closing for the Astros if the Astros try to maybe give some more time off to Josh hater that's a potential possibility um but you know I think there there are a lot of good things of Hector nerys is coming in um but he you know he's going to be a guy who the Astros know what his value is he he he is he has done some great things for this Astros team 2023 1.71 erra with a six and3 record in 71 games pitched with two saves pitching 68 Innings giving up 41 hits 16 runs 133 earned runs 31 walks with 77 strikeouts he was fantastic in the 2022 postseason for the Houston Astros when the Astros won the World Series he pitched in eight games he had a 2-0 record for the Astros in 2022 with a 1.50 earay he pitched six Innings with nine strikeouts giving up only two hits one run one home which was a home run um in in his six Innings of work in the 2022 postseason was a big part of the Astros 2022 uh postseason success when they won a World Series was huge off the bullpen now this past year uh not not so good in the postseason uh 2023 for the Astros seven games pitch in the postseason 6.4 er uh pitching nine innings he had eight strikeouts giving up six hits six runs six both all six earned runs um and three home runs with five walks now I know it was a struggle in the postseason that's that was a big reason why the Astros did not want to bring him back or you know didn't hesitate to to bring him back uh but this is still a guy who was very valuable to the team in the regular season of 2023 in the postseason in 2022 and he even was really good for the Astros in 70 games in 2022 in the regular season with a 3.72 ER so it's going to be great to have him back pitching for the Astros but it's going to be interest interesting to see you know what his role will be like I mentioned when Presley is back we don't know when that will be but that should be in the next I would say in the next week or two Presley should be back so once Presley is back uh and there will be some time will near us when nerus will be on this team and and Presley will still be on the injured list but once Presley gets back um as nerus has at times has either been the seventh inning the guy to pitch in the seventh inning or the setup man in the eighth for Ryan Presley when Presley was this was the closer for the Astros um you know with hater as the closer now and Ryan Presley now is the setup man it's going to be interesting to see you know what Hector nerys does you know you're not going to really you're not going to really see him as the setup man uh with him being you know in the in the eighth inning um CU I think if Presley is not the setup man I think it's most like probably that's probably you know that's probably going to Brian and Bru I think we're we're probably going to see Hector ner most in the seventh inning if I had to predict you're probably going to see Hector ners most in the seventh inning and I also think we could see him a little bit um you know maybe in the six inning I think you could he's going to be potentially a guy if the Astros feel like they have to pull their starter a little bit early bring him in and ask him to you know go out there and maybe give you a couple Innings whether that's you know an inning and two thirds or inning and one/ third or it's the exact of two innings um so I think he could get some long relief of the Astros as well let me know your thoughts on the Astros signing Hector nus and him being back in as stros uniform so excited for this let me know your thoughts in the comments section and peace out go Astros
