What Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante got up to after training…

just want to let you lot know that if you're watching this clip on the fos cast YouTube channel the full episode is now available to watch exclusively on Spotify and it's free come on go back to the beginning of that season then um Angola kante signed 5.6 million quid one of the biggest bestest transfer bargain of all time we agreed that we did a podcast that we did it on our podcast um what are the first impressions of Angolo can because I've been at a football club where you signed these players and these names from clubs that you've never heard of before and this player walks in through the door and you're thinking oh God you know like he's only small surely he can't have much about him what are your first impressions of him um so I think first of all I think he was second choice to the the the player that they actually wanted so the lad that we signed when he left uh nle mendi he was like they wanted to sign him originally um but couldn't couldn't sign him so got kante instead had to settle with Ang had to settle with Angolo so uh but when he came in like his first session like he he raised a few eyebrows and we was like wow like this this guy is good yeah yeah um but it took a while for him to actually get in the team like I think he he made his debut by coming on for me um left wing so he played left wing for a couple of games and then um he eventually came on I think so we had gaan inla yeah uh at the time as well and he um I think he came on for him and then that was it then like once he was in that Center Midfield like there was nobody like that could how nice is it having an Angolo kante because everybody needs an Angola can everybody strives and just would it's it's a dream player isn't it every every team wants that player how good was he at the World Cup by the way incredible you want that guy who is so selfless yeah just workaholic it's not it's like he Prides himself do you know what I mean yeah yeah he Prides himself on being that guy but I think as well like it it helps so much and you'll you'll know this as well like it's it helps so much when you're a nice person as well like so like he was such a humble like downto Earth person like he was always smiling always happy probably had other stuff going on but like he he'd just come in every day and he'd just smile and it'd just be like amazing is it true that he drove he had a mini That season and he would just bowling in his little mini all season long he's not bothered by flash things that's what I mean this is is what I'm talking about in a world of absolute excess and money and watches and cars and he just bowls in in his mini all the time just wants to go and play football yeah even even after like after he left and um obviously he went on to win the league the following year so like I'd always like if if somebody goes on and do well I'd always send him a text I congratulations on like winning the league or then it was like congratulations on winning the Champions League congratulations on winning the World Cup got boring after a bit but he'd always message back as well like it it's what I like I just think it's so like so humbling like such a such a nice person it' always take the time to message back he's probably got millions of messages in his in his inbox but a lovely man brilliant um another player I want to talk about is on the opposite side to you Riyad MZ um Riyad was from a goalkeeper perspective he was an absolute nightmare he was a nightmare so he's playing on the right hand side and he would be cutting inside onto that left foot and he would be whipping shot crosses yeah yeah shot crosses seven or eight times a Game Wouldn't it seven or eight times a game and I'm just watching thinking oh it's my oh it's not my oh oh this is horrible it is horrible but what a player yeah he was brilliant I like all always say like I think there's nobody that I've seen live um probably bar the obvious like Messi that's got a better first touch but in the Premier League there's nobody that's got a better first touch than him like the ball could be coming from 50 60 yard and he he knows exactly where he's going to put that first touch like it might be back across his body onto his left foot it might be pass the defender first time it might be stop it dead but he can just do anything with it and I think that's what it that set him up then because he was so tricky like as soon as he did what he wanted with that first touch he just got the defender on the back foot straight away and then he could just do whatever like whatever he wanted with the the ball like it was in his courau um but he was he just loved football like he loved football he was like a big kid wasn't he I think that's that's for any of the young like kids listening I think that bit there what Marx just said about that first he knows what he wants to do with that first touch so there's so many players nowaday that when the balls come into them they haven't even scanned behind them they haven't got they haven't got a clue what's going around them they just know they want to take a good touch but that's it a good touch not into space not into there not checking it back not into that that's exact what RI MZ would do he had a picture a clear picture of exactly what he was going to do when that ball was coming to him so if he's going to flick it over somebody into the space so that he's already on the move when he's doing it as well that was a bit there that like you say Defenders must have just been thinking up for God it was the long balls as well like doing it from short range but it was when the ball was played long to him it's that touch wasn't it that it' just just position it perfectly to then go past his man or do whatever he wanted to do he scored a goal against Chelsea at the king power and I've I was on the left hand side and I've hit a cross over and I've like put Snow on it it's gone so high it was terrible ball like and it's gone right over the back but he was at the back post and he just bought it down shim it a few times and then just whipped it in the far cor he made it look like unbelievable like like I'll take the assist thanks very for he's got that he's got that inside of the foot whip that goes 100 mph like it's pure like grind strength aductor or aductor like the inside of the whip James Madison's got it as well James Madison's got exact same thing right they wrap this ball with the inside of the foot and I'm thinking that's gone as just as fast as if you were to lace it how on Earth do they do that madis has got it with both feet mad is incredible doing it is like his left foot's like incredible I remember him taking a shot against people once right matters and he's done that exactly that he's opened up and he's whipped it and I've read it and I know where exactly where it's going and as I'm moving there I've actually to just go oh [ __ ] and like cuz it's got there quick than I thought it would I thought there's no way on this Earth you can get that much power from an inside of the foot shot there's no way on this Earth there was uh back on to rag quickly um him and and goo they were really close like they were like best mates I think they lived together for a period as well but after training they would we had a little like a small area in the gym where there was like a couple of little goals there and they'd like make a little like a really really small pitch and they just do one-on ones against each of us so you've got Angolo who's like of the best defensively like midfielders in the league you got Riad who's one of the best one-on-one attackers in the league and they was just going up against each other they do it for like half an hour 45 minutes full on sweat on but full on sweat on but it was like dead even like sometimes R had to produce a bit of magic to get past him sometimes and go just go no no no chance but then started Gathering crowds a little bit like Lads Lads were staying behind after training just to watch it like because it was that good oh that's class thanks everybody for watching we hope you enjoyed this clip of the fos cast if you would like to watch the full episode it is now available exclusively on Spotify for free [Music]
