instant tubasa feels grateful to have had a familiar friend at the start of her high school life after class subasa walks towards the section where the school displays the trophies and awards won from different competitions she sees the array of trophies for the school's Brass Band especially the one that showcases the Gold Award she exclaims how cool the display is and she gets surprised when another student exclaims the same it's dauki and he's looking at the trophies garnered by the school's baseball team the two of them recognize each other from the same class they have both dreamed of attending shirado high school but for different reasons for dauki he's always been a fan of baseball when he was young he watched the televised game of the school during the Nationals it was considered legendary as the baseball team made an epic comeback in the last round this is what ignited DA's dream to become a part of the school's baseball team and experience the same inspiration coincidentally subasa also watched the same game to her The Shining trumpets as they made music to support the team are what kindled her dream to do the same dauk turns to her and makes a promise to enter the Nationals he asks subasa to cheer for him as a member of The Brass Band When It Happens subasa says yes as dauk walks away she realizes he's the first one to believe in her and she's grateful for it but dreams are not so easily achieved tubasa has never played the trumpet let alone another instrument in her life she wants to know what it's like so she attends the very first practice of the band for the school year she meets Hitomi the band Captain who reminds her to fill out the application form and submit it to the adviser and speak speaking of the adviser M Yoko sugimura walks past her brisk and serious interactions for the first time tubasa Witnesses how great the band is and how Grand their sound is as they follow M sugiura's conduct she's a meticulous adviser who points out what the trumpet group needs to improve then the teacher turns to tubasa and asks her what she's doing there tubasa has to make her voice audible just so she can express her intent to join the band later miss sugimura asks her to inflate a balloon subasa tries but she fails the teacher tells her that when she manages to inflate that's when she can apply on her way home she sees dauki training to be the team's catcher the captain is shouting at him to fix his posture or else he won't be able to catch the ball subasa understands that she made a promise to him to cheer him on and so she must work hard too to fulfill it after practicing hard she finally shows miss sugiura that she can inflate the balloon with that the teacher allows her to join the band himari is happy to hear the news dauk over here the girls and tells them the promise he and subasa made for each other himari gives her friend a knowing look but then someone calls dauk another one of their classmates Yushi tells the girls that usui the older boy who called dauk over is the baseball team's Captain he knows dai's potential and has recommended him to join the team meanwhile tubasa meets the other firste students who have also joined the band Hitomi says they join through recommendations when she asks tubasa why she joined despite not knowing how to play the trumpet tubasa say says it's because she wants to cheer for the baseball team the others look at each other wondering how naive this freshman is Hitomi tells her that she needs to train and assigns Yuka another senior student to train her it's not easy to train as subasa needs to know the right mouth shape to blow wind into the instrument the valves and slide she needs to manipulate to create a sound and other she plays it subasa is grateful to know that mizushima has finally acknowledged her efforts eventually the band needs to present their progress during the school Festival they have to play a piece as part of the school's concert subasa is so nervous this is her first Major Performance as part of the trumpet group she's so afraid to fail and to fail the band so she decided tries to pretend to play the trumpet but her instrument never makes a sound during the performance Miss sugiura notices this after the event himari and her parents approach her they are very proud of how far she's come this makes her feel guilty and uncomfortable later mizushima confronts her as he has also realized what she's done he's disappointed in her and asks whether she was really truthful about doing her best she Kido are enjoying their snacks then she pushes subasa toward dauk and then takes keto away who has no idea what's happening at first tubasa and dauk are speechless when they look at each other they suddenly feel awkward dauk suggests going to the shrine tubasa agrees there they write their wishes on her card tubasa writes her wish to compete in the fuman hall it's the National brass band competition equivalent to koshian or the national baseball tournament for the High School Division she's a bit shy knowing she's Aiming High despite being a novice dauki thinks it's great and gives her more encouragement when subasa asks what he wrote in his card dauki says it's about their team she tries to grab his card but ends up accident entally hugging him causing another awkward silence between them from the distance himari is rejoicing at her successful matchmaking while keto only realizes what's happening in the next scene we see tubasa class shouting for Joy upon learning that the baseball team has advanced to the Regionals however they don't know that usui got injured during the game the team is uncertain what will happen in their next play on her way home tubasa incidentally meets her senior Yuka who is coming out of a clinic initially she hides her bandaged wrist but then she proceeds to tell tubasa that she has undergone surgery for her tendinitis she makes tubasa promise never to tell anyone in the band about her condition during the Regionals the entire batch of freshman students are present in the stands to support their team with mizushima lead the brass band plays their piece to motivate the team the game is intense with both teams still scoreless even during the ninth inning in the second half shirado plays the defense they need to prevent the opponent from Gaining a score however dauk makes a mistake and it allows the opponent to complete a run thus earning them a point the shirato baseball team lost the Regionals and it's the third time they won't enter the koshian from the stands subasa can see how desperate dauk is she knows that he will blame himself for that regretful mistake he has encouraged her to stand tall in the face of expresses her heartfelt emotions she tells Yuka that she inspired her to work hard even though she's an amateur she has had fun despite the challenges because of yuka's guidance her absence will definitely impact the band's performance still Yuka tells them to leave to everyone's surprise Hitomi arrives she also tries her best to tell Yuka that everyone needs her they all find out that Hitomi and Yuka have made a promise to each other to make it to fuman Hall together she reiterates that they want her to go with them but Yuka is hurting and doesn't want to talk to them yuka's mother is touched by how many friends think about her daughter's situation eventually the band members walk out of the building Hitomi declares that they'll take the gold so they can bring Yuka back and perform in fuman Hall at last it's the day of the competition subasa won't join but she'll be part of the audience to give support to their surprise Yuka arrives she has finally come to her senses she tells Hitomi she'll be watching from the audience while waiting for their peers Yuka apologizes to tubasa for what she said to her before she realizes it's unfair for tubasa to be accused of such tubasa is understanding as always and forgives her senior she tells Yuka she'll work hard to be a regular member because she also wants to be on stage the shirat High School Brass Band gives its best during its 10-minute performance Unfortunately they fall short as they only get the silver award everyone is crying as Miss sugimura gives them a message whoever the judge is and no matter how many times they perform the results of that night will be the same but they should know they've performed well and they should be proud of it Hitomi apologizes to Yuka for failing to keep their promise but Yuka says no apology is needed it's enough for her to know that she's valued by the band and with that the two friends reconcile both tubasa and dauki have experienced their fair share of triumphs and failures first gold they symbolize the solidarity that shirato is proud of M sugimura is confident that with the correct arrangement of the two pieces they can win the gold this puts a lot of pressure on mizushima as this is his final shot to perform at fuma hall tubasa now a close friend of his shares the sentiment she wonders why the teacher said those things with their peace already determined the
