on a sale 97 on the ticket hi Rick hey Doug how you doing thanks for taking the call man sure uh Rick you guys are on point here on something we've had some push back on Aaron Glenn over over the years since he's been with the Lions and what I mean by that is you know play of the secondary as a coach and this was one of the issues of a position guy going to De coordinator Aaron was a good DB in the league okay one of the your job as of coach is to make players better okay if you subscribe to you either get better or you get worse now making any excuses for people that might be drafted this year and we might not be where we want as a corner Etc Aaron's job is to make players better in the secondary okay I mean when he was a position coach okay that and somebody needs to point I'm just talking about asking one more question okay how come the players aren't improving all the coaches want the best corners so they can throw them out there okay and so we won a game how about taking the second corner and coaching him up so he gets better and you win well he can't I would say this one thing he can't control is injuries and last year the secondary were decimated by injuries and the year prior to that they had some injuries as well so guys that got into play are you saying that guys like Jerry Jacobs didn't get better uh Gator that's a good point man no that's a good point brother I'm just saying that you know to be when when Kurt Cousins goes without two starting linemen for 350 yards and a half against you there's an issue and people seem reluctant to talk about the secondary play of the lion I don't think anybody here is reluctant to talk about the secondary lions and it was the number one thing that they needed to address in the offseason and I feel like they definitely addressed it now if you want to turn this into an Aaron Glenn thing I get it and I think I think Doug and we touched on this a couple days ago I think this is a very very important year for Aaron Glenn with the Detroit Lions because they have given him every resource to improve that defense particularly in the secondary maybe not people may think that they needed to add another defensive end here whatever but the secondary I mean they've spent draft Cho the first two draft picks are are guys they went out in free agency and got a guy they uh resigned their own guy and they traded for a guy so the that those those resources are there for this secondary to be better and that is on Aaron Glenn I would agree with that Gator I like to take man that's all I wanted to clarify brother appreciate it and and Aaron was good DB in the league he should be I mean guys should be improving so hopefully gets it done and and we do go to the Super Bowl so thanks for taking the call appreciate the phone call I mean look F will improve the yeah I mean he's part of the secretary sure Kirby Joseph last year if you said going into the season that you're G to be playing in the NFC title game and starting at one of your cornerback spots yeah was going to be kindall vildor I with with all respect do and I I mean you can only do so much as a position coach there is no reluctance here and I don't think there's ever been any reluctance to talk about the secondary um vildor basically wasn't active until the beginning of November last year he was a practice squad player and he if I recall correctly no that's not true my bad that's not true it was a year before he was released by The he no he's released how about this he was with the Eagles up until the beginning of November and the lion signed at the practice squad a player that was on the E with the Eagles released on the street started the NFC title game so you know how much of that's on Aaron Glenn I don't know but when Aaron Glenn came up when we brought up Aaron Glenn we brought up yesterday I think it was yesterday it was this week what are some of the potentially unforeseen problems that could befall this team one of the things was it's possible Aaron Glenn's a problem we don't think so I don't think so I I really like Aaron Glenn I don't think it's a it's a big year for Aaron Glenn he's been given more material to work with yeah I don't I don't think that's the case we'll find out if it is and like I said this is a big year but I think they've been trying to figure things out the secondary since the staff was put together keep in mind this they're on their third cornerbacks coach in four years M so they've always T they've always tinkered with that and they've tinkered with Personnel because guys have gotten hurt and they've brought guys in on one-year deals and had not a whole lot of success with bringing these guys in and the one guy they signed to a deal had his issue in the off season and they let him go and and cam Sutton so now they've got a ton of draft capital put into the secondary you got the first two picks this year were Corners you got Brian Branch from last year you know they've used draft picks like melan fono and Kirby Joseph uh in in the secondary as well for for the guys at the safety position so that's a lot of guys that you're trying to homow let alone the ones you're bringing in from free agency in trade but I you know I'm Aaron Glenn gets plenty plenty of people questioning him I think I don't know that's a correct characterization when he said people are reluctant to about it he does but I think maybe some people wonder why he get so much praise why is this guy being interviewed for head coaching jobs when you know the the secondary which should be his expertise doesn't look all that good for this team well you do a deeper dive and take a look at the situation and and see what's there that being said is this a make or break year for Aaron Glenn it feels pretty big I don't know if it's make or break but it there'll be if if the defense isn't if the defense is still a big problem not a problem but a big problem I think it will be this could be a lot of heat will come his way in justifiably so this could be a bold ass prediction but what if Aaron Glenn is if I could say Aaron Glenn not being on his team next year for one of two reasons either the secondary was good and he gets a head coaching gig or they weren't good and the Lions move on right I mean it's the extremes yep I think they'd have to be bad for him to get fired I agree you know what I mean like I think they can be good and average and he'll still be here I think this is a no excuse here for Aaron Glenn I think that they they have brought in the players the Personnel on that side of the ball to play their type of Defense they've always been kind of saying maybe you know they kind of shied away from what they really wanted to do but now they got their guys and they only need to be really they really only need to be average to above average right because the offense is is that Elite they were 30 minutes away from the Super Bowl you mentioned V door was back there a football off his face Y and Brandon auk made an incredible play and now then the lions are going home so if they if Aaron Glen gets his defense just to be average I think they're you know they'll be he'll be fine the team will be fine but if they're below average yeah then we have a problem [Music]
